In this video I will show you how to convert your Traxxas Stampede 4x4 into a Hoss

Thanks for doing that dude. I love my Stampede VXL and was wondering about doing this, just to refresh the look. Getting rid of the self destructing Stampede bodies would be good as well. 🤝

Cool build! For mine, I actually did it ultra-cheap. Got a used Stampede 4x4 and Rustler on Ebay for $300, both had bad motors. Fixed and sold the Rustler, got like $120 back out of that after replacement parts, shipping, and fees. Then I bought a Hobbystar 3664 2950kv motor for the Stampede, and all the parts for the Slash ultimate center diff, also MIP driveshafts (only the rears, it came with the fronts). All in, after selling the Rustler my Hoss was a bit over $300 and it's a ton of fun even on the Stampede chassis. It does everything the Hoss does, killer wheelies for distance, bunny hops, flips. For diffs I went 100k F/R and 1mil center. Running 15/54 gearing, and stock Talon tires. I actually have room to go up 1 or 2 teeth on the pinion, but the 15 was just what I had laying around so I used it.

Thank you I try to do the same I buy them new and immediately upgrade them then sell the parts I took off to offset the cost. My newset build not on the channel yet is a losi LMT i bought used with broken shocks. Then I bought an upgraded trx4 just for the nice electronics to swap into the lmt then ill sell it as a roller.

I run a 20/50t on my spektrum 80amp 540L 3s stampede 4x4 and she’s gotta be hitting 60+ just have a heat sink and dual fans on my motor rarely overheat unless it’s over 105 here in Phoenix

I put Hoss wheels on my stampede 4x4, dropped the spur gear from a 54 tooth to a 52 tooth, i have no overheating or slipper clutch issues what so ever. Also dropped the body down with jconcepts body mounts. Made the stampede 4x4 even more badass now.

That sounds awesome I always wanted a stampede 4x4 to drive not just for this video. But when I was ready to buy one the Hoss came out so I went that way for my personal RCs. These RCs were parted out and sold after this video. So I never drove the Stampede.

Thank you for the video! I have been wanting to convert my Stampede 4wd VXL into something else, had it 4+ reliable years but ready for something new. After seeing your great video I am considering a Hoss conversion. But the conversion that I would love to see and try is a Rustler 4wd conversion. II haven't found any videos like yours on doing a Stampede 4WD VXL to Rustler 4WD VXL conversion 😢.

Ya thats a conversion I never did do its definitely possible though you would need the chassis, center drive shaft, body, front and rear bulkhead mounts probably the steering links, and a body. Sorry I never thought of that one when I was doing those videos.

Are the arms longer on the hoss or the same as on the stampede, and then only chassis and tires are wider?

The arms are the same width they are better arms on the hoss but the width is the same. Any difference in width would be in the tires and rims.

Stock VXL in the Hoss? Any heat issues? I could not get my VXL to run under 180F on 3s, it was fine on 2s it was geared 9/54. Now looking back, I think the bigger tires I put on it made it run hotter, I couldn't gear it down any further. I ended up Installing a 2650kv motor that was designed for a 1/8th scale car, only had to trim the chassis a little bit and used my sidewinder 4 ESC. I can gear that thing like crazy now on 3s and the motor only gets to 150F no matter what gearing I put in the thing. Its awesome!

@@OverBudgetRC Nice, I like the power of the VXL, but it just heats up a little too much on heavy vehicles. Perfect for my 2wd slash though.

@@VikingDudee ya i have it in my rustler 4x4 but i run stock gearing with stock tires. It's my only rc with a traxxas esc lol everything else ive swap to a hobbywing except my trx4 i went with castle mamba x

So to do this could I just buy a Hoss chassis, Hoss motor, and hoss driveshaft? I just want to have the hoss motor in my stampede 4x4

You could put a hoss motor in a stampede if you can find a spot to relocate the ESC but if you wanted the chassis too you would need a longer body or drill new holes in stampede body but it might be too short.

So theoretically if I wanted a longer wheel base on my stampede all I'd have to do would be swap the chassis and driveline?

I know I've seen people put slash chassis on it

Yes you can just swap those out and you would have to make new hole in the body but it would be longer and should handle better

To convert it you wouldn't save anything this was a video more for people who have a modified stampede but want to upgrade to the hoss without losing the mods. So you don't have to sell your used stampede and then buy a hoss it would be cheaper to convert it. If you bought a new stampede and converted it it would cost more.

There is quite a bit different did you watch the video? On the hoss the chassis is longer, clipless body, bigger motor, better tires, better arms, stronger axles, different bumpers. Im sure there's more just can't think of them right now.

@@OverBudgetRC thank you I ask because I went to rc store in Peoria Illinois and they told me I was stupid because they are basically the same thing they said everything swaps. They made me feel like I don't wanna go back. I think I'll order offline now.

@@ryane1606 i wouldn't go back that sounds terrible it also sounds like they don't know anything about the RCs they sell. If someone came in and was looking at these 2 and the customer asks why is the Hoss more what makes it better they would just say they're basically the same. The customer would just buy the cheaper stampede.
