late to the party, but same thing here. so, i unmounted the drive on the mac, took it to another mac and had the options available when doing the erase-format step. re-plugged the ssd into the other mac. re-did the erase at the MAC OS Extended (Journaled) option was available.
I want to upgrade my old macbook pro 2011 running on High Sierra. Was watching a lot of youtube videos and some people do it the way you did it and other use cloning program like super duper e.t.c. Could you explain whats a difference? I just ordered a new 1T ssd and Sabrent data adapter to do your way. Just don't understand why they use third party program if it's simple to do your way?
I honestly haven't use that software. I think you can also do with Time Machine but they way I do, it is probably the more reliable. It does work, my computer is running faster. Thanks for your comment!
I’ve tried the method as described but it failed to copy after selecting restore. I have an iMac 2017 with Ventura. Superduper worked for me and found it easy to use. I recommend it to anyone.
Very simple process, just that it stuck with the bar almost at the end for more than 1 hour, and okha only had 180GB of data. So the HD was very slow. iMac 2019
