If your refrigerator is more than ten years old, check your water tank in the refrigerator side that holds the cold water. You may find it has crap in it. If so save yourself some time and replace the tank and all water lines. All of this is much easier than it sounds. I wasted a lot of time flushing my refrigerator. But if you can identify the source maybe a good flush is all you need.

That’s a great option too, thankfully our fridge wasn’t that old. So we didn’t have to go that far.

I tried for about a year to do that. Couldn’t find directions online. Repair men and appliance salesmen looked at me like I was crazy for expecting to be able to do such a thing. I even tried calling the company that made my fridge and all they would do was give me the number to who I had already talked to. … I finally gave up and got a new fridge this week.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Some other places said to pour the vinegar into the disconnected water line, but mine kept spitting the water back out. The vinger bottle elevation trick worked beautifully! And thank you also for reminding us to flush the line with water before replacing the filter if we didn't have the plug!

@@AB-th4xk It could be calcium carbonate. A natural mineral that's usually dissolved in tap water, but becomes visible as tiny particles when water freezes. This is more likely to happen in areas with hard or well water. Calcium carbonate is not toxic and is usually beneficial.

Worked for me. The elevation did the trick. I'm doing a bleach water flush 1st followed with a couple more with water and vinegar.

If you do it now pull the filter and put the plug/stopper in its place. Otherwise you’ll ruin your new filter. Thanks for watching!!

Our old refrigerator stopped dispensing water so I started watching vids..we have we'll water too. So for the heck of it, I took a Hammer and tapped on the water line and on the pipe where the shut-off is and wahlah! The water is flowing again. I think the sediment clogged in spots. I love easy fixes.

Also cycle icemaker fill. Depending on unit. Can go into diagnostics or cycle from jumping icemaker motor Would need service tech sheet. Usually under kick panel if not removed.

Are you using straight vinegar or is it diluted with water in the jug?

Hi. I placed the water line directly into Vinegar bottle just like you showed and when a press the water dispenser so water can come nothing happens. I don’t have any liquid coming out of water dispenser. I have whirlpoool ed5vhexvo02. Please help if possible.

Sometimes it takes pressure to force the vinegar through the line. This all depends on the type of refrigerator you have, I tried searching online but couldn’t find munch info about that model. Sorry!

Thanks for the video. I changed the filter and it worked as usual for 2 weeks. Then all of a sudden, its dispensing really really slow. Took the filter out and tried it again, same...so I know its not the filter at least. I do have a well so wondering if i have some crud in the line and this would clean it and fix the problem.

How can I do this if the valve is underneath the sink and the water line is lead through a few cabinets? I get the concept of the elevation with the vinegar bottle, but I wouldn't be able to do that because most of the line is behind the cabinet.

I think you would need a pump sprayer to pressurize the vinegar to make it from there to the fridge.

Thanks for watching. Yes, don’t put the new filter in until after you flush the line. Either keep the old filter in or put the stopper/plug in the filters place until after the flush and rinse. Then install the new filter and enjoy.

What would happen if I do this without a filter or plug in? It was making noise and the water barely came out with the previous filter after a pipe burst and the plumber came out to fix it. I ran the water without a filter and I don't have a plug to see if the noise would stop. It did and the water came out like normal

Different refrigerator models have different builds. So, whether or not they can function without a filter depends on the specifics mentioned in the user manual. In some refrigerators, you can remove the filter and bypass the pipeline connected to the dispenser. In others, there is a ‘bypass plug’ to switch on to use the fridge without the filter. Since the water came out like normal I’d say you’re good to go with the cleaning of your line. Let me know how it works out for you.

Tried doing this and it didn’t work for me, the vinegar wouldn’t flush through the system. We have a much different tube on the back it seemed to be more of a pressurized hose than the more standard tube that you had, any suggestions? (We have a older Kenmore fridge)

Not sure about your specific fridge, the only thing I could think of is a big syringe to pull vinegar in to and then force it in to your line? Hopefully that helps!

I rigged up a 1 gallon garden sprayer line and connected it to the refrigerator water input. Pumped sprayer while my wife operated the water dispenser on the front of the refrigerator.

I have oily residue coming out, only in the fridge line. I did the vinegar flush as you showed, left it in there about 1.5 hours while flushing it w vinegar from time to time. Still getting oily residue after flushing with water. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

Bought the fridge in 2020, only just last week hooked up the water line, so it's been sitting for a while. But it's a brand new copper line.

I honestly don’t have a clue why you’d be getting an oily residue from your water line, first I thought it could be something left in the line from the manufacturer, but a good flush should have taken care of the issues. Maybe try to google, check Reddit, or ask on some plumbing Facebook groups and see if they can find the source of your issues. Sorry I wasn’t much help.

If it’s clogged you can try letting the vinegar soak for a while or you will need to pull the hose and apply some pressure to force the clog free.

I have a urine smells in my water after changing out my OEM GE water filter. Ran 5 gallons and smells still there. Hopefully this will help. Anyone else have this issue?

Never ran across this, maybe try a new filter. Be sure to not run vinegar through your filter though.

Thanks for watching! Some refrigerators need the pressure, but most can pull the vinegar through by the vacuum the water creates. That’s why we took the vinegar to the top of the fridge.
