Episode 58: How to Convert an Epson Eco Tank 8550 to Sublimation - 13x19 Printer. This tutorial starts by unboxing my brand new 13x19 printer - the Epson EcoTank 8550. Then I fill with sublimation ink INSTEAD of the ink that came with it. Then, I walk you through downloading the driver, printer settings, and options for printer profile settings. Finally, I do a few test prints and try out different color settings for a 30oz tumbler print. This printer is a great alternative to the Epson ET 15000.

FYI: The printer is not completely out of warranty just because you put sublimation ink inside of the printer. One should still register the printer. If it's determined that the ink caused an issue with the print head, yes that part is voided. If the printer has an issue with the power or another mechanical problem, it's still covered. Therefore, one should still submit that warranty form to Epson. I'm in the IT world FT.

Not true. With another Epson printer converted to sublimation few months later paper tray failed and contacted Epson for printer replacement, they said no. Why? Even though the paper tray (Paper try sensor damaged) had nothing to do with the ink, warranty was void just because I used sublimation ink. I have gone all the way up to corporate executive and they too still insist the printer warranty is void. They shared warranty policy link and it does state if not using Epson manufactures inks voids warranty to the entire printer, not just the print heads for ink.

you can buy a device that resets the chip in the maintenance cartridge. most are not even half full when the printer tells you it needs a new one. (this may be different for different inks, but you can see by carefully breaking the old one and seeing how full they were.) if you reset the chip and monitor the fullness of the maintenance cartridge you can save lots of money.

If you deselect bidirectional printing you’ll get even better quality prints.
