your video seriously guided me from start to finish for my first ever going brunette. I watched a ton and this is the one that I understood the most. I have always been a blonde so this was a BIG DEAL, lol! I love that you used Sally's products because they are easy to go get for the normal shopper too. The one thing I wish had been shown was how to use the filler. I had gotten kind of confused on the directions but I did end up figuring out. Other than that, My hair turned out amazing so thank you SO SO much for making this tutorial! Im now a subsriber!
Hi! I just read your comment and I was wondering what products you picked at Sally's?? I to have been blonde my whole life. Born a toe head and platinum blonde for 27 yrs. I am now 48 and it washes me out and makes me look older and cheap ha ha!!! I am now a dark blonde level 6. But I have access to a Sally's and would like to check out the products you had success with. Thanks, Chrissy
@@chrissy1310 I am 49 and a lifelong blonde just like you, I am literally watching videos how to do this for the same reasons lol. I am definitely washed out looking and honestly don't think I look as good as I did when I was younger and loved my blonde life. I've seen so many people look less washed out in the after videos, plus I'd love to try it, I'm looking for any negatives, like the lights root grow out or if it really fades, or how hard to go back natural while waiting for it to grow out if I don't really like it after all. Did you stay brown?
@@TarynsTime haha, I am 45 and a natural brunette who has been heavy highlighting for a couple years, but tired if the roots always showing... Would like to go back brunette but when I tried it I looked washed out, older and pastier with brown hair! So... I think we just have to change our perception of ourselves! Lol I a m trying to figure out now whether to try to go back brown again or get more highlights but it's really taken a toll on my hair.
I've been searching through so many tutorials on how to do this and yours is by far the best. So many other channels went really quickly over the products to the point where it was super confusing and nerve wracking. It's clear you know what you're doing and you showed it in a way people who don't know anything about color theory can understand. Thank you!!
I know this is old but for anyone watching, for some reason miscellar water gets hair dye off your skin AND your counters! It was just the only thing around me one day and I used it and it works! Even after it’s been sitting for a little while, it works wonders!
I think you were trying to remember the quote from Ben Franklin: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Ben adored beautiful women and probably would've loved it that you thought of his words. Great video. Thanks for sharing this!
Yours is the FIRST video I've found where someone used a WARM brown color & not a neutral brown when going from blonde- FINALLY! Also an added plus, you used the warm brown protein filler. I was nervous about not using red & what the results would be without it, but seeing your results, now I'm not as worried. Thank You!
It looks so good on you! I'm so glad I came across your video: I had blonde highlights in my hair and did not know the box color I used would wash out of that part so quickly. Makes sense! I know what to do next time! Thanks!
You can add protein filler to the dye. Like if you wanna use an ash color with green base you can use red protein filler to the dye to counteract the green. Less messy.
You really are beautiful and have excellent bone structure. You really look like a model, but I loved your tips and your sense of humor! Thanks for the video! New subbie here!
A lot of great info! I used to dye my hair dark brown all the time at home, then I went to the salon and went all over blonde and it damaged my hair tremendously and it was so $$$. So I decided I was going back to my natural color. The girl didn't use filler or anything and I was a platinum blonde (minus my roots level 5/6) but now I'm left with a weird ashy, grey, green brown and I hate it... I spent $70 for that... so disappointing! I should've just went back to dying my hair at home. Lesson learned! Lol thanks for the tips girl! 😘
Girl I’m doing exactly what you just did... I’m waiting for the 5G to process I really hope this works so far this is the most informative video about “blonde to brunette” that I found... you should keep making videos!! P.D... I will comment what the final result is :o
I loved ur video and appreciated ur explanation.... u simply gave tips so simple and easy to understand that most hairdressors hide hide to intimidate u from diy. U look fab!!
A red based brown like chestnut brown or adding an R colour to your blonde , like 6rb,light reddish brown when going dark would suffice too , even semi colour, small amount, and some bond repair additive maybe, all in same mixture, you could then adjust to other browns or darker blonde if you wanted but nice🎉
I've given up on Wella color charm... every time I use it it's super saturated and way too dark. And it never washes out. I switched to Revlon box color and I'm happy.
Thank you so much for this video. I followed the instructions exactly and my hair came out perfect. It was my first time dying my own hair so I was scared. Thank you again!
I too am board with the major highlights in my hair. Just can't decide how to make it better...what color, what stuff for my balding head... Seriously, your videos are so well done, especially considering your minimalist technology.
Well, since bleached hair is so porous, rising the filler, out those ends won’t hold the protein, you’ll just be rinsing the majority of it out. The color of the filler might stay somewhat but the actual protein (which is why you’re using it) will be mostly gone. Your best bet for lasting color on those porous ends is to NOT rinse that filler out before dying it. I would bet my life that those who rinse the filler before coloring their hair to their desired brunette richness, their ends fade rather quickly. And then they’re left chasing that color they wanted, whether it be by having to dye it again and again (further damaging already damaged hair) or trying to give it a punch of color with continued toners or a glazes. So you shouldn’t ever rinse a protein filler out before applying the dye.
I know I'm late to the game but during this quarantine, I'm realizing daily that I need to cover my blonde highlights and go back to my natural and can I just say, this was the most informational video! My question is...I bought just a neutral protein filler, will that not work as well since I didn't purchase a colored filler? Thank you :)
You’re hair looks more abundant darker than lighter as well as healthier and it suits your skin tone as well. Did you apply the color over the protein filler ? I don’t think you washed it off first but again, I might have missed what you said/did :)
For sure use red or a bright copper if you are going a lighter brown. For protein you can make an egg mask, or a gelatin mask, or use.mayonaise or rice water at home. You can look on RU-vid for all these treatments.
How was your hair color after it faded ? Is it faded to brownish color or red/orange color? And What's the difference between the filler you used and the red filler ? I watched some people using the red filler. I wanna dye my hair brown but afraid that it fades to reddish or orange color. What do you think?
My hair just faded to a lighter neutral brown. My hair pulls a lot of red when I lift it with bleach so I don’t need to put red back into it when going dark or it goes Auburn. It depends on your own hair and the underlying pigments.
my hair was dyed a couple weeks ago from a warm blonde, to an ashy brown. my hair dresser did not use a filler & now my hair is a light brown/dirty blonde with a green undertone. 😞 i want to get rid of the green undertones & go a little bit warm. do i still need a filler or can i just put a warm brown color on my hair? & if i do need a filler, what tone?
Red combats green... Choose a light copper brown or a reddish brown to cancel the ash which is green. The shade of brown you want, buy a shade one step lighter with a warm red undertone. Should work... You can use a semi permanent or Demi until you find the exact shades that work for you. It's fades and is easier to correct I think if you needed to. Good luck to you!
I made the mistake of going level 4 chocolate brown vs what I should have done which is level 5 ash. Now I have a red undertone and my hair looks red jet black. I have olive skin so it looks terrible on me.
I did everything you did except I bought a different color. I bought Clairol True Color 5N chestnut marron. It turned out to be a pretty color but I do still have some patches of blonde I mean their darker but not as dark as the rest of my hair. Do you know what I could do for these areas? I was thinking about adding the filler again to just those areas and color in a week or so. Thank you for your editorial!
I am platinum right now and wanna start going back will that protein filler help me darken my hair.. I want a ash brown like no reds on it.. my natural hair has a red tint and I don’t like it lol
Casey Thompson I do stain my scalp - but you can avoid staining your hairline by applying a layer of Vaseline on the skin close to your hair line to act like a barrier
my hair is naturally dark blonde (probably level 6 some 7, with some 5 on the underneath). I have virgin hair and was wondering if I need to fill it before dying it with Demi-permanent light/medium brown. would neutral brown be a bad idea? I don't want my hair to look too warm...my natural hair is quite warm and has a lot of yellow/orange especially in the sun.
+Courtney Lynne No the filler is only for going darker. I would use a cool ash tone color to counteract your natural warm tones and get to the neutral base you want!
+Soul Beauty I do want to go darker! I'm blonde and want to be a medium brown but my hair has natural warmth, so I was wondering if filling is necessary.
ONCE YOU ARE DARK, DO YOU HAVE TO USE THE PROTEIN FILLER EACH TIME YOU COLOR AGAIN? ALSO, YOU SAID THIS COLOR IS NOT NORMALLY THIS DARK, I LIKE THE WAY IT TURNED OUT SO WHAT COLOR TO USE TO KEEP IT DARK NEXT TIME? ( I HATE RED HAIR BY THE WAY) THANKS
+vancelisa1 Bleach removes a lot of protein from you hair which helps hold onto color so it depends on how damaged your hair is. If your hair is relatively healthy, you only should need the filler when you're going from light to dark. If you notice your color is fading quickly, use protein filler again before re-coloring. If you like the exact color my hair turned out at the beginning, depending on your starting base color, I would use a permanent level 4 Neutral color.
