I found my grandpa's baseball glove from the late 1940's and it had been sitting in box for who knows how long, it was extremely dry but not to the point of disintegrating so I used almost 1 whole can of Obenauf's on it and it's now completely hydrated and usable again. It works great.

Hi Cody. I recently started carrying a small plastic tube with 15-20 cotton balls soaked with Obenauf's. This stuff is great! Rather than carrying oil, when I use my axe or knife, I'll take out a cotton ball and apply a light coat of the Obenauf's to prevent rust. That way, if I use the knife for camp food prep, I don't have to worry about it. As you point out, I also use it as lip balm, and finally, the cotton balls make great fire starters. Talk about multi-purpose! Thanks.

I have my Father's 1911 and holster that he went ashore wearing on June 6, 1944. Have tried a couple of things on the holster, it did not recover from being submerged in river mud for a week back in 1998 like the pistol did. I hope this product will revive this bit of history better than some other things I have used. The best I can say so far is that the leather stopped deteriorating so far...

Please tell me what the difference is between Obenaufs and Frye LP. I bought a purse from Frye (500.00) and need to put an LP on it now. I have Obenaufs on hand, I put it on my boots! But I would have to order Frye LP. It did make my boots “much darker”, but they were already Cognac! My purse is natural leather. This is the first time I’ve used it when I applied it to my boots. Im thinking it will really darken the purse. I have an Obenaufs brochure, can’t find anything about applying to purses! Thanks! Shirley Loved the video BTW

Mr. Wranglerstar, I grew up in Minnesota and spent my childhood years with Dad near the Canadian boarder hunting, fishing and just plain living. I was nearly 20 when dad passed away. An old Sweed, Marine, and honest man he was. I didnt learn everything I needed to pursue my dream, doing everything you are doing. Thank you for being such a close friend ( even tho we have never met) and mentor. You help me so much in your wisdom and teaching. God Bless you and yours.

A few friends of mine have had sub $200 Chippewas for a decade or longer. You can't always knock a product because it's affordable. There are exceptions.. and I think Chippewas and Thorogoods are a couple examples for a quality boot at an affordable price.

I've used Obenaufs for years. I worked as a Thermite welder on the U P Railroad. The heat from the welds and the sparks from grinding really exact a toll on boots. It dries and cracks the leather and the boot laces. Obenaufs saved my boots and gave me years of service out of one pair of boots. Working in the ballast and in all types of weather, proper boot care is essential to your feet and back. Nobody wants to break in a new pair of boots once a year or shoes for that matter. Obenaufs was the answer for me. I use it on all my leather products. My trail companion uses it on his boots in the winter, to protect his paws from sharp ice. We both endorse Obenaufs.

Cody, Iv'e used it for a couple years now and it's my goto for all my leather needs and I suffered from cracked skin on my feet bottoms and after a few applications I no longer have the problem along with some other foot problems and that went away also. P.S. by the way listening to your advice brought me to investing in some Wesco boots and I would recommend others do the same I put them on in the morning and almost don't want to take them off at the end of the day. Thanks.

I use 550 paracord to make my own laces. Then coat them with beeswax. I also have a different technique for tying my laces. They will not come undone. No, it’s not the “double knot” that most other people do.

I use the HD LP on my leather boots for brewing. Most guys in my industry use rubber boots, Mucks or Xtratufs. However, rubber just doesn't breath and most brewers walk out with major swamp foot. I have been using the LP on my Wolverine boots for 3 months and my feet have never felt better! I just reapply on saturday morning over coffee and my boots are good for the next week. A lot of hot water, brewing acids and caustics get on these boots. I can attest to Obenofe LP.

The edges were bordered by some really rough abrasive ice and her feet quickly got rubbed raw, cracked and bleeding. Had some LP in the truck, rubbed it on her feet, and some on her dry nose. Obviously Took her home for the day, but the LP helped heal her feet up really quickly.

Creative use: I too have nice leather boots and jackets etc. 'M a carpenter and have had the same hammers since my dad passed them down to me 30 years ago. They are Eastwing hammers with stacked leather handles. These are great looking and vomfortable tools but know to dry out and the leather shrinks and you get the picture. My dad taught me early on the importance of conditioning leather. Even the hammer handles. Especially the gammer handles. Well my hammers are probably 50 years old at least and I wouldnt trade them for brand new ones. I would live to try this product! Thanks for the video!

wranglerstar I find that if you go around the loop twice, instead of once, your boots and shoes will not come untied. Way stronger than double nots, and with a much smaller footprint. When I was a kid, I used to retie my shoes multiple times a day, and after I learned this trick I found I could leave them tied for months if I wanted too with no slippage.

Wow - from 7 years ago you look great. Long time subscriber first time commenter. This is what I use on my Saddleback leather briefcase/satchel & wallet, I also use it on my Filson Tin cloth jacket and hats, my Fox creek motorcycle boots and jacket too. Works great on wood breadboards. I also use it on my circa 1982 Vasque leather mountain hiking boots too. You could practice on yellow VEG-TAN leather work gloves if you like. Most of the items I mentioned are in the dark tan to brown or black color spectrum. So I don't notice any darkening. Here is my secret sauce. Food Grade Coconut Oil, the stuff that looks like Crisco shortening, (grocery store item) not the commercial coconut oil stuff you put on your body to sun tan with. Soaks in quickly, dries to the touch, and softens too. If you have any over waxed Filson Tin Cloth items try it on those first. You'll be amazed.

I've worn every day a cheap pair of Sketcher leather boots for 5 almost 6 years. They were cracking really bad in the bend area and some all over. After seeing this video on Obernauf's it reminded me of the herbal antibiotic salve I make with bees wax and herb infused vegetable oil. So I watched the other videos on how to apply the Obernauf's. I decided my boots were about to be replaced anyway plus I have a surplus of the salve (I intended to sell it but govt regs...). So I threw caution to the wind and gave it a shot. After just 1 application the boots bent better. Next pair of boots are deffinetly getting treated. I do feel there was 1 minor drawback. My boots were a nice tan. Now they're almost black. Maybe it will lighten up some after it dries. I just got finished with it.

I like the way you take care of all you own. You treat them with respect while using them and care for them after. Some people do not see the value in it but I challenge those individuals to think of how they care for their firearms... You treat them with respect, use them, and if you do care and respect firearms; then you clean and lubricate them and keep them in a safe place where it can't be damaged. It will last a life time if you do. So will many tools and quality items.

My grandfather acquired a black snake whip while working on the Chisum ranch (as in the John Wayne movie) in New Mexico many years ago. He gave it to me a few years back and it is in desperate need of of conditioning. I have not known what kind of treatment to use until I saw your video. I would love to use some Obenauf's on it.

OBENAUF MIGHT BE A GOOD WAY TO HIDE SHALLOW BLEMISHES/SCRATCCHES IN FURNITURE: My grandfather taught me that if one rubs his figure onto your forehead or the crease of your nose your figure collects natural oils. Rub the oil into leather scratches or shallow scratches of wood furniture. So the Obenauf wax might be a good way to hide blemishes in furniture...

Perfect name for the product. Obenauf in German translates to "On Top" and based on your video, the product should be used on top of all leather products!

There is so many use I can think of. My red wing boots, saddles, any kind of horse tack, seats in my truck, handles and sheaths of the knives I am restoring, the old hammers and some other leather handled tools I have. Maybe if I ise it in conjuction with an angle grinder it will soften my wifes 36 grit feet. Plus here in Maine there are plenty of woodsman, hunters and truck driver I could show it to that would love it.

I'm sorry to say they used to be easy to come by on eBay. I fear Wranglerstar subscribers are buying them all up. I can't even find one for myself...

Obenauf's also works great for baseball mitts. I like to use a hairdryer or heat gun to help it get in.

Thanks for the info. I am a hunter and learned through another RU-vid channel to process the deer fat into tallow. I have been using that on my boots and leather goods for about a year now and have had outstanding results. Just thought I would throw that out.

Use it on my shoes, boots, holsters, motorcycle jacket, gloves, boots, chaps, and leather jackets, belts, even the leather wrapped steering wheel in my truck. Pretty much everything I own that has leather on it. Great stuff. I think my motorcycle gear is the best test for Obenauf's between sun, rain, wind, dirt, road salt, and cold my gear sees it all including the bird droppings, and bug splats.

I can guarantee that it will make your gloves seem brand new. Well, better than new. Obenauf's makes the leather tougher, and more supple.

I have been one of those guys buying Walmart boots. If you actually work in them and use them daily you wear them out in 3 months tops. Spending money to get the best you can and take care of it is the way to go.

If you have a pair of moccasins (or gloves) that happen to be hardening, usually because they've been gotten wet and allowed to dry improperly, the best way I've found to soften them back up is to just apply Obenauf's very generously to your feet (or hands) before putting on the moccasins. Wear them until your feet have time to heat the moccasin (same idea with hands and gloves) up and really allow that Obenauf's to soak in. An added benefit is it really helps remove callouses from your feet!

I have a pair of FR-rated Belville steel-toe boots. The West is brutal on leather boots, even rough-out leather desert-type boots. Well, Oberhaufs does an excellent job at restoring and protecting my Bellviles, though it does make them dark and smooth.

I have never got any custom boots made Cody, (would love to), but I have a few pairs of Wolverine brand boots that I've been wearing & maintaining since 2004. VERY reliable & durable. Bought both of them at my local Army/Navy store. They're waterproof as well. I highly recommend that brand brother.

Obenaufs LP is a really great product. I had a guy tell me about it while on the fireline 10 years ago and have used it ever since. I have used nothing but it on my pair of Wesco boots and have had them since 2002. I don't turn my gloves inside out but I do use Obenaufs on them occasionally. Like a good pair of boots, you can get a lot of use out of a good quality pair of leather gloves if you take care of them.

Hey Cody, I know you said you do not use the Obenauf's LP on your gloves & neither do I, but have have been using the Obenauf's Leather Oil. A quick dose here & there has really increased the life of my gloves. Take Care, Londian, Lars

I've had that happen. You're just an active guy. One time in high school while bailing and bucking hay bails, I fell under the wagon wheel and luckily I got up after the wagon rolled over my anchel and all my speedlaces on one side were straightened out. A pair of pliers and we were back in business. The tractor driver about fainted when he saw the wheel go over my foot.

I could think of alot of uses. Horse tack and saddles, my red wing boots, leather seats in my truck, my sons boots from rotc, the handles and sheaths of the knives I'm restoring, the leather on my hammers and other leather handled tool from my dad. Heck it may even work on my wifes 36 grit feet in conjunction with an angle grinder. I may even try it on a few wooden knife handles when I make them. There is alot of hunters and loggers here in maine I would like to introduce it to.

Another Great Video. I use the Obenaufs on my Nicks Hotshots. I like to "grease" up the boots and then put them in the cab of my truck with the windows closed on a sunny day. This opens the leather and absorbs the Obenaufs. In the winter they sit in front of a wood stove between coats. I did not know about the laces that are offered (I usually buy my Obenaufs from Nicks), but am interested in them now. I may have to order a couple of sets.

I bought $100 timberland boots in 2002 and they are still in great condition in 2014 after a lot of wear. So I guess that kills that expensive boots = good investment argument.
