And the main reason you need that POWERED USB Hub.. is because your phone (or other tablet device) will not power the audio interface by itself.. Good video
INSTEAD of the power hub i connected my lightning cable to the camera adapter AND the wall charger, the USB -A also goes into the camera adapter. It works great with BIAS FX 2 or Garage band. (Bias fx 2 was cheaper on iphone than desktop). But i like recording with AUDACITY, so i will need a power HUB to take my output to my PC.
@@MikeSheasheaDtree i use the powered USB Hub because along with adding power, i can also connect a Keyboard controller, or an old Akai MPC drum pad.. (or any other USB device) to play the sounds
Omg I didn’t even think this was possible to do!!!! I use band lab and I wished and wished I could do a set up like this on my phone because I was nervous about setting it all up on my Mac book and I’m really comfortable using band lab on my iPhone. I used the Apple headphones with the mic for recording. I can’t believe I can actually do this!!! Thank you so much I can’t wait!!!
Same thing I got on here to search for...bandlab vocal settings are pretty damn good already so I knew with this I could be at the library making hits 😂
Thanks for the great tip! However, is there a way to use the iphone camera to record video and have that microphone as an audio? I tried but it seems like it’s just picking up the iphone microphone and the microphone only works in garageband.
so I just got all the hardware for this set up, your video shows me step by step in a clear concise way how to do it but it helps that I've viewed many videos but now I'm ready to record thanks for your tut
Are you recording in GarageBand on iPhone. I’m going to be recording guitars and vocals and I’m wondering if I should get a DI box because I feel like all these adapters would create some sort of buzz.
After watching this I decided against the Scarlett and just get the Roland GO:MIXER PRO-X....makes it so much easier just plug and play - no wires. Thank you for the video.
@@The_Rev_Room Question though does that create any kind of buzzing while recording vocals or guitar seems like anything and everything can in some way or another. Going to be recording garage band guitars using this method on my phone. Was thinking about getting a DI box just to make sure I didn’t have any issues
Thank you for the fantastic. I have struggled to connect Steinberg UR12 to my ipad pro 5th gen. I found that even ipad pro 5th gen requires a similar adapture (AV) for UR 12 audio interface. IF this information was reflected in any of the videos. It would have saved a lot of time for me. Thank you for the video.
thank you so much, works exactly how you described after about a week of getting all the parts. When recording video on iPhone 13 I can also use the condenser mic. Thanks!!!
This is a cool configuration. I’m trying to figure out too many things at once. Best to just try out some set ups like this. Trial and error. Not my favorite part of making music 😆 gotta be patient and diligent. Respect! Thanks
Yes, there are so many different adapters and accessories you can use to turn a simple audio interface setup into a science project lol. Please consider subscribing!
So the camera adapter doesn’t provide power to the interface? smh And the Focusrite adds looks so much more clutter-free. Thank you for the video, it answered my question perfectly.
Hi. I couldn’t get the same usb hub as you, but I got one with very similar features. Set everything up as you do, but the audio interface still blinks and nothing works
This does not work on the 2i2. It does not recognize power, the same as if you were to plug it into any random usb not on a computer. Any ideas work around for that?
Watching this late and I apologize if it's a stupid question, but if I plug in my headphones and mic with my audio interface like you did, it'll work for making phone calls as well, right?
Do all those steps disappear now that the iphone 15 has USB-C? I'm thinking if I get a USB TO USB-C adapter I can go from audio interface right into the iphone 15 without having to buy the TenDak USB Hub?
Some of them yes… The older interfaces need more power than what an iPhone can produce. I would get a USB-C hub that way you can connect your interface as well as pass through charge your iPhone 15. Please consider subscribing!
Have the feeling the usb hub is extra or not necessary, if you come from the interface straight to the adapter and the lightning to the wall should work, just an opinion
Yes, while that does work it allows for other accessories such as a usb keyboard, usb mouse, or even a flash or hard drive to connect simultaneously to your iPhone.
My interest is purely using my focus rite to my iPhone as an audio player only. I don’t want to record. I want to play music from my iPhone > Focusrite>mixer>speakers. I do it now but with a computer. Possible with your set up?
Can use your set up to play Apple Music from your iPhone out of your monitors? I heard these interfaces act as amplifiers to your speakers making them louder. I drive semi’s for a living & I hooked up my Yamaha monitors inside so I can jam loud
Focusrite has left and right balanced outputs on the rear of the Scarlett. I’m not sure as far as amplifiers to make them louder though. Please consider subscribing!
Hi Mate, thanks for an excellent video here. One quick question. Do I need to buy special headphones? I got JBL at my place but not with the lead, or I should buy Scarlett?? I got Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 at my home? TIA.
Hi Thank you so much for the informative video. I have a question would this work for the interface of Komplete audio 1? Thank you so much in advance;))
when i plug it in and turn it on and everything, there’s a lot of glitchy sounds coming through it, and when i record in garageband too. when i use it with my computer on bandlab, though, it works perfectly fine
Majority of what i see is only in garageband but can this work if i use acapella app? So i can record both video and audio? Thats what i normally use when covering a song but with my apple headset before now i wanna use scarlett for it. Hope i can get answers ❤
No, because the audio interface will be getting power from the USB hub which is also getting power from the wall. If you didn’t have the USB hub, then your audio interface would be bus-powered meaning that it would power off of whatever device it’s plugged into as well as receive and send data through the USB cable.
how do you feed the usb hob if you are outdoor, is it enough or it is too much power comming from a power bank with 5v 2amp? I am asking because i don't assume the risk to power my focussrite interface from different power source in order to not cause any fault to it.
I just want to listen to music from my iPhone to my interface would this work also But instead of using the headphone input I have monitor speakers connected in the back of the interface
I’m not going to say that you “can’t”, but I know the interface turns on when you open GarageBand and turn on monitoring. Haven’t tried listening to Apple Music or RU-vid using my interface myself. Please consider subscribing!
I was trying to bypass the hub and go interface straight into the adapter using usb bus + lightning cable in the adapter for power. Not working. Does it not work without a powered hub? Thanks
It will work with the (authentic) Apple USB 3 Camera adapter as well as a lighting cable into a wall plug. The beauty about having a USB Hub though is that you could plug in multiple USB Devices (MIDI Controllers, USB Drives, Keyboards and even a Mouse). Please consider subscribing!
Hi thanks for the video, ive done the exact setup and it works, and if i turn off the usb button and on again it works however when i disconnect the phone and try to reconnect the phone it doesnt power on, and when i try to unplug everything and do the setup again it doesnt work, but after some time that passes it works again, whats that about? is the USB hub not good enough?
Not sure, but it doesn’t sound like a bad USB Hub because you said it works to begin with. I would just follow the video step by step every time you use your audio interface with your iPhone.
Never tried it with an Android, but I would go through all the steps and instead of using an Apple USB 3 Camera Adapter, I would try using a USB A to USB C adapter.
If you have a condenser microphone make sure you hit the “48V” button for phantom power. Otherwise, backtrack all of your connections and check for any defective equipment (try switching out XLR cables, USB cables and even microphones).
Hey so I’ve got this set up down but when I’m listening to my audio playback on headphones after recording a video, it’s only recording one side of my audio instead of both. Anyway to go about this?
Theoretically, this could be used with the new iPhone 15's right? Just have to account for the new usb-c ports. Also, could you use this setup for for RU-vid/TikTok/Streaming?
I use this exact same set up for my livestreams. On one side I hear my instrument and the other my vocals. Is there a way to make it where I Can hear from both sides?
Thanks for the reply! So even on my iPhone I have to go to GarageBand and set the settings? Because when I record on GarageBand through my Mac it works perfect fine. It’s just when I livestream with my phone.
Did it work for you? I tried going into settings and changing to mono. Both ways only come in one side of my headphones and car stereo. Not that people are going to listen to my stuff in headphones and car stereos! 😆 still slightly aggravated that I can’t figure it out.
hello can u use this with streaming on facebook w other people? ive noticed that u cant have a separate input and output w a rode mic and bluetooth heaphone.
I have a Rode NT1-A, it requires 48v phantom power. My apple adapter didn’t work with it. There’s a warning that says power is not enough. So i bought a 65w adapter. But i still get that warning. Should I buy usb 3.0 power hub in order to get the mic working? I can record with my PC but I couldn’t figure out how to record with my iphone. Can you help?
Maybe one of you brilliant people can help me. I am trying to run my Scarlett 2i4 into an iPhone XR. I have the camera adapter. I have the interface plugged into the camera adapter and the adapter also plugged into the wall. The issue is that the green USB light isn’t coming on and the 48V phantom light just keeps flashing on and off. I assume this means that the wall power isn’t strong enough to power the interface. I’ve tried using both the standard iPhone block and the iPad block, and neither seem to work to make the green light come on. I would try to use a USB hub like many have suggested, but I don’t know if that would work either if connecting it directly to the wall isn’t working. Maybe there’s something with how much power a powered USB hub provides that makes it work better than simply connecting it to the wall. All I’m trying to do is use my Shure PGA27 mic to capture audio for Instagram. Any input would be appreciated!
I would try a USB Hub if that’s the case. Also know that older iPhone’s can’t standalone power as good as newer iPhones do. If that doesn’t work I would test a different microphone or interface. Also, make sure you have the authentic Apple USB3 Camera Adapter. Please consider subscribing!
Hello thanks for wonderful video. Is usb hub compulsory. Can we directly connect audio interface to this usb adaptor and connect this adaptor to iPhone. ? Thanks for the wonderful video
This worked for me about twice, now my focusrite flashes on really fast and then just turns off and no buttons will work. It only works on a laptop or computer now, any thoughts on what might be wrong?
It should work with BandLab, have a microphone and headphones connected (doesn’t have to be Focusrite). If you follow the same setup in the video, make sure the USB light/power light on the audio interface is illuminated.
