I have never had a rice cooker and I have been married 40 years. I bought one the other day on clearance and I am loving it. Put brown rice in the bottom, chicken and broccoli in the steamer basket. So healthy and fast and good and easy. Thanks for your videos. I have to try many more things in this little wonder.
I'm so glad to hear it. Yes, I went a long time without one. When I finally got a rice cooker, I realized all of the possibilities, as well as just the simple joy of making rice in such an easy way! I LOVE my rice cooker. Definitely worth the small investment! Thanks for sharing & for watching, Marguerite Farrell ! Have a marvelous weekend, Kimberly
Thank you Kimberly I just bought a rice cooker at a thrift store for $8 and friends of mine bought me to 25 lb bags of rice so now I'm eating a lot more than I ever have in my life I never cooked rice before except in my pressure cooker my instant pot and my a little Crock-Pot to show that I could do it and I'm eating it cooking it to eat it I'm living on it more with this pressure gorilla between Roma and has a sealed lid so I can leave it in there for a week if I wanted to I learned it heats in the middle so I scooped it out of the middle when I'm eating it and I can leave it in there little bit of water in there so it heats the water keeps it steamed up I think it is staying there for a week. I had in there for 3 days at least
Certainly, Felixx! We've all been quarantined on some level. That's the best idea. Thanks for stopping by to watch & comment too. Stay safe & healthy out there! Kimberly
Hi kissiq! I put the salt in afterward because it helps the beans cook faster. When you add salt to the water of beans, it can take significantly longer to cook them...not sure the chemistry of it all, but it's true. Kimberly :)
Yes, Peter Pier, you can...you may have to add additional water as it may evaporate, and the beans will take a bit longer, but you can do it. Keep your eye on them.
im so glad i bought a rice cookers it revolutionary for me i dont have to take 1 hr to cook a meal anymore as im in university i just leave it and forget it........wish i had thought of buying one before
***** Me too! I just love them. My rice cooker stays on my counter & I always try to have some rice made, whether to eat it for a side dish or use in a recipe. Thanks for watching & have a Happy Easter! Kimberly
thank you for the video, very informative. i am looking into getting a rice cooker but i want it to be able to steam cook veggies and be able to make chili/stews. this video along with other research will def help me find what's right 4 me.
Good question. 1. The crock pot cooks at a lower temperature, ideally for a loooooong period of time, over the whole day/whole night. 2. Rice cookers sense the amount of water, I believe, and it senses when the rice is done...then, it turns down to a warming temperature for you... However, I don't believe the same premise works with the beans in the rice cooker...You need to babysit a bit more, making sure it's not overflowing, and if you need to add more liquid.
I actually looked up how to cook beans in a rice cooker for my mung beans ha! I have broth for it already for my Filipino soup, do you recommend using that broth to cook it or just regular water since it’ll soak it all up anyway?
I suggest using water, Kayla! When you try to cook beans with salt or anything with acid (i.e. tangy), you run the risk of making it take waaaaaaaaaay longer to cook them! Use the water, then add as much broth as you like! Amazing! Thanks for stopping by to watch & for such a great question! Kimberly
You don't have to soak them, conventionally speaking, but you'll wish you did. Beans can be cooked straight from dry, but it just takes so much longer to finish. In my opinion, you do yourself a disservice when you don't soak your beans. That sounds delicious & like it should work. Do let us know though, if you would. Great question, yosymitiesam1! Come back by anytime, Kimberly :)
Hmmm...I can't remember...That one has bit the dust since this show. I am now using the Wolfgang Puck Rice Cooker & it is great. You can purchase one through my store shop.cookingwithkimberly.com/wolfgang-puck-10-cup-rice-cooker - I love using this new one! Kimberly :)
Hi Kimberly, have you tried cooking chick peas / garbanzo beans in a rice cooker ? Do you know if it works ? How many minutes would it take to cook in a rice cooker ? Hope you can help. Thanks
Hi there! Yes, I have, Pat! Every rice cooker is different, so I'm not sure I can give you a time for them. You'll have to just keep making sure there is water in the rice cooker, and keep testing for tenderness! I hope that helps! Have yourself a marvelous Sunday! Kimberly
I tried it; much more convenient & right-sized than the crock pot, but it took nearly an hour & is electric, while we have a gas stove, which is much cheaper to run. I will be looking at your other things though, thanks!
How much was your electric for the rice cooker vs the gas stove? Also a part of the idea is the convenience of set and forget which is not the case with the gas stove. Also include the cost of running the exhaust fan while the gas stove is running in the comparison.
Hi pokeythepatriot777! You can try using the larger beans such as garbanzo, pinto, kidneys, but I do suggest keeping with the small beans to ensure they get cooked properly. If you do use the larger beans, please use plenty of water and you'll need to probably keep adding more water. Use less beans because they will greatly expand... Hope that helps! :)
Im with you on the indian food I went to London back in May to visit my cousins and uncle and I was eating Indian food left and right so many indian people which means restaurants and indian stores everywhere
LOL...No rip off...my mom's been saying that since I was a child! LOL...Funny how "patents" are given to "sayings"...but thank you for checking it all out, lnconseethebilletee
Hi, Adeline! Yes, I suppose so. They may be a bit mushy - not sure - if they are already cooked, but it would make a delicious "dirty" rice! Mmm... Thanks for stopping by to watch & comment too. Kimberly
