Note: Must use only use this method for motors with varnish that cannot be removed by isopropyl alcohol or enamel coated windings. Use a low percentage isopropyl alcohol so you minimize the risk of shorting out the motors.
Tip: Apply a drop of ball bearing oil to re lubricate the motors after the lubricant has been stripped away due to the alcohol.

I really think having the camera closer would keep me engaged a little more. I cant really see what youre doing but great video and info nonetheless!

Not sure if you want to use isopropyl alcohol on the motor windings. They're coated, and alcohol is a solvent. Might soften that coating and take it off while brushing. Also, you don't want to get it into your bearings since these are lubricated, and the alcohol might take that off too. Better just use water.

You make some great points. I should have clarified to only use isopropyl alcohol on enamel coated motor windings. Isopropyl alcohol does not dissolve enamel but if they are really cheap motors, they may be coated in varnish which can be dissolved with isopropyl alcohol. As for the motor lubrication, I haven't experienced any issue with motors overheating as a result of too much friction. It may be a good idea though to re lubricate after cleaning as bearing tolerances can differ from motor to motor and brand to brand. More tolerance would increase vibration and yes, potentially damage the motor. I'll include an updated description to account for these tips. Thanks for the comment!!

@@Quadmonium Thanks for the reply and education! I did not know all of this.

Could i also emerge the whole drone under warm water and clean it this way and let it dry for a week? (+ with the dji o3 unit on it)

I would highly discourage it. Especially with small commercial parts like the DJI module, water can get trapped and remain even after a long drying period. I would still use the method I described in the video. It takes less time and is safer for your electronics.

Got the king kong capacitor on that rig

I thought it might help with the horizontal bars I occasionally get in my video feed. That and filter out some of the voltage spikes that cause the components to act up and wear out. That was the theory at least XD.

After a day of flying, I screw the motors of the frame so they are so I can lift them off the frame to keep them out of the bath. then I submerge the rest of the quad in isopropyl alcohol for about one hour. after that i blow the entire quad with my air compressor. screw the motors back on the quad and that's it. takes about 2 minutes of labor in total to clean the entire quad!

I find that the whole quad rarely needs cleaning. So my focus is on the motors which always need to be clean for the best performance. Seems like a great method for cleaning the whole quad though

Hi, I need to clean my fpv drone but I can't find isopropyl alcohol is it ok if I use technical alcohol????? Would I get the same results?
@Quadmonium
@Quadmonium Год назад
Are you referring to technical grade / technical use alcohol? I have never heard of technical alcohol.
@honzabelada4808
@honzabelada4808 Год назад
It is like 93% ethanol and few % of water
@Quadmonium
@Quadmonium Год назад
@@honzabelada4808 I would be hesitant to use that. It may leave a residue and it's not as strong of a solvent from what I can tell. Your research may say otherwise, and in that case I would trust your own judgement. It may work well for you but I have never used it so I can't advise about it.

Can I use just water to clean the bell? And use it after drying completely?
@Quadmonium
@Quadmonium 2 года назад
Yes you can. I find that using alcohol cuts through the dirt and grime better though.

The motors themselves should not be lubricated. This is a brushless motor, the motor cap and magnets do not touch at all. the only thing that would need any lubrication is the small bearing in the bottom of the motor that connects to the shaft. A light coating of wd40 should do the trick but stay away from heavily viscous lubricants. That will increase resistance of the motor and lead to friction.
