sire mind doing a tutorial of these i mean 1 session/topic at a time i dont get it cuz the idea is all mixed up (bad comprehension XD) like hair coloring tutorial, on another video eyes rendering, clothes rending etc. pls notice me XD
Thank you for making this coloring tutorial!! I really struggle with coloring digital art. Everytime I have to do it I'm not sure where to begin or how to shade. But after coming across your channel I'm really starting to understand how the coloring process works! I love your technique and how you explain EXACTLY what you are doing. I've watched other art tutorials but it's more telling not showing how the shading is done. Without speaking you manage to explain the whole process and that's just amazing! And it's in smaller words so that a viewer can understand. Some of my favorite technique you did in this video is using a overlay layer to add in the orange on the edges of the shadows (I have always wondered how to do it). And using the lasso tool to add in hard shadows. Again thank you so much for making this tutorial. When I color I feel like I understand it more because of your help!
Thank you so much for this in-depth feedback comment, this really means a lot to me. I am glad it was helpful in such a way. I love seeing peoples process, especially when they show some of the 'behind the scene' things like layers and ways to work more efficiently and faster :) the orange edges are a real game changer, they add so much more interest to a shading, it's insane. Again, thanks for your sweet comment, I am so glad it helped :)
Bro... When he made several clipping layers out of the base color layer, I was MIND BLOWN 😩I didn't think of that! This is an amazing tutorial, thank you!
this is the coloring tutorial that I always need. I'm a kind of person who would learn step by step. I've been painting without any direction or proper flow that can make my work flow consistent and make me more faster. this will help me with my current workflow. thank you! will follow some of your process and will apply it with my current process THANK YOU!!!!
That's amazing! I am glad it was helpful^^ I love to watch/see peoples process and when I like some parts of their routine I adopt it into my own process, that's honestly an amazing feeling when you can make them your own :)
@@kurohshiro I keep on watching this video over and over to understand it properly!! I'm really happy for this!! you really break every details to make it understandable like you know what we will ask hahahahah !! huge respect for your effort!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much for letting me know! I was thinking a lot about what to include and how to implement my basic shading rules without making it too long. So thanks for the feedback :)
This is more valuable to me than some $ 100 paid courses I’ve seen tbh. I only wish there is more elaboration on 1:55, exactly how the light falls onto an object. The explanation of your choices is honestly so well done.
Okay! I will keep this in mind for my next videos, that I will focus more on the lighting, honestly I kinda default into this light setting so i want paying attention to how to place the shadows. But you're definitely right. thank you !
I’ve really been struggling with my art lately. I constantly start new projects, but I put off finishing them, because I never seem to be satisfied with my work- my whole process just seems like a mess. This helped me get an idea of how to color and shade, probably the hardest part of drawing for me. Thank you so much for this incredible tutorial!! ❤❤
I adore your art so much. The first time i stumbled on your xiao art in Pinterest and the fact i did found the artist and to know that you even make tutorials. It's very helpful, ty! *fan mode*
omg this is exactly what ive been searching for since like forever!! i always struggled with finding tutorials about coloring and lighting and yours is so easy to understand!! also you're one of my favourite artists out there so your process and tutorials mean a lot to me :D thank you sm for your work, you inspire me so much
Gosh, thanks a lot! I am happy to hear it was helping you! Ahhh thanks, I am slowly leaning towards a calmer music, when you watch my older vids i was always putting some electronic, fast paced, stuff in the background which was a bit too aggressive to watch lol, so I will stick with the more chill/uplifting music^^
The step of making a clip mask for each part after the rough color it’s soooooo helpful, I’ve always liked doing rough color in the same layer but rendering in different layers and you just solved my problem, it never occurred to me 😂😂 Thanks!
yeah, i struggle with rendering everything on one layer, so i rather have the luxury of having more than one layer but the nice look of the messy shading^^
THANK VERY MUCH, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH, with your help I am being able to learn much better and faster so many amazing things for drawing, I never got into the habit of coloring but I always wanted to do that when I switched from paper to digital art however I still I was having difficulties, with your help I'm finally understanding how it's done, now I just need to get used to it better and learn how to use color tones better
Thank you so much Kuroshiro! You even mention all those sort of shading types and explained them in detailed. Please don't delete the video. I'll comeback later many times to learn and practise again. Thanks again ❤
How I was waiting for this video, thank you, it's great! Your rendering and colors are some of the best I've seen, honestly! The feel of your final work is like a "soft touch" finish. It's an amazing feeling! Thanks for such a detailed video!
I always loved the way you render, I want my art to look as good as yours too! this is really helpful tysm :D Also in regards to questions, (may be completely unrelated), how long does it normally take you to finish a piece?
Oh wow, thank you! It's actually a very simple way of rendering and not that clean and polished from a closer look but it works from a distance and thats good :) Some painting are very quick, like this one (20h?) and some take me ages, 100h+ And thats not because of the rendering, its mostly a proportion issue in the face which i notice way too late and then i have to redo parts so many times. So a good sketch means a quickly finished piece haha
@@kurohshiro 20 hours is actually similar to myself surprisingly (I thought great artists would take shorter like 30 minutes, eg. samdoesarts) I was going to ask if you make mistakes post-lineart but you answered that already… So the actual painting process may take 20-100 hours, but on a day-week-month scale how long does it take? Including breaks and procrastination (if it happens). I’m also curious as to how much art experience you have, as in for how long since you started drawing? Do you work on multiple illustrations at a time or you only start a new one when you finish the previous? I’ve also noticed you used a limited amount of layers (base color layer, render layer, special effects/other layer only), has it happened to you to make a mistake and unable to rub it out as it rubs out the entire render? This one is just pure curiosity, as it has happened to me several times (why I end up using 700+ layers) Sorry for bombarding you with questions ಥ_ಥ you’re a huge inspiration to me, I love how you can draw so many poses and so many head angles while it still looks good, it’s so cool how you can make desaturated colors stand out so much…
@@WhiteFox508 trying to compare anyone to sam’s speed is asking for trouble tbh. Sam has a style of minimalism that has been fully optimized for max output at a very high speed. People like us on the other hand are still figuring out our art and as such we take time. Sometimes we don’t like the color, sometimes we forget how we did it in our previous piece. Even someone like Kuroshiro, as he mentioned above, has minor problems here and there. If you want to get super high speeds, then I suggest ironing out your workflow. Then try drawing a complete piece in 2hours. Your brain will have to work even harder to figure out how to get good results in such a short amount of time. Don’t run away, just run to your goal.
Thanks for the video ^^ i was able to take a few new tips from this! 1. Rough coloring first 2. Using lasso to give one side a hard edge but you can still color soft 3. Liquify tool to make a pattern fit the art! Never thought about that!
Your art is such an inspiration to me. I was really losing my motivation for art because of how big a learning curve digital art is, I felt like I never knew anything at all, no matter how many tutorials I would watch. But your videos have saved me! Thank you so much, my drive for art is finally growing again! I love your art and your videos, keep doing what you're doing! ❤
This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you so much! I have been struggling on coloring a lot recently so this came perfectly on time for me, I really needed some help to guide me and I really like your method that you just showed us! I would love to see a more in depth tutorial on how to shade clothes because that’s what I’m struggling the most, I don’t really understand how folds works and I am founding myself recoloring my character’s clothes multiples times because I don’t get how to color them, if you can I’d really appreciate it but even if you can’t I’m still grateful for all your content and awesome drawings, they’re so inspiring especially watching your process videos!
Finally some good shading tutorial omg… THANK YOU !!! 🙏 Ive been struggling so hard since forever and I couldn’t find a video that I could understand clearly, I’m really happy now ☺️
Thank you so much for taking your time to do this! It really taught me a lot about how colours work, and I also got to know some tips on using CSP (I recently just got the drawing app). I had a very long art block and haven't done digital art for months. I started drawing again a month ago and I already forgot how to finish a single piece. All my drawings looked so bland and empty lately. But after watching this video, I feel like I know how to start over again. I've been a fan of your work for a long time. Your art style is one of my favourites! So once again, thank you very much for this video! Its very helpful! ^^ I apologize if my english is a bit off
That's a sweet comment, thank you very much! Sometimes I compare artblocks with riding a bike, even if you haven't done it for a long time, you will get back to the same level you used to have and improve even further. So I am wishing you the best of success, you got this :)
this tutorial is amazing omg, you explained everything so well!! the thing about using saturated shadows for desaturated drawings and vice versa is rlly helpful, this might seem silly but it was a great advice to me!
I've been digitally drawing for over 10 years this is one of the best tutorials I've seen since you stop and explain why you light things a certain way. and for FREE?! thank you so much! I'm going to binge your videos and follow your art pages
THANK YOU SO MUCHH, i struggle with determining a comfortable process and i've never thought of doing the basic colors in one layer and just clipping them onto the other layers later... thank you agaiinn T-T
Tysm for sharing!! You have no idea 💞💕💞💕 I've always wanted to be a bit messy with my lineart but couldn't figure out how to make my shading clean without taking 10 years to manually shade. I will give your technique a try 😊
Ahh I love so much your artstyle, it looks so beautiful. Thank you so much for this tutorial, this is REALLY a true tutorial, you explain everything in details! It's so easy to understand, and so relaxing too! You really show every steps of the process, you give all your references, your workplace, brushes etc. I love artists who are showing their references, I'm going to try your tutorial, which is very amazing. Thank you again for your help, you're such a big help for the artists' community. :) Keep it up, can't wait to see more of your art journey. ps: I discovered you long time ago, and I loved when you did your first process. You're showing really from start to finish!
Aw what a sweet and endearing comment, I am so flattered reading your words. I am trying my best to keep the pace and quality of the videos! Thank you so much, also for sticking around with me for a long time, I really appreciate it!
You've gained a subscriber, thank you so much for your valuable information! I understand sometimes we want to keep our tricks to ourselves, so being so generous as to help struggling artists and those who want to better their own artwork is not only appreciated but admirable. Thank you
This video literally answered my painting prayers cos I really needed detailed info like this! The Process from start to finish was easier to understand than most, and the result here is really amazing no doubt, so I'm looking forward to putting it into practice!💯❤
Thank you for doing this tutorial, I just finished my line art of a oc then I was desperate to find a helpful Shading & Coloring tutorial, It really helped me and the other viewiers. Keep up the good work, but make sure to rest and take care of yourself. I'm a type of person who usually don't understand things I'm not good at, but I quite understand this.😅
insane, thanks for taking the time to post these videos, hope you know you are helping many, now I want to try some of these out on my work, have an awesome one!
Omg, thank you so much for this video! I've been struggling to colour and shade my art pieces because I don't understand the basic fundamentals of it. However, after watching this I'm starting to get it. This video was very helpful! And oh, you have a really clean and appealing art style. :O You just earned a new sub, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for making this tutorial, this is help me a lot and make me wanna back to drawing again after not using my pentab for a long time. Thank you KuroShiro! I really happy found you, this is masterpiece!
thank you so much for this tutorial, its really clean and easy to understeand, i will be trying it out, this is my dream colour style so i hope this technique works out for me
Рада что наткнулась на это видео. Только недавно перешла на диджитал, чувствую себя немного потерянной там, так что подметила для себя из видео пару полезных фишек. Спасибо за такой туториал ♡
OHMYGOD THE THING YOU DO WHEN YOU CLIP THE ROUGH COLORING ONTO THE SHAPES IS SO GENIUS OHYMGOD ??!@>!?@! genuinely thank you for this so much sobs i love how this comes out right when im having such an art constipation moment with my colouring o+< tbh the only reason im even pushing myself sm to color this one thing is bc my friend is doing a dtiys and i rlly wanna participate for her so ive been trying to force myself out of my art block thats been going on for ages now TT thank you so so so much for this i dont think i can describe how grateful i am without going all super sappy cheesy
Oh I know the feeling with forcing art, it's usually not good but once you started it may get better? Good luck for the dtiys, i am sure your friend will be so happy :) Thanks for your sweet comment! I really appreciate it :3
I always do it like that, it seemed really messy to me as I was working on the video, like 'No one's going to understand this' but I am glad it could provide help!
The idea of making a messy color in for shadows, then make new separate layers, then duplicate and clip the messy color to those cleaner outlines is a very clever idea. I've done messy coloring for a practice shadow but would then make silhouettes of stuff for each layer and couldn't recreate that nice look I like in the other one. That's very clever.
thank you so much for the explanation! I already knew some of the light and shadow theories but I don't think I've ever digested it as easily until you did! love the editing as well. Video is very well put together ^^
This is what I've been trying to find for so long! I've always been constrained by my lineart, because I don't know how to properly render. My biggest gripe was that I didn't know how the layers should be ordered or how much should I shade before it's done redering. Thank you for posting this!
Ohh I know about this...my key is to colour just as much that it looks good from a distance, the distance the majority of people will see it, so really small, on their screens. More information sometimes confuses the viewers eyes, so I rather keep it simple with strong shapes :)
I always love your art and have been dying to know how you color things. I just realized that you have youtube so now I can learn how to color like you :"
I promise you, when you do it for some time you will get the hang of it, and its actually so easy comapred to other media like watercolour or colour pencils, at least for me^^ So thanks for your comment!
Thank you so much for this video!! I've been wondering how to shading like this and you explain it in very easy way I can understand it. Thank you so much! And you also draw giyuu! for this, thank you!!
Thanks for taking the time to make this, there’s a lot of information! I’ll try to apply it and learn from it :D you’re very skilled and someone to learn a lot from!
