How to combine Map Layers and Filter Actions in Tableau

Hi Juwan, I created a parameter called [KPI parameter] that has a list of three items (Sales, Quantity and Profit). I then used the parameter to create a calculated field called [KPI], wherein I write something along the lines of "IF [KPI parameter] = "Sales" THEN [Sales] ELSEIF [KPI parameter] = "Quantity" THEN [Quantity] ELSE [Profit]". Basically this tells Tableau to return the [Sales] field when the parameter is set to the string "Sales". This way I don't to need create multiple dashboards. It is important to this calculated field in all the graphs in the dashboard to obtain the effect you see in the video.

@@downtoearthdatatips Thank You I found where to type in the calculated field. I was stuck for awhile and didn't really even know how to ask what it was. Your explanation is greatly appreciated.

Hi Reina! If you click on a region to filter the rest of the dashboard (like at minute 5:18) Tableau will temporarily only show the region layer, and not the city or state

@@downtoearthdatatips no, iwant the region as a a filter for the city. So when we click the region it will be dotted cities filtered

@@reinanovazania from what I see you can't do this within the same map, you will need two graphs (or two maps) to filter city and region against each other
