For past several days been looking for a solution how to play GT 4 in 1080i, since I've played it over component cable back days and wasn't satisfied cause there were few missing lines and rows besides occasional flickering. So explain me, only thing that I finally need is PS1/PS2 to HDMI adapter that will thru Full HD signal (game itself has 1080i so there is no need for mClassic upscaler (only if I want it to play in 4K), right? I would appreciate if you answer me where can be found those gadgets, price and some explanation for my decade problem. Greetings from Serbia! ;)

Another setup would be PS2 Component Cable -> Retrotink 2x Pro Multiformat (with line doubling on with smoothing on) -> MClassic HDMI upscaler

@mouhammedhassine not sure if you figured yours out, but I used retrovision hd components through an ossc. The ps2 in general is 480i resolution with a 4:3 aspect. Very few games used widescreen and progressive scan.

Hmm… Will I need an additional hdmi adapter to get other retro consoles such as GameCube, Xbox and Wii on current 4K TVs that didn’t come with any component and composite adapters??

I have the exact same set up. What you also should have tried is going into the settings on the ps2 and change full screen to 4:3. Set adapter to 4:3 and the mclassic on the green light setting. Try it!!

I noticed you did not access the RBG / component option In the system configuration. I know for a fact that many of these HDMI adapters will NOT accept the component signal.

this adapter didn’t use the RGB cords for conversion, it just used USB and HDMI for visual transmission.

Very nice, thanks for this video. I noticed that if you rather playing on full screen you should remove the mClassic device. I bought a cheap hdmi converter and it doesn’t have a feature to stretch the image on the entire screen which is a disadvantage in my opinion. I’ll have a look on this device you’ve recommended.

Do I need to change the gameplay to smooth in the system configuration? There's reason why PS2 is the highest selling system of all time & rank one of the best game systems of all time along with SNES. These were video games; today you play movies

I might be 2 years late, but I recently pulled out my slim and just can't stand the blurriness. I hope this 2 piece combo is still valid today, or I just threw $103 down the drain. We'll see

@wizology_ it does work to a great extent, but it also does depends on the setting of your recording software. Because I notice if you go live, there can be lag spikes from very often to a minimal.

I have a modded ps1 and a modded ps2, they're pretty much just shelf display objects right now. Duckstation or PCSX/PCSX2 is the surefire way to get the best quality from all your ps/ps2 classics. Retro consoles are a waste of time.

I got the same hdmi adapter just no mclassic but my tv makes a hissing noise with this setup. It isn’t too loud but I can hear it at times. I contacted the manufacturer but they said it’s “normal and won’t mess up tv speakers” idk if I should take their word for it. And my tv is definitely not the issue because it’s an LG C1 that works well with everything else.

You have to use a 1080p tv on down. 4k has too many pixels.

Yeah people don’t realize 4 k mons or Tvs will kill the visual so right now im looking at getting an old mon for the ps2 with max res of 1080p . Imagine how harder its going to be to get these things… oooo Im not looking forward to it…

That's a lot of cables. Back then "Wide screen" sometimes meant stretching the screen making it look wide and fuzzy. I will keep playing at 4:3 but I am considering the other component now.

Unless it’s a decent hdmi solution for ps2 don’t bother with the Mclassic it won’t do anything if you use a retrotink with the Mclassic it will look pretty good

I have the alternative cables for the hdmi, but I don’t have a mclassic upscaler. My ps2 games work well with only the hdmi adapter but not my ps1 games on my modern tv with the ps2. Will the upscaler fix my ps1 games because once I boot it up, I get to the ps1 logo but then lose sound and picture a bit after?

Might not be a huge upgrade for PS2, but absolutely worth it on PS3. Might as well use it for PS2 if you already have one.

I just purchased the LevelHike cable, does it delay the signal when first starting up the PSX/PS2 for everyone else too? Last about 3 seconds so it doesn't catch the full startup.

I own that same Level Hike cable with the Mclassic and noticed some odd lines on my Samsung HD Tv screen as if had some satellite issue but that’s when you use it on Retro mode (blue light) and on mode 2 (green light) with the Mclassic. Yet that doesn’t happen when I’m using a PC monitor and no lie it looks 10 times better on the monitor but I’m using a Japanese Fat ps2. When I use a Zuzong adapter those odd lines are gone but that one sucks to me

I haven't had that issue before. I've heard that if some game discs are corrupt or "dirty," the screen won't load past the logo.

Will the upscaler make it possible to play ps1 games on the ps2, on a modern tv? I've already got a ps2 to hdmi converter which works great for ps2 games, but wont play ps1 games :/

The reason that usually happens is just you need an adaptor setup that give a composite cable image not component (some adaptors do both). check the description on the adaptor or literally instead use an AV to composite phono cable plugged into a related hdmi adaptor, the combined ones give you more versatility for better image quality from ps2 games though. Anyway reason why you need that is ps1 games aren’t compatible with component video output

@@jeangrey2788 the mclassic will definitely make the image notably sharper through upscaling (speaking from observed experience after getting one after watching this video) For initially converting the PS2 video output to HDMI I’ve tried a few options and if you can afford it I’d highly recommend a device called McBazel GCS-C (set its output to 480p) and let the mclassic do the upscaling. The device will automatically remove interlace tv intended lines on sprites and other graphics that otherwise still appear and can make games look weird And a good versatile PS2 AV cable to go with it like the Kaizo one (which I’m using)

Blue light on mclassic means it's in 4:3 mode fleck it to middle light turn green is upscale mode and when u push it were the light is off it's bypass mode u had it on 4:3 mode

It really depends on what mode is used on the mClassic. One’s better than the other. Blue light - 4:3 games Green light - 16:9 games There’s really no reason on why you should use bypass mode. With this mode, it’s like if you’re using just an HDMI cable.

It's the same thing. The blue light is 4.3 for older games and systems that originally were 4.3. The mClassic is still doing the upscale and anti-aliasing on it but it's keeping the original 4.3 aspect ratio. That's so older games don't look stretched out as they are not meant to be stretched. That is unless the game had widescreen mode in it's options like Vice City does. If he used wide screen mode in game then yes he should have switched the mClassic to the middle green light. Instead he is playing the game on normal 4.3 so needs to keep the mClassic to 4.3. Again both modes are doing the same thing but classic mode is meant to keep the original aspect ratio. Also yes I have an mClassic to confirm that.

Is it me or does the mClassic make color look a little washed out? I was trying mine out on my original Xbox but switching the mClassic off and on again making sure it's in classic mode. One thing I noticed is while not much the games were less colorful when on compared to off. I tried Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City and noticed it. It's not horrible and is easy to forget about it when playing but trying to compare it I noticed that. Still it removes jagged edges quite good so $100 it's worth it but I still need to try my PS2 games. PS2 games though I only have a backwards compatible fat PS3 both a CECHA01 and CECHE01 model aka 60gb and 80gb PS3 so those already have upscale and smoothing option for PS2. I am just wondering how much better the image might be with the mClassic and PS3's PS2 settings together. Guess I will see tonight as I just got mClassic and only tried it on Xbox before work.
