Contact Kevin @ computerhelpmad...
When building a desktop computer you need to connect the power light, power switch, reset switch, hard drive activity light, a speaker for error code indication, front panel USB ports and front panel audio. So this video will show you how to install them with help from your motherboard user guide. If you need help with any of these connection or anything else to do with computers leave a comment or contact me through computerhelpmad...
Note:If your not sure which wire is the positive? All you need to do is check the back of the connector that's attached to the two wires and you will see an arrow which indicates the positive wire on that connector (This is shown on the hard drive connection in the video). You can also check with the manual that came with your desktop tower unit or check the tower unit manufacturers website.

Thanks for the input on my OLD Dell update on the Dell front panel to my new ASUS H97M-plus motherboard w/32gb Dimm DDR3 . I removed the little green Dell switch and removed the Dell wires and connectors and installed new I.D. bit cables. (like your video) I had to adjust the ID of the new LED holes in the front panel with a step drill so the switch would fit. And then add a small square hole for the reset switch into the front panel and the setup was complete. Now I need to add the speaker ID bit cable jack. Today I'll be installing a new atx 750 watt power supply, a R/W DVD, 250GB HD, and the old HD with the new connection to Strata cable. You have been a great help. Thanks for your service. I'll keep watching for new stuff. I am trying to build a 3D Design graphic system for CAD/CAM to CNC setup. Thanks Dezrat.

@KevinColleranCHME 10 лет назад
Hi Rashid, first check your audio jack is plugged into the correct jack plug, this plug is "green". the next thing to check is did you build the pc yourself if you did then check that you plugged in the audio connector to the correct internal connection on the motherboard. Last thing to check is test the rear audio jack first that is again the green jack plug then see if you have audio. If you think they are all ok then uninstall driver and restart your pc that will install default audio.

yes JFP2 are usually for "extra" front panel connection, if you're case does not have extra connections, then that's fine. so just connect up the connections you do have. hope that clears it up for you.

Hi Vipul, the only thing i can tell you to do is get the manual from the motherboard manufacturers website and find the the connections correct orientation in that manual. Now if the reset switch works sometimes then you have it connected correctly and what's wrong is that the switch is not functioning properly ok.

re-use is always a good idea, you do not need all the connectors you have mentioned above like power led, but speaker is important. Check the motherboard it may have one built in, but you can get away without having it. The thing is if there is a problem with your system you will not here any beeps that can indicate that there is a problem without having a system speaker it's purpose is to i beep a few times telling you there is a problem. you should get one for pennies and just plug into mobo

I will be using the same HDD and motherboard the only things I will be replacing are the case and the power supply along with an additional GPU so the windows OEM licence should be intact. Thanks for the tip about trailing the pin colours back to the switches, I managed to use a screw driver to figure out the pwr pins by shorting the two that turned it on so that should hopefully not be a problem. I'll just have to figure out which one is the the HDD led once I get the new case and psu.
@KevinColleranCHME
@KevinColleranCHME 11 лет назад
Hi Hairy Hiore, usually they are only crimped in the front panel and should be left that way, the positive and negative of those 3 wires coming from your front panel and place them on the positive and negative on the motherboard you will need to get a manual for the motherboard and you can leave that third wire alone, because you have to look at it this way PWRLED is like a switch so their can only be two wires connected try that first get the manual from manufacturers website and connect

@KevinColleranCHME
@KevinColleranCHME 11 лет назад
This is just a hunch, but i think if there are on lights coming on check the power supply there is usually a switch on the back of the power supply it maybe in the off position, failing that it's possibly a faulty power supply. a power supply is a very reasonably priced component it may be a good idea to get it checked first before you start replacing the motherboard. hope that helps...
@KevinColleranCHME
@KevinColleranCHME 10 лет назад
Hi ShoTzVlogz, There has to be something that indicates what the positive side is maybe a little black arrow on the back of each connector at least or maybe the color of the cables... you should refer to the motherboard manual to get that information it will be in that manual...

Kevin Colleran This part has always confused me as well. How do you determine positives and negatives? The manual doesn't say anything about it, just where to plug them in. The video explains it very well, but all motherboards are different and these cables are sometimes different colours.
@KevinColleranCHME
@KevinColleranCHME 9 лет назад
I agree with you! They are types of front panel connectors with no standard way of installing them! But in my experience all connectors in the front panel of a case have little arrows indicating that it's the positive! that's a standard that is adhered to here in Europe. And as far as i recall it's that same in the USA! Hope that helps! Here is a link to a video I done a about a 18 months showing you the arrows on the connectors if you want to have a look the front panel connections are shown @ 38 minutes into the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RGw8N4rG3AI.html

Kevin Colleran Thanks! I live in the UK by the way. :P I knew about the arrows, but the manual and the mobo did not identify the positives and negatives for everything, though that was before I realised "grounded" was basically the negatives. I got the PC working in the end. :)
@KevinColleranCHME
@KevinColleranCHME 9 лет назад
Ya It can be a bit off putting, the way the manual identify the connections, the companies just don't care all they want is your money! It's nice when you can work it out for yourself though! I find that there is nothing we can't do if we just put our minds to work! Good for you bud!

as long as you have the power switch connected properly, so just check to make sure it is connected to power switch connector on JFP1. now if the computer will not turn on some of the other components connected to the motherboard are not connected correctly or sitting in their slots correctly. so check processor fan, memory(RAM), power supply has to connectors make sure they are connected. basically double check everything that connected to motherboard it's the only way to make sure...

Hi Shade, which connections are you talking about? generally speaking you will have to buy a new case to suit your motherboard, but their are adapters for almost all connections take it to a PC store and they will tell you what you need to do. You could give me more info about the connection and I'll see what i can do for you. info like what it's connecting to on the motherboard and area it's attached to in the case...
@KevinColleranCHME
@KevinColleranCHME 11 лет назад
Hi Sniffynicholas, Yes it will, but i take it that you have not purchased the case yet? if so make sure front panel connectors of the case you are thinking of buying will fit the front panel connections on the motherboard, by checking with case "manufacturers website" also check to see if your present power supply has enough power for the new discrete card this is very important also. Another point worth a mention here is the "case form factor" is it the same as the Acer motherboard.

Yes Phoenix there is a huge difference between standard dell/hp and semi/professional boards and huge differences your operating system is not licensed to that board, specifications are usually higher on these boards and they will usually last longer. This is a huge subject and one that I will be extensively covering on my new site. The differences are not complicated but I could not explain them all on a comment here. You can get this information on build your own PC websites, hope that helps

Yes this is the problem it's either a motherboard or power supply issue and a age of your PC is the key, but if you want and there is no other problem you can install a pci usb controller and connect that to your front panel connector it will do the exact same job as the usb header on the motherboard.

The only issue is this annoυing little power loss. Ι have already installed a USB 3.0 PCI Host controller and i use the 2 usb ports from it and it is much better!! I just wanted to know if I increase the voltage to have no issues at all. Anyway, thank you very much for your time and advices.

I'm in the process of stripping out a Lenovo Motherboard from a small case and putting it into a new custom case. The problem I could see happening is that the front panel power switches and led's are not marked or mentioned in the manual because they are connected through one cable to the front panel for that specific case. Do you think I would be able to get the motherboard to switch on still just through a process of elimination through the pins? Thanks.

Right so, you will find the motherboard model number on the motherboard the number will be in big bold numbers and letters usually white in color. it's not possible to tell where they are connected without the manual. so "make" and "model" numbers for the Case and Motherboard are required in order for you to figure out where these cables are connected on the motherboard.

You can go to the manufactures website and download your motherboard manual there. The model number for your motherboard is printed on the motherboard usually somewhere in the middle of the board.
