I have been watching multiple tutorials telling me to do all sorts of different complicated things; This is by far the easiest and it actually WORKS. THANK YOU!
For everyone that is having the issue with having the same file type once converted I found the FIX!!! When choosing the destination file write .mp4 at the end of the file name. You're welcome :) Thnx Simon for the video! Great Job!
If anyone has issue with it not converting to mp4, and the file is still an .flv at the end of the conversion, type ".mp4" after the file name before saving it. FIXED. Great video thanks Simon!
I have been getting some comments from some people who are having issues. Note this video seems to work for most people. If you are having issues here a few things you can try: 1) Make sure the file is actually FLV 2) Make sure you have the conversion settings the same way I have them in this video 3) Make sure your video file is not corrupted in some way before you try to convert it 4) Still not the issue? Try converting the file to a different format and then converting it to MP4. I apologize for not having all the answers. I realize some people have file issues that are unique to them and it is difficult to give advice.
Simon Christian can the file be .mkv to become .mp4? It works but when i passed it to the iPad I don’t have image, it’s everything black, I only have the sound.
jesus you are a savior. obs had all my recordings on FLV, but you can just change it to save to mp4. Anyways, you still saved me days worth of recordings that I wanted to look over.
Glad I could help. And yeah this conversion is not needed for future videos if you change the settings - it is more for people who have already recorded in flv.
Thanks man helped a lot! And to anybody in the comments who's saying you can change the recording type in OBS the advantage to recording an FLV is if your computer crashes or something corrupts in the middle of your recording you don't lose it all...
I know some of you all are like me and this didn't work. The file still stays in FLV format. I have found the solution to that problem. If the file stays in FLV format even after converting or tweaking the settings the chances are it's because it's still being saved with the ".FLV" at the end of the file. Just remember to take the ".flv" off the file before saving. You'd think the program would just correct this by making it ".flv.mp4" like most other programs but that's not the case. Hope that helps someone.
I had 3 hours of footage that me and my friends were having a lot of fun and laughing every second and I was so happy I captured it... then I realized it saved in flv and I didnt understand and was pissed.... you saved my life.
Did this, ended up with a green screen in Adobe software, I changed it to the HD youtube output settings instead, which is probably a differently compressed .mp4, and it worked.
One piece of information I'd like to add here is that when I converted a 1GB file from flv to m4v it stayed the same size. For those of you for whom size matters...and we know for some it does, if you convert it the slower way, it reduces the file size a lot. The 1GB flv file when converted was only 110MB in the m4v format with no loss of quality as far as I could tell. I find this helpful when storing video on an iPad or iPhone to have as small a functioning file size as possible.
You can output to MP4 from OBS but I most of the times forget to change the settings. So this tut is still very helpful. Specially checking the keep original saves ages of time :) Edit: In OBS go to File -> Settings -> Output and under Recording set the Recording Format to MP4 (or something you prefer)
yes you can do this but i have had complications with mp4 files being lost or corrupted with videos over 20 30 mins personally its a safety mechanism to not lose yt videos using the flv format just a warning to homies using the mp4 export setting there is a possibility to have corrupted files
Make sure the file name you save it as has ".mp4" at the end instead of ".flv". You have to manually change this. This is something not mentioned in the video.
i think on obs you can choose what file you get, flv is just faster as i remember but you can give it out as mp 4 but as i recall if your computer is whack it may stuttter
I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out but for OBS you can change the output to MP4 in; file(top left)/settings/output/recording format | and that cuts out this whole step for future videos at least in OBS
CrowePlays true - awesome tip BTW. However I think most of the people who watch this video have already recorded in flv and are looking for a quick way to convert to mp4
Hello everyone and thank you so much for the support. Glad this helped people. If you use OBS regularly and convert files using this method, there is a way where you can change the recording settings in OBS to always record in MP4 instead of FLV format - effectively skipping this conversion process. If you want to know how to do this check out my new video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-brnQkEzLUh4.html
You saved my life. I needed to video capture a project for school and it HAD to be in MP4 and I was so freaked when it saved as a FLV. FUCK WINDOWS but thank you!!
thank you very much because before i had the output file type on obs set to mp4 and the recording would lag to hell when you watch it back even though my pc was running the game smoothly
