There is a RU-vidr named Frederick Dunn and he says the bees will likely propolis those screens and he recommended what you're showing here. Good Stuff easy to do thanks Dave!

I use furring strips for shims over the feeder. They are cheap. I pay less than $3 for a 6 foot strip. I believe they are 1" × 2". No need for fancy joints. Just butt them together, small predrill, and 2 nails on each corner. I built one today in about 15 minutes.

I have taken a hole saw an drilled the screen/ventilation hole and since its a pain to use a hole saw without your starter drill in it I take a small 6"wide x 8" long 3/4" thick plywood scrap (big enough for feeder base to rest flat on)and drill the 1.75" to 2" hole on center of scrap piece and lay it over the ever shrinking inner cover center slots over the years then put rapid feeder in the scrap hole covering opening in inner cover. Just make sure the screened ventilation holes are spaced out far enough away that they don't get covered by your scrap chunk of plywood you drilled hole for feeder. I find it a good way to use some scrap around the wood shop that accumulates and a person doesn't get hurt trying to enlarge the hole in inner cover without the guide bit so hole saw jumps around on you a lot and hate to see anyone get hurt or damage a inner cover beyond repair. A homestead hack per say for safety sake. I think i ordered inner covers from 3 different companies last summer and each came with a different dimensional slot in center of inner cover, couldn't use a bee escape on some of them without filing hole out for escape to snap in correctly. I hate wasted time especially when I have no time to waste..

I called and asked about this a couple weeks ago, they must have said something about this cause here it is! So what I was looking to do was use a migratory lid, put a hole in it for a feeder and then take it out when not needed during the flow and have a plastic plug to cover the hole.

I like this new type of video - it takes a tool and a configuration and shows the way to use it. Looking at the questions, it would seem you might add a section to this type video on future ones: what to do if there is a problem. The rapid feeder is very good, but if the colony is on an angle - there seems to be a problem sometimes. Once you see that, you know can figure out what to do to prevent or remedy that problem. Great video, David. Be well!

If you put a sock on inside the feeder lid with a small plastic cap goes and then put the small plastic cap back on that should eliminate the bees drowning

Why does having substitute ventilation holes in the top board require you to drill more holes in the super or deep going over the top board.

So will the syrup wik down so the bees can reach?..I didnt really follow what you were saying at first.
@richmiller6284
@richmiller6284 3 года назад
Cut the top of the sock, the elastic, enough to reach the bottom of the feeder and the "ramp" that the bees crawl up and down on. It gives them a better surface to grab if they slip into the syrup. I use this method also and found it helps. Sometimes when the bees are packed in there you still get a layer that drowns because they get pushed down. The sock will act as a wick also so the bees don't have to crawl down so far, which will feed more bees at once.

So this is slightly off topic but the essential oil commercial reminded me.. So to those that live in areas where mold and mildew is an issue has anyone used Grapefruit seed oil to kill and keep it gone? I had a leak in my attic and used it there and no more problems!

I do like these feeders but when you tilt your hive for the winter the syrup in the feeder goes to one side...So when that happens the bees push the cup trying to reach the remaining syrup and then it makes the cup come off the standoffs and creates a gap big enough to let the bees through...I wish someone could redesign it with the access hole on one end..this would make it so much better...Every time I open it to fill it I pull out a handful of dead bees.

I have a question for you. *What does it mean if you have one hive where even though the entire entrance is open, they absolutely insist on coming and going only through the far left edge?* I changed bottom boards and added a slatted rack. No change. I finally put a reducer on there and I'm sure it drove them nuts, but they were forced to adapt. LOL

Hello Dave, I am glad to see that you have upgraded your webpages to include sales to persons outside the country. However, there is still a problem in the check-out procedure. The checkout-webpage does mention to enter one's address in order to see the shipping costs, but after doing so, the webpage doesn't display any shipping calculations. Instead, the webpage requires the buyer to enter Credit Card information and "Complete the Purchase" before the Buyer knows what Shipping costs are involved. I would have purchased a Pollen Feeder just now, but without knowing what shipping costs are involved, I cannot commit to completing the transaction. Can you look into this and correct this please? When this is corrected, then I will be purchasing a number of things from you. Thank you, Don

If you drill a super as a cover box can you reuse it as a honey supper later? Would the vent holes need to be covered some way?

You can still use them as supers, if bees don't like the ventilation they will fill it in.

Great video, would like to say my bees i purchased from you are doing great.I have a question thou, this year i purchased 2 nucs and once the bottom brooder box was full i added a second brooder box on top. Recently i went to check on bees and to prepare them for winter. I notice the top brooder boxes i added were not being used and were still empty. The hive is full of bees and appeared healthy. Should i remove second brooder box as i plan on adding a rapid feeder and quilt box for moisture and feel if i place everything on top a empty box the bees in bottom box will not break from cluster and if they do in search of sugar they will be to far away.

@schammond8993
@schammond8993 3 года назад
They come with a plastic cup/cap that fits down over the center cone. That keeps bees from falling off into the syrup. Also it is important to keep them filled. If they empty the bees will crawl under the cup and into the empty feeder. Hope that helps.

Dave, If you also could provide a business email address (not a private email address) in the above comment section of your videos or somewhere in your business webpage, that will be a help to us who wish to do business with you. Maybe I had looked in the wrong places, but I simply could not find any way at all to contact your business anywhere in your website "www. barnyardbees.com". In the USA, this info is usually found under "Contact Us". Here in Germany, such Info is always found under "Impressum" at the bottom of the webpage. Thanks again, Don P.S. Although we desire to communicate with you via email, for privacy reasons, we buyers do not wish to post our private email addresses publicly here in RU-vid, but if we were able to contact your business via your business email address, then our email address would be visible to your employees without being made public, and we would be more easily able to conduct business. I hope this helps too...
