Excellent advice ! I’ve got a viola gig in the morning and I’m using an old Passac equaliser preamp to warm the sound and to make the signal a little larger. One day I’ll look for an effects pedal😉

Here in Europe most violinists are using DPA 4099 mics. They sounds great and natural and are not bad resisting feedback. You can probably get away with it even if you are playing with not such a loud drummer. For a louder band setting, I use two channels: mic that is mostly used for Front of house sound, and pick up that goes into my amp (AER attached to a mic stand, closer to my ear). Sometimes the FOH Engeneer will mix both signal together. The downside to this setup however is using effects, you can only put them on your pick up channel. If you are using a lot of effects I would use only a pick up for louder bands ….

The type of pickup one has on their violin has a big bearing on their sound. Passive, active or go with a magnetic pick system.

Also you should be careful with the cheaper wireless systems, they can sound terrible. In my opinion better stay wired unless you can invest into the more expensive once
