Dark marble with mica and swirls. What girl wouldn't like walking across a galaxy of stars to be married? Dark blue with silver stars and swirls of colored clouds of newborn galaxies.
Hey Mitch, My basement has a drain in the middle, so the concrete is perfectly smooth, but slopes towards the drain from all sides. Will the epoxy be alright with not perfectly level floor? Thanks. Graeme
This popped up on my recommendations. The wife wants me to seal our 3 car garage. I'm about 1/3 done with the diamond grind. This was a good reminder how to do it right the first time. Thanks for putting this video together.
You could still torch for technique and to remove air if necessary, most if not all the microbubbles incorporated by mixing can be popped with 91% isopropyl. It will take a few misting's waiting 10 min or so between. Torching would work also just not both at the same time!!! Let me know if you have any other questions
Hey Mitch, I have a question. I am considering doing this on my cement floor in the basement. But, does it offer any insulating quality? I am considering doing a layer of spray foam on the floor first, would that work? I live in a colder area of Canada, so this is why I am asking. Also, can you start to provide in the description, the retail cost of the projects? Just an overall cost so a person looking at doing a project like this has a good general idea before going into the details.
The flooring epoxy offers some but not much insulation from cold concrete. I don't think spray foam would be the proper product to do what you're looking to do either. Maybe dense foam but on a floor I worry about denting or damage down the road. The epoxy will help a little though, put a throw rug down that would help a bunch too.
That sort of application is best for our Flake Flooring system: www.stonecoatcountertops.com/diy-flooring-epoxy With metallic marble the colors will run down the vertical!
I’m going to be upfront: I normally love your work, but those colors in that bathroom looks like someone didn’t make it to the toilet in time. Maybe it looks better in person. 🤷🏼♂️
HA! Appreciate your feedback! It does look very pretty and video or pic deff don't do the epoxy justice! Thanks for watching, I have a white/black/silver floor dropping soon, going over wood subflooring
Hey Mitch. Nice job, looks good. Friend of mine, career concrete finisher says there are 3 guarantees with concrete. 1) it will get get hard 2) it will crack 3) nobody will steal it Keep up the good work, Stonecoat rawks!
HAHAHA Nice one, I used something like that in a video once but not the it will get hard line! Thanks for stopping by, do you have a floor project in mind this DIY season?
@@StoneCoatCountertops No projects. Between my real job and side work fixing fiberglass tubs have no time. Sure do like what I have seen of your system, and who knows, I might find an extra bit of time some day. Been subscribed for a number of years and watch every chance I can. Keep up the good work. You are just down the highway from me, might just stop by one day.
Hey mitch, is the polyaspartic top coat not food safe? Seems like it would be great for countertops otherwise so I'm assuming that's why we haven't ever been advised to use it on a counter
Thanks so much! It's in my kids walk in closet! New flash! They got into the curing epoxy 👀 Thank God it was cured enough, I saw cured big foot prints the next day!
Hey Mitch- My bathroom floor is a thin layer of trowelled on cement over 1/2" cement board. It has cracked multiple times. Do you think i could epoxy directly over that or would i be better off stripping everything back down to the [osb] subfloor? Thanks!
If the cement board was installed properly with thin set under you could apply a layer of level quick let fully dry then apply the moisture seal epoxy primer. If the cement board is loose and not installed correctly you'll want to pull it up
Hey Mitch! Do you have the Polyaspartic coat in a smaller size? I have a bathroom project I’m working on and this UV resistant top coat looks like an amazing product for my epoxy bench and trim! Can you help a brother out?
The epoxy flake system is best for outdoor applications, great question. Learn more about both flooring epoxy systems here: www.stonecoatcountertops.com/diy-flooring-epoxy
Great question, I have a short video dropping on this soon. If you have moisture under the plastic, the next step will be to do a Calcium Chloride test: amzn.to/3myjvUK Stone Coat Flooring epoxy made for high emission up to 15pds per 1k. This test will tell you how many pds per 1k the concrete has. Its how much pressure will build up under the coating caused by moisture under the slab. Let me know if you have any further questions
Hey Mitch, we're building new, when's the best time to do this on our basement floor? B4 drywall in basement or after? Also, how well would your epoxy hold up to kitchen floor wear and tear? I'm loving these looks over tile in a kitchen tbh!
Do you think epoxy flooring would be ok from destructive animals? Cat nails, occasional dog pee? Floor had cheap square tiles, now uneven plywood (?) floor.
I’m buying a house and can’t wait to add epoxy floors! You guys are amazing. I’ve found pics but don’t know what colors are in the photo. Help!! Also can you tell me an estimate on an 1104 sq ft?
This is absolutely beautiful. I have a small shower like this. concrete floor in my game room area of my home that I would love to try and do this to my concrete shower floor. Can I use this same kit you’re using.
WOW, I love this, so want to do this to our family room possibly a bedroom. How does this stuff hold up to occasional dog pee? I have two Chihuahua's and an occasional mistake from them
Expansion joints vs contraction joints : Expansion joints separates the slab into separate pieces and includes a filler material ; bituminous fiber, plastic, wood, etc. It’s purpose is to make space for these separate pieces to go when they expand. A contraction joint is tooled or saw cut into fresh or green concrete to control the “guaranteed” cracking caused by contraction.
Hey Mitch, love the content. I'm thinking of doing a back entrance/mud room/laundry room floor that gets absolutely murdered. Any thoughts on the longevity/wear of this stuff?
Very long time, use the non-skid with the UTC or Polyaspartic topcoat for best results. You can always reapply the topcoat in an hour or so of labor years down the road to get the floor to look brand new. The coating will bond very well if prepped properly like in the video
Yes it sure is! I'll be doing a coffee table like this pretty soon. I'm going to put a 1 ounce per sqft layer of Art Coat down then put all my pennies down and let that cure. Then do a couple thin layers to fill in the space between and then over the pennies to make a level top. Let me know if you have any questions! I'd love to help you get a project started!
Still compatible to torch if needed. I've been getting the microbubbles out with 91% isopropyl alcohol. The torch will still work too to help move spray paint veins if you're interested in that look
I think that same mixture would be great on the venue floor as it has a wood/rustic feel.👍 Added bonus, matches coffee spills, although I know they would mop up great!! 😅 Good carpet colors for places that serve red wine or coffee!! 😉 Epoxy cleans better though!! 🤗
Hey Mitch As always I enjoyed the video. I have a garage floor that slopes toward a floor drain and an outdoor concrete patio that slopes away from the house. How concerned should I be about epoxy self leveling itself?
The metallic color coat layer will want to self level to the slopes. It doesn't run fast and is manageable. It can cause the design to flow to the low spots just keep that in mind when designing the marble. purposely steer some of the veins knowing they will slightly move. Pull up the drain masking if possible 2-4 hours after mixing when the material begins to set up. Or use a utility knife and score the perimeter of the tape and peel next morning when still fresh. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Yes you sure can! Metallic Marble Flooring tutorial over wood subflooring coming out very soon! It's even easier than going over concrete - no grinding needed!
This question is not about flooring. Sorry but I wanted to know is it safe to use epoxy as a countertop or A certain type of clearcoat to applied different from the floor
Hey Mitch! I recently purchased the epoxy floor kit about 2 weeks ago with earth blue metallic for my master bathroom (doesn’t say mid coat). Should I purchase the poly top coat and non slip? For floor protection and grip?
Great question, and thanks for your business! That flooring epoxy is still part of our new system. It's now branded as our flooring epoxy midcoat. For best adhesion over concrete, use our Moisture Seal Epoxy Primer rather than the flooring epoxy as a seal coat. Use the black or gray it will look great under metallic flooring. If u use the moisture seal, you'll have extra flooring epoxy since you won't be using some of that for a seal coat. We have either the polyaspartic topcoat or newly formulated ultimate topcoat for floors in both Matte and gloss, goes down easy! Here's a link to the new products: www.stonecoatcountertops.com/diy-flooring-epoxy Use code mix20 to save on the extra supplies
Hey Mitch, I've been mulling over redoing my 5X7 wood bathroom floor with SCC epoxy. To be a little different, I was thinking of the granite look. Which method do you think will yield a better looking more realistic result, the Rust-Olean stone paints or the full coverage flakes?
That's a hard one! The rustoleum stone spray down over a faux paint floor could be an epic floor! The flake is the easiest system to install! Throwing chicken feed - the end! Installing over wood is simple too! No grinding. Fill sub floor seams with floor patch, sand back flat. Paint two coats of undercoat on floor let dry 4 hours Floor is now a giant countertop ready for flooring epoxy Lemme know if you have any questions along the way

Sure thing: www.stonecoatcountertops.com/diy-flooring-epoxy You can order both the Flake and Metallic Marble here on this landing page. Over concrete or wood both substrates are compatible. Let me know if you need any help ordering. email me at mitch@stonecoatcountertops.com
HI MTICH! Loved watching the video. We have tile floors throughout our house in Florida. You have just given me another idea on what to do when we remodel. While tile is practical for the area, trying to keep the grout lines clean is impossible. Luxury vinyl was the plan to replace the tile. Now I am thinking LV for the living, dining and bedrooms, but definitely like the idea of epoxy for kitchen, baths and laundry room. Thanks again!
The alcohol helps to pop the microbubbles, meld and lace the colors. At first it looks like divots, when the alcohol dissipates the material will self level again, great question. Let me know how to help get your project started!
This one was pretty darn simple! It won't be much harder to do that giant building next to me just more time moving epoxy around! Thanks for watching and let me know if you need help getting a project started!
Hey Mitch Thanks for awesome video. Basement recently flooded Taking out all the walls Is it best to do the whole floor area before constructing new walls?
Im in the middle of an addition project. The concrete is not covered yet and I am considering removing our tile in the adjacent room to also epoxy. These two rooms will would get a lot of traffic. My questions is will i need to buff out scratches in the future from wear and tear? And if so, how difficult is that processes? Thanks Mitch.
Hey Mitch, I recently acquired a house in Mississippi and I’m interested in doing the entire house with epoxy flooring. Will all floors need to be the same design due to prep and finishing time or can I add a little of a different color in each separate room?
Hey Mitch i was just wondering why you are wearing safety glasses? Is that something i should be wearing when working with epoxy? Awesome videos by the way.
You don't want to get the wet epoxy in your eyes. Best practice while mixing, its painful in the eyes. Corporate was here watching me film this video so I was on my best behavior!
Hey Mitch the floor looks amazing!😁I have a question, I leveled my countertops with levelQuik RS I want to use your white epoxy undercoat because I'm doing a marble look would I apply it before or after the seal coat of epoxy? I plan on doing a seal coat, color coat then a flood coat. Thanks I love your videos they are so helpful I have learned so much 😊
Great questions! The epoxy bits really well to the concrete. If this was my job I would: Seal coat countertop with white tinted art coat 1-2 ounces per square foot of countertop and let cure. If the white seal coat covered enough you're ready for color coat, otherwise apply a couple coats of white undercoat let dry 4 hours Apply epoxy coat Apply top coat or clear coat Lemme know if you have any questions along the way -Mitch
