hello! i got my new kitten when she was 2 months old and started training her quite early. shes now 4 months old and knows many tricks thanks to your helpful videos! and if you were wondering the tricks i’ve taught her are: sit pretty, high five, finger targeting, spin, sit, jump on shoulder. and ive recently starting leash training her, which is going quite well! your videos have really helped me train my new kitten!
@@apple_milk if you mean how, this is a video from albert showing you how to shoulder train your cat ---> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W5GSrT-bEGk.html
Does training work better when we train from young ? My cats are 9 months old and usually not as calm as yours ..they always move fast , so am not sure if I can train them. Please suggest any tips.
My kitten does well during training sessions, but it's VERY hard to get his attention to give commands when he's doing his cat-thing in the house (mainly getting off of things and not tackling his senior sister.) Any tips for utilizing training in a natural environment?
Very helpful is always!! My kitty is getting smarter every day and follows my finger, jumps on my shoulder (although staying on there is a bit difficult for him) and is more confident walking outside on a leash! Thanks!
Hello, I have a 6 month old kitty who I got last week. She's diong well with socialising and she seems quite comfortable with me already which I did not expect so soon, but it seems she is too distracted to train and I do not know what to do. I've started with fingertargeting and sometimes she comes, but most of the time she's just too distracted with everything...
I ADOPTED A CAT 2 MONTGS AGO I HAVE TRAINED HER SOMETHING I WANT TO ASK DOES IT IS COMPULSORY TO BUY A CLICKER AND WHAT OTHER THING I SHOULD BUY AND LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ❤
what treats to use?? I have tried several with my orange kitty and he only responds to the clicker if he is in the mood and does not seem to give a **** about any treats I have tried. (And I have tried several)
Hello Albert & Mia, this is so awesome! I already have my clicker charged😁. Jack (almost 4 months old) is curious but only interested in treats and not in kibbles…yet😁. Do you eventually take out the clicker and treat for the commands or do you always reward? Thanks! Love your vids! Anne
Albert, your love and kindness for your cat is truly inspiring to watch. I enjoy watching you interact with Mia to learn training techniques but it’s a pleasure seeing your love for her. Your heart is full! ❤
You are just amazing tutor. Keep going! Love from India 🇮🇳. BTW I am 12 years old and already watched all your videos and I wanna train my 3 months kitten named 'Oreo' she is a female cat 🐈 😻 🐈⬛!
Thank you! Your channel nudged me to get a harness and leash, now my cat is really enjoying outside!! (slowly in the backyard). She knows sit and stay, I want to use the clicker so we can eventually do more, should I start incorporating the clicker with sit and stay to get her used to it?
After you charge the clicker you can start teaching other tricks. I only use the clicker for teaching, then “good girl” outside training sessions. She now understands both but the precision of the clicker helps with the trainings.
Getting a 12 week old female tomorrow. Looking forward to start training. First cat in 50 years. Anxious, nervous, and not sure what to do first. I'm glad I found your channel. Keep them coming. Thanks, & Blessings, :)
Hello there, I’m a new Sphinx kitten mom and I found your videos now.. I love how outgoing you are with your Bengal. I’m the same with mine. She is 13 weeks old, already very social with friends, kids, and dogs. I’ve been taking her everywhere since I got her. I just ordered the clicker training kit and I’m looking forward to teach her. Thank you for all the teaching videos! ❤️😃 we will let you know how it goes.
I love your method of clicker training, but I how two big problems with my wonderful cat, Arlo. He is 9 months old and I cannot get him to stop jumping onto the dining table. He has a cat rree right across from the table and many other surfaces that he is free to be on. I don't want him on the table, particularly when I am eating. I wind up putting him in his carrier. Also, I would like to keep him from running out the front door of my apartment when I open it. Thank you for your help. Ellen
The best way to stop unwanted behavior is divided in 3 parts: - Understand the WHY - Offer an ALTERNATIVE - REWARD for using the alternative I explain this system, how to teach the word no and how to stop your cat from jumpin on counters or door dashing in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-73Rn963gGdQ.html If you are more of a reader, take a look at this blog post: www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/correcting-cat-behavior/teaching-no-to-your-cat-to-stopping-unwanted-behaviors
Thanks for this video. We are getting 2 Siamese kittens at 3 months soon. A boy and girl from same litter who have bonded. How do you train them, separately or together? And when should you start? Thanks from Australia!
I am choosing to train my cat on a potty tray instead of a litter box. I know cats care about cleanliness and it makes sense to me they will prefer this over a box full of *hit. I have some litter I will put on top of the grate with a training pad under the grate in the tray and also to spray it with cat pheromone. What else would you do to help make the transition? Thank you
My kitten fluffy is 5 weeks old i feel like it's a lot of time wating till she's 12 weeks but that's ok , I'm so excited for when she grows up and i take her on trips and teach her tricks
I was waiting for this video whole RU-vid channel but I didn't expect bro you did a video about this topic. I am going to get a Persian cat🐱🐈. And what treats do you use bro to train Mia❤. Love from 🇮🇳. When I showed your videos to my mom she said your looking like tollywood hero "Ram Charan" your same like him bro.
Ram Charan? That's too good to be true! Thanks for the love! I use regular kibble, it's less caloric and equally powerful if you ar enot free feeding your cat! :)
@@OutdoorBengal hello albert i just had to say, hills is not a good pet food brand.they use bad ingredients. i know it says recommended by vets but lots of companies pay vets to recommend them and so does hills. a brand i recommend would be orijen! they use good ingredients and my cat loves it! i hope you find a better cat food brand that mia will love! ❤️❤️
Our cats we have are up in age but we have a snow shoe Siamese we found him under our tent way back in 2007 shortly after one of ours passed, to this day I wonder where Jasper came from I had thought someone I knew put him there but I really don't know. Anyway he is the smartest cat we've had he knows how to open the cabinet doors we have one cabinet locked because him and his boys got into that cabinet while we were gone and they had catnip all over the floor they chewed threw it haha. He also puts his paws on my shoulders and loves on me, he will reach for me when I'm getting ready to go somewhere. But this video is helpful with kittens maybe in the future I can try these tricks.
Awww! That’s awesome! I’m glad you found value on it even though you are a seasoned cat parent! Also, did you know that it’s never late to start training your cats?
@@OutdoorBengal yes your right it's never late peaches likes his I call it toy because when I say where's your toy he'll just look at me, he definitely knows what it is then I'll get the laser and he loves playing with that. Jasper and Oreo our tuxedo cat don't like the toy only peaches but cats are extremely smart and funny too.
hola Albert, I'm starting today with the clicker training, I'm super excited! :) I have 2 kittens (sisters) that are 4 months old. My only question is: would you recommend to do the training "isolating" myself in a room and train one cat at a time? Thanks for you answer! :)
There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together: 1) Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings) 2) Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time) The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. You can lock yourself with the cat you are training instead of the cat that it's not trained. That makes the experience for the cat that's alone nicer.
i’m worried about the “charging” of the clicker of 10 mins when you click and give a treat will make my kitten sick, giving treats straight for 10 mins will be too many treats right?
There are 3 ways to make that less calorie-heavy: 1) Break the treats into small pieces 2) You can throw the treats away, to make the treat eating more sparse 3) Try to use healthy treats, like Feastfuls amzn.to/3ZlBzTd But in any case treats should be more than 10% of their daily calorie intake.
It’s a way to call for attention. Do not bend :) if she is trying to get you to play and you do it when she bites, you are reinforcing a bad behavior. Same if she does it asking for food! Hope this helps!
How can we teach them not to go in the sink or to get off the sink? Or not to jump on the kitchen table, is there a way to make that table something they do not have to deal with or touch? Thank you

Hey Albert! I just got three 3 month old kittens and I really want to train them like Mia. I would like to know if she chases birds and other animals. I have a cockatiel at home and I was hoping to teach them not to hunt her. If you could help me it would be awesome 🤩
I started training Mia when she was 12weeks old. I started with some easy tricks like come when called and finger targetting and got to more complex tricks once she was comfortable with those. You can find more about it in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YxxCqtJ93zU.html
Just had y kitten 3 weeks and he is now 15 weeks, so need to start this training now. Is the clicker you use the same as the dog clickers or do I need to buy a specific one for cats xxx
Hello! Have you tried high-value cat treats? That's what I feed Mia she goes crazy! amzn.to/3tjrVT9 Also, I learned that when a cat is not food-motivated, it's very easy to narrow down why! I wrote a short article to help you find out: www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/clicker-training-cats/my-cat-doesnt-like-treats-train-a-cat-thats-not-food-motivated
Really love your videos. I have already taught my kitty finger targeting in 3 days with help of your videos. One suggestion: Can you please do a video on 'Come Here' command next? Thanks
hello! I use either kibble from Hill's Science or Freeze dried chicken, depending on how hard the tricks are. Find all the products we love here: www.outdoorbengal.com/pages/product-reviews
i'd like to teach my cat its name and let him come when i call. he's 5 months old. what you didn't mention specifically is at what point do you stop using the clicker, and at what point do you stop giving treats?
You should continue giving treats every now and then. It's called intermitent reinforcement. that keeps the cat motivated to listen. They don't listen because of the treats, they listen for the expectation of the treat. Make sure the expectation stays strong.
Hi Albert! I have a 14 weeks old Bengal and he is super distracted as soon as he sees a squishy toy! I was wondering what treat / kibble do you use. I feed my pure raw food, so the treats I’m currently using for clicker training he’s not too bothered / excited about the treats I’m using.
Yes, definitely normal. Particularly if you are feeding them raw (Ideal), they will pay less attention to dry stuff. I use freeze dried chicken amzn.to/3P5d054 Also, consider watching this video, it might give you some additional tips: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SSRXzcNuLzk.html
I'd also say you can use a squishy toy! My babe is pretty food motivated, but sometimes he wants pets and attention instead, and sometimes he wants a quick play session. I've done ABA therapy with kiddos, and the most important thing is to use what motivates them, and that can be consistent, or change. Preference checks are great. If kitty isnt interested in treats, put out a couple toys and see if he goes for one. That'll be your motivator for the session. (I know training cats is a bit different, but it all still focuses on motivation and conditioning.)
i just messaged you on Wednesday because I just adopted a nearly 2 months old kitten (I don't know if you've seen it) I ask when should I start to train her. But thank you for this video.
I think you did amongst others asking the same inspired this video. I hope it provides guidance to those seeking to start clicker training their cats and not knowing how or when! I hope it helped!
I feed her raw treats, my cat Mia likes freezed dried chicken a lot: amzn.to/3FviIYa Try reading this article, I cover the topic in depth! www.outdoorbengal.com/blogs/clicker-training-cats/my-cat-doesnt-like-treats-train-a-cat-thats-not-food-motivated
There’s one video talking about clicker training and I briefly talk about free feeding but there’s no video talking specifically about food … it’s a good idea tho
hello! i am Beth from Venice (italy) , everything happened by chance, I was looking for two cats after the death of my two beloved cats, and through a shelter I was offered two Bengals, I knew nothing about their particularities, I jumped in, once I met them I understood how much effort they required. They were the ones who taught me how to behave, but now I would like to introduce them to training also because they need constant stimulation and this strengthens our bond. One of my cat goes out alone,I play with them for a long time, yet nothing satisfies Langos' curiosity (Only one is allowed to go out freely, luckily the other is a gentle guy and is satisfied with little) I don't know if I did it right. I tried to give him my best but he was never satisfied. I have a huge garden, a tree house,a room at home fully equipped just for them, I take him out on a leash. he always runs away and always comes back but I'm always anxious and worried.
Oh my goodness she is so beautiful. Thank you for a great video. Am going to watch them all. Have a 11 weeks old kitten (bengal) that I want to train. Have started with treats and will get the clicker as well. If you have any tips on keeping your cat safe when they venture outdoors by themselves (I live in a house in the country side in the UK) that would be appreciated. Either way I'm already trying to get her comfortable with the harness as in a few weeks we'll be driving 500miles to Cornwall. Got a comfy car seat for her that will keep her secure, but so far being in the car is stressful for her. She was shaking by the time we got home the other day when we did a short journey to acclimatize her, poor thing. But she is super inquisitive and very intelligent and very very adorable. When we got home I tried to comfort her, stroking her, cuddling her, giving her treats...reinforcement training. Fingers crossed we'll make the car journey without incident.
Don't reward the behavior, let them try but never let the treat go until they stop trying to bite, then click and reward. They'll quickly learn that biting does not get what they want. Also, if you are looking to continue progressing, consider checking our training cards game: amzn.to/47oBlfh
I just got a 7 month old Bengal kitten but he hates dry treats. He know how to target stick but he doesn’t know his name yet. I’m kind of lost as to what clicker tricks I can do because he only likes Wet treats and I can’t throw them down like dry treats.
Hi I have a question. For you, or for anyone who's done this. Should charging the clicker be its own session or should I teach a trick in the first session after the clicker is charged?
Hi! I adopted 2 kittens and it worked better for me to train individually as it will help with less distractions and not getting trampled over for treats! Hope all goes well.
I have a little kitten who’s only nine weeks old and I’ve taught her finger targeting thanks to your other video! I now understand she may be a little young so I’ll keep socializing her while maintaining finger tracking so she doesn’t get overwhelmed. Thanks for all you do!
As long as you see your cat remembers, no need to charge the clicker per se. The training itself will do the job. If you spend a long time without training, then yes, charge for a bit, then train!
hello albert! ive been trying to charge my clicker but it hasnt been working as my cat isnt responsive to the sound...can u give me some tips and tricks or the mistakes that i might make that could hinder my progress?
Hey! To charge the clicker you just need to click and reward consistently for several days. How long have you been charging the clicker for? How are you doing it?
Yes, it's one of the first ones... I think I'll have to reinforce it! :) I use regular kibble, from Hills. All the products we use and love are available in this page: www.amazon.com/shop/outdoorbengal
Great question! If you have more than one cat, there are several things you can do: - Train them different tricks at a time. - Try to have two clickers with different sounds as well. A pen does a click different. That might work. If that doesn’t work, you can do it in separate rooms
I'm very interested in what treats are best to use. I want to only use high quality and make sure that he can have enough for training, without downsides for having so many treats
What I do is use regular Kibble. It is less caloric and if you are not free feeding them, has the same perceived value with half the calories. You can find the products we use and love in this link: www.amazon.com/shop/outdoorbengal
A big question.....for me at least....what treats do you use for kittens (under 1 years). Thank you. Can you also share PP, wenmo, whatever you have, for donation. Ty
Hello Patrick, thank you so much for the love. If they are over 5months, you can use freezed dried chicken or kibble. Less than 5months, kitten kibble only or liquid treats! Hope this helps! Regarding the donation, I have a patreon account, are you familiar with it? Patreons get access to a facebook group where we all share experiences and early access to the videos :) www.patreon.com/outdoorbengal
podrias hacer tipo un overview de trucos "fundamental", "useful" y "party tricks" que se puede enseñar? seria buen video! aparte seria güay si podrias hacer un video sobre como enseñar tocar un timbre!
We rescued a 4 week old kitten a couple weeks back, she's hitting 7 weeks soon and she's incredibly smart already. I wanted to start charging the clicker with her today but you mentioned to not start till 12 weeks. Can you elaborate?
Until they are 12 weeks there are other priorities for the kitten like playtime, litter training and teaching them to come when called. Clicker training can be mentally demanding and kittens don't have the patience to do so. It can become frustrating for both cat and cat parents. I hope this makes sense!
Hello! I have an 8 month old ragdoll and I have been trying to train her for a few months now (mostly with the leash and harness) but as a student I have struggled with consistency and sometimes I end up free feeding her. I really want to give training another shot as she is still young but I’m having a problem using her kibble as an incentive. She only seems to be motivated by wet food, and even rejects dry treats. Wet food is difficult and messy to use with training, so do you think i should try to transition her completely to dry food before I proceed with training?
It's not about switching the food, it's about finding that treat that will drive them crazy. I have a video talking a bit about it (mostly about how to get to train your cat faster) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SSRXzcNuLzk.html. If your cat is into wet food, try these treats: amzn.to/3gYNHSv
@@OutdoorBengal Thanks! We have to free feed (two cats with food anxiety from different sources), and I was wondering what we were going to do. Apparently, find treats they’ll do anything for. (Well. Other than churu, eh?)
