Watched the entire video, and I got to the part where you said these boots will last the rest of your life. I was thinking when you said you owned multiple different pairs of high quality boots, and take care of them like you do these... you won't have to buy boots ever again. Done and done. Just maintain them. That's kinda where I'm at. The boots I own will outlast me. I've got boots I will never wear out. Resole, maybe, but thats about it.

I've had the non-insulated version (no longer made, I believe) of those boots for 6 years and really enjoy them. I've used Sno Seal and the Red Wing conditioner (like you showed) on them and they're still in great shape, although they're about due for outsoles. The false tongue is called a kiltie, BTW.

I do kinda the same thing. I just apply heavy heat (torch) between coats. No blow dryer for me, I like the darker deeper look the torch leaves.

This is so funny. I just bought these exact boots earlier today and the guy recommened to me this exact product to use on the leather. I dont have a blow dryer or brush but i followed all your instructions and they are looking great. Cant wait to wear them. Thanks for the video sir.

I’ve seen a video where a person sands the front toe area of the boot before applying the conditioner and using a heat gun so it speeds up the leather absorbing the conditioner multiple layers of conditioner before starting the polishing process

I still have my docs , a few pair from years and years ago. I know kids like the way they look brand new for some reason, but leather gets better with years. If you can call Drs leather. Docs were my gateway drug into leather boots. Good luck! Wear them suckers in!

Believe it or not, I’ve been using Dax pomade with lanolin n vegetable oils with great result to condition leather for years. Mostly because of price.. but used it on boots, jackets, car seats, wallets etc. another product I use with great results is elephant wax.. museums use it to condition priceless leather objects. I have boots that I’ve walked the soles off, but the leather upper is like new.

Nice video. Those should last you a nice long time. The finishing touch would be to ditch those factory laces and get a pair of Obenauf's treated laces. They are the best!

You can always tell the boys at the store to do that for you before you buy them or ask you a bottom or water seal them they always do that for me maybe because I’m a girl and then wear them out bring them in that I don’t get home clean mama let them dry out then moisturize them you don’t have to do them right away unless you’re gonna want to put them a little bit more etc. etc. - I’ll be the same colour by tomorrow morning

Both of these products have beeswax. What do u think of using an oil first, then beeswax? Is mink oil only an oil, or is there also beeswax in it? I just got some Angelus Genuine Mink Oil... it doesn't say what ingredients are in it, but it does say "Waterproofer/Conditioner", so I'm assuming it has some kind of wax in it. Please let me know what you think.

lol, do NOT put any of this stuff on any form of neubuck or suede, literally the only thing you can use that is used in this video is the horse hair brush.

I conditioned my Birkenstock leather and it got very dark. I used the Doc Martens Wonder Balsam which has coconut oil, beeswax and lanolin oil in it. Just wondering if it darkened my leather temporarily or is this the permanent color now?

Step one: don’t condition a brand new pair of boots. All joking aside, you dont need to condition new boots because they come conditioned from the factory and conditioning them too much could damage the leather.
@voz8203

not all leather are pre conditioned

And if you’re using them for I tensile labor, particularly around moisture, you’ll want to hit them with some all season water proofing and seal it in.

You are the reason why people mess up their boots, why would you ruin a new looking boot by conditioning the leather which is already conditioned . Just wait till the time comes . why fix something that is not broken!
@yikes6969
@yikes6969 Год назад
You're dumb. It's not going to mess it up at all. Leather dries out in the time between manufacturing and purchase. He would need to use way more than that to "over condition". Conditioning a new boot is standard practice

I'm sorry but this video is mostly BS. ANY conditioner product that comes from animals or plants will dry over time or be eaten by microbes. The KEY is to use mineral or petroleum oil ( same thing) ie motor oil... Thats right Qaker State, Pennzoil 30 weight etc. The oil you let soak into leather will be there in 200 years. Do not recommend motor oil for dress shoes do to change of color etc. use for construction, hiking, hunting boots, belts, saddles and leather jackets etc. Note, motor oil has a slightly distinct smell so if you use motor oil on leather jacket, use only Synthetic motor oil as it does not have the nasty odor. I am 72 years old and am still using high school football shoes with cleats 1969 to cut grass with push mower. These shoes are made of kangaroo leather. Every 15 years, I paint the motor oil on my boots and saddles and belts etc.

your understanding of skin, leather and pores are extremely misguided. pores open up in living skin because of the small muscles that control them. the same doesn't apply to leather. human skin is also unique, most other animals do not have pores like human skin.
@yikes6969
@yikes6969 Год назад
Heat causes expansion. And yes leather does have pores and holes where hair once grew from. Heat will cause those to expand and open up allowing for more absorption. It's always funny when someone goes big brain mode and tries to correct someone with their bad info

The color change is so sad. Buying expensive boots with interesting leather and color and turning it into plain boring brown. What's the point?
@Beardman56
@Beardman56 Год назад
They're not dress boots. Don't use obenaufs on dress shoes or boots. They're tools. Never understood the not wanting to darken leather anyways
