Great little tutorial !!! Helps a lot. BIG THUMBS UP For everybody that's going to use external power for powering up the led stripe ( i used 60 led's) while powering up the arduino via usb connection to PC: Make sure to connect ground between arduino and power supply in order to prevent uncontrolled flickering of the led's. I had a hard time (about an hour) figuring out....
Nice vid, but there are few discrepancies. Brightness (FastLED.setBrightness()) takes 8bit value, so it's from 0 to 255. And you don't need to set it every time in loop, just once in setup(), since it's max brightness for all LEDs.
How many leds could resist just the arduino? I want to work with a led panel of that kind of leds but idk if I need just the arduino or if I would need a external power supply (I want it for a cosplay :c)
Good video. Being a beginner, I normally copy and paste the arduino sketch from the description box. Is it written anywhere to try out the video lesson? Thanks :)
Hi nixart, we make tutorial pages of our RU-vid videos on our website. Check out our tutorials page at : brainy-bits.com/tutorials/ to get the schematic and more information on this tutorial. Thanks for watching!
Love the videos but when you break away to show the code the screen shot is very small and hard to read along on mobile. Have tried on pc, since I watch most of my videos on my phone.
theworkenman Thank you for the heads up. I will look at different ways to do the code portions so it is more readable on smaller screens. Thanks again for watching!
+JonTheChron Hi, well each pixel (led) when all 3 colors are on consume around 60mA (20mA per color: Red, Green, Blue) so unless you light all the colors (= White) then the Amperage would never be 60mA all the time. But if you want the absolute maximum Amperage then it would be: 288 leds * 60mA = 17.28Amps. But like I said that's all White all the Time! Depends on what you do with the LED's. Hope it helps... Thanks for watching!
"doesn't really matter" ofc it does! not only the B version is brighter, more efficient, has a better heat dissipating capabilities, it is also cheaper from china than the normal version from china.
I know this is a rant, and I expect I will enjoy the rest of the video, but no one I know pronounces L.E.D. as "led". It was immediately disruptive to the narrative; so much so, I had to write this after only its second use in the video. I know there is a fight over "GIF" (I am a "jif" man myself, as its easier on the ears, more unique, and the version used by those who created the format), but I was not aware there was an alternative way to pronounce L.E.D. running around. It has been pronounced "eL Ee Dee" for over half a century. Who began using "led" and why? Who actually thinks its ok to create a new homophone for lead? Most successfully pronounced acronyms, like NASA, RADAR, SCUBA, and BASIC, are not pronounced monosyllabically, and are not easily confused with common words. Some even make the successful transition into English as a standalone word. And even awkward ones, like POTUS, are unique enough not to be confusing. Those few acronyms that are pronounced monosyllabically, such as DOS, ROM, RAM, or GIF, are usually contentious or easily misheard, and never make that transition to a common word. Usually they still succeed as they are unique in their context, but are often clearer in a narrative expanded into their full or generic form. For myself, clarity is the rule-of-thumb. It's like people are purposely shooting for ambiguous or lazy. You don't hear people say "ick" for IC, "oss" for OS, or "it" for IT, and L.E.D. is no clearer when pronounced as "led". The first use of "led" in this video had me thinking there was some kind of lead packaging or lead solder involved. Lead is a homophone that already exists in electronics and so using "led" is not protected by context.
Hi! First I'd like to say that I really enjoyed your rant. Once I started reading it I couldn't stop until I reached the end. Very well written, it felt like reading a short story. Since my first language is French I sometime make mistakes with the pronunciation of some English words, and in this case create new ones... Anyway your rant about my pronunciation of L.E.D. is well received and I will be more careful in the future. Thank you for watching and for that great comment. Cheers!
