Absolutely the most concise and direct description I've seen as to how to accomplish this. I love my desktop but it's giving me problems so I was considering buying another one until I saw this video and realized how easy it is to use my laptop and get the same big screen that I prefer! I connect my mouse and keyboard to my laptop. It will still work on monitor with laptop lid closed if you do the steps shown in the video.

Don't close the lid with an Alienware or any other laptop that has holes for heat exhausting on the keyboard side of the chassis, otherwise the heat will blow onto your screen and wreck your laptop's screen.
