I've never seen the bar method. I've only seen it cocked with rope in a similar fashion. Interesting and very clever and simple use of levers and force.
I met a WW2 veteran (now long passed) who described seeing a Japanese sailor charging his damaged oerlikon in an unusual way as their ship burned and sank. He said something had broken so rather than tip it back as you showed, the Japanese sailor hung on the cocking rope, lifted both feet off the ground, against the bottom of the receiver, until he was upside down, then along with the weight of his body, he pushed with his legs to cock the oerlikon. The veteran described it as "heroic" and said the japanese sailor did not survive. Is it possible to cock an oerlikon like that?
There are several methods of pulling the recoil assembly rearward. There was a rope that attached to the gun and ran over a pulley at the rear of the gun. Then you would pull down on the barrel. Other methods included a ganged pulley arrangement.
Yes, on some mounts there is a pulley mounted in the back of the gun cradle. A cable is attached to the boss on the side of the gun, the barrel is raised and the other end is attached to the base of the mount. By lowering the barrel the gun is cocked.
Thank you for your video..you are a member of a legal club ?? is it legal to have a Oerlikon in your home ?? and where did you find it ?? :) SORRY FOR MY QUESTION,but is a little strange . I use it in Hellenic Navy for six years..!! ,I'm veteran gunnery Navy Officer ,thank you for your time
Thanks for your questions. The Oerlikon is papered like any other machinegun that you can own in the USA. It was a project I restored back around 2003 and have been shooting is ever since. There are a few Oerlikons in private hands, but no one else at least thru this writing is firing the gun. The problem is the complete lack of ammo and some of my other videos details how I make the cases.
@abis9 alpha9 My first experience with cannons ,it was with twin Oerlikon. I was a sniper. I was then 18 years old. Αll is a friendly only advise !! :) You should have more space to be able to arm and handle the Oerlikon better, I have a different way of arming it.Your shoes are not stable , :) I did the lubrication on the cartridge , not on the projectile, since it increases the temperature of the barrel, in my opinion. Αfter so many years I have forgotten the official nomenclature, Okay you are shooting a few shots ,thank you for your time .
