How To Connect Handrail at an Angle to a Newel Post Using the ZIPBOLT Angled Railbolt 

I've used these products all over the balustrades in our 50+ year old home. Nothing lasts forever, but but these are cheap, easy and really strong. (My 3 year old grandson can hang on them, and he does.) Great for newel posts. Read the instructions carefully. Most are common sense, but, like all projects, think every aspect through in advance. Good luck to the next people who buy our house. They will not have a clue as to how everything holds together.

great video. Nobody has covered the tricky part though of fixing the other end once one end is in place.

VERY COOL!

The upper connection needs the Zipbolt Angled SLIPFIX rail bolt - before ordering only the (lower ) angled railbolt mentioned.

I am currently installing a handrail using several of the Zip bolt products. I would also recommend watching the actual zip bolt videos because this guy has left out some significant steps and measurements. Not saying that his way doesn’t work but the actual instructions and videos are slightly different. Also the paddle bit that comes with the hole drilling jig is garbage. I would suggest investing in a 1” forstner bit for easier more accurate drilling with no chip out.

just nail your piece and drill a 1/2 hole, Screw it in place and place your 1/2 inch plug

What about attached round handrail, or any surface with not a flat base? Not sure how I would do that

Thanks for this, seems pretty straight forward, but I have yet to see how the other end attaches. Would you show this? How to attach the SECOND end, with the first end attached.

How will fix the handrail with these fixings at the top end? I mind both side .How will slide inside both together ?

The directions are different than what you show in the video, the 1” hole according to the directions says to drill 2 1/2” back from the center of the 3/8 hole after the angle is cut. Your video shows marking the 1” hole before you cut the angle 2 1/2” back from the end. Not sure which is correct?

How do you use this product between two newel posts that are very thick, solid and already in place?

Cut the 1" hole on the railing a 1/4" closer than the instruction say to save yourself some headache

This looks really good until you try it out. The drilling angle had to be precise. You also have to drill into the rail almost 3 inch. 2 and a half inch will not be enough.

Thickness of the post is 3 inches. Why would you instruct to drill the 1/4 inch hole 2 1l2 to 3 inches deep ?

So tell me how you get the other end of the handrail in position!! not possible.

I swear I wish this would have been in ANY of my local big box lumber stores I would have bought it... this other crap(what i had to buy) is a joke. nice product but does not seem to be widely available or at least not in Southern Ohio.

What is the best way to measure the length of the rail? I'd also like to see how you attach the other end like Joe Mama states below.

What about the top of the rail? That angle is going to be small...

Mine works too. I used the Woodprix plans and performed it without any problems.

I did it myself. I used Woodglut woodworking plans for this.

On WoodPrix you can find excellent plans for woodworking.

Stodoys scripts contain most of the woodworking plans you can find.

You can learn more about it on woodprix website I think.

zipbolts are crap, ive gone through 3 of them and each one broke at the joint or the "spinning" bolt stripped and broke. once its on it will never come off. its crappy a chinese product
