Just spent two hours trying to get the TR8s to pop up on the audio input device dropdown. Just realised I'd downloaded the TR8 driver, not the TR8s driver. Don't make the same mistake as me everybody. BTW this is a super helpful video, much thanks.
Hello My man, thanks for the vid! But I'm running into a problem over here, the audio of my TR8 is peaking at -14, at most channels. I followed all your steps, my DAW is Ableton and I got everything up to date!

I did everything just like you did, and I have sound... But when i pass the sound trough Ableton it changed the sound.. it's like I have two basses with 10ms of difference or some kinda of delay.. I don't know.. And this happens to all Audio tracks.. (Solved, the problem was the Buffer size) I will leave the comment just in case someone has the same problem

Yes I think you have to use it as the soundcard. I saw someone explaining this earlier in a comment on a different video. If you connect your MIX output 1/2 from the TRS into your Focusrite you will be able to hear everything coming out of your monitors

Hello there, the way i have my preferences in ableton is I could only choose the drive, which would be ASIO in my case, and the audio device, not split in to input and output devices. So i can do all this routing but the audio device would be the TR8S in order for me to set the Ext In for each channel, were it's normally set to 'Focusrite USB AUDIO'm so at the end I cant hear any signal i only see it coming through in the channels.. Even if i have the usb audio set to INDiv in my TR8S.. I hope I explained this is in a clear way and any help would be much appreciated now, thanks :) *TR8S plugged in with USB cable to the PC, audio plugged into one of my soundcard's inputs running through the MIX OUT L/MONO on my TR8S
i have same problem andd i think maybe it would be a problem with the interace. I have a Motu track 16 interface wich to me looks proesional and then this problem. I try like everything about, for more than a year now and still could listen live. I´m looking for an apollo twin now and maybe i finally resolve and discover what the hack happens. If not, maybe a Mac will be the solution
Really frustrating for live jams not being able to then monitor in your other hardware, such as synths, when setting the audio driver to TR8s, is there a way around this?
I just bought one of these on the weekend and the issue I've found with brining in each instrument is that each one is only mono, where as the MIX out will honour Pans and reverbs of each instrument in stereo, this is a massive over sight on Rolands behalf. If anyone knows of a workaround please reply.
Thanks! When you do this technique do you get just the dry signal from each drum track? Do you also get their tune, decay, and CTRL changes? And what about the Reverb, Delay, and Master FX: will those only come through the Master channel?
Superb video… So simple and EVEN I could follow(I’m a newbie!!) I’ve another favour/question to ask if you…. I have a td3 and td3 mo that I run into the Ext. In and they are now 2 mono channels… I use the tr8s as the audio interface,BUT I can’t get the 2 td3’s separated into 2 separate channels to record them separately…any ideas?? I’m probably not making much sense am I?? 😆😆😆

hey, its not showing tr8s in preferences, instead it says IN1-2, all the way to 11. i've downloaded the driver as well, and i've selected individual in the tr8s under utility. any thoughts?
This only seems to work if the TR8S is the only thing you have connected to your computer, since you select the TR8S as your main audio device in Ableton preferences. Is it possible to accomplish this setup if the TR8S is connected to a USB device like the Traktor A10, along with other devices?
when I plug in my tr8s into my computer via usb it shows up in apple settings but I can't select it as an input in abelton, does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks for the vid man! Worked like a charm! My interface is an apollo twinx & i'm trying to record my moog in the project you showed me. On Ableton, when i switch the Audio Input Device from "Tr-8s" to "ApolloTwin" to record the Moog, it emits a high screeching sound even if my nothing is plugged in. Does something have to be done before i switch it the Audio Input Device?
Only way is by recording the master out and muting every channel other than the ne you want. eg, I record all the channels individually but if i want a delay or reverb on the snare I then record the master mix with all the channels but the snare turned down. Pain in the arse. I loathe my TR-8s, never buying Roland again
thank you for your tutorial, it works for me but there is a problem when I press the instpad of the tr-8s while being in ableton the sound of the insturments is doubled !! you do not have the solution of this problem ????
Not sure what happened but when I looked up at ableton, after leaving my initial comment...found all the instruments armed on both groups. Should both groups be armed for recording or just one of them?
Hey, man, thanks a lot for the video; was very helpful. I got Ableton to record all TR-8S instruments separately. However, when I play back what I've recorded the volume is much lower than what I initially hear when I'm recording. The wave forms that I see are also much less defined than yours are. Is there a way to fix this? I feel I may just be overlooking something.
you may have been recording with the monitoring option turned on causing a double signal. I do my clips in only 1 channel and 1 cut turning on every single master volume knob of each sample individualy with a 4 step kick pattern at the begin and the end so i can corrige the lattency using the warping function and then copy-paste for the arrangement
Are you getting any latency when you record when you set it up this way? Saw another video where someone advises to have the monitor set to off to get less latency, one group on auto and the other on off?!
While recording your sounds from the tr8s, are you using your tr9s as an interface or do you use a different audio interface`, I struggle to assign the tr8 to an audio input while the audio output is my soundcard (audio interface) any tip for this?
Sorry I hadn’t been on RU-vid for a while, the reason I duplicate them is because I have found that there is less lag when recording which means the recording is more synced / on tempo
Nice vid man. But i have an issue, i cant get any effects like delays, reverbs and some others.. I can hear them but when recording all the sounds go raw. Do you know why this happens?
Only master out on TR has FX, individual channels don't, I despise the bloody thing. Never got it syncing with Ableton so going to CEX with the fucker now
@@iamciscoo Thanks man but no problem, i discovered the issue. I dont use an interface, only a USB cable so i cant record any effects. Only the tune, decay and a lil more. With an interface i can record everything, i tested it out

hi both, I _think_ I have the same question! I'd like to try out connecting the TR8S to my Focusrite, then from my Focusrite to my laptop (instead of directly from the TR8S to my laptop). Was wondering if there was any quick/easy way to do this + if you had any developments?
I created an Aggregate Device in Audio MIDI setup that combines my Focusrite and the TR8S. Now all the drum tracks and synths can be recorded together.
Hi Thank you for your video , i understand you opened 8 different audio channel for each elements of the tr8s. So what about the midi? I want to see the midi notes of each element, is it possible? When we connect to tr8s to ableton with usb , how it is possible to record rhytm both midi notes & audio?? Thanks
That what I thought he was doing when he duplicated them, eg one for audio feed and a group for midi, still wondering why he duplicated them, wouldn't that be 2 sources of audio from both groups, making it louder in general?
I've 2 questions... What is the reason behind duplicating the group?? Do you know what settings I need to have to be able to use my Push 2 to play/sequence the Tr8s? Thanks

Hi thanks great video! How do you record the drums? Per audio via mix pot or usb midi - per usb midi everything is a bit quiet? Tell me about timing - do you have to use usb midi and sync or just enter the same bpm in Ableton and TR8S ?
