Nigerian food, they say is a key to a man's heart not underestimating how much it has saved our lives all through our existence. On this episode of food arena, BattaBox presenter, WarriPikin travelled to Delta state his home town to taste some food and today's food is Owoh soup. Join us!!!
Owoh soup is a soup with its origin from the Niger delta area of Nigeria and it is been popularly eaten by the people of the Urhobo tribe who are favourite for this dish. Urhobo wadooh! Urhobo wadooh!! Urhobo wadooh!!! It is a Nigerian soup made from ingredients including starch and eaten with starch (funny, isn't it) or preferably, you can eat it with.
It is quite funny with the means of cooking and simple at the same time as the ingredients to make this awesome dish are the regular ones being used to cook most of this dishes we eat with little additions/options to perfect it. So how to cook owoh soup - the following are the ingredients used in making owoh soup, Fish, Crayfish, Potash, Cayenne Pepper, Assorted meat, Smoked red prawns, Palm Oil Salt, Seasoning cubes, Starch/Garri (Cassava flakes) and a very few options...
What will you love to try Owoh soup, one of Nigerian food's most colorful dishes with?

I think you didnt realise that the Itsekiris have their Owo Obé as well. Are you sure you not confusing Delta and Edo? Starch, and garri, even green plantain make the soup thick young man. The fermented oil (Epo Itsekiri) is what gives Owo its taste. The potash brings the colour of effervescent yellow. Every region has its variety, dont forget

For edification purpose I'm going to ask the following y do u all cook most of ur soups with crayfish and so much oil note: I'm not criticizing I've just always wondered also does the oil add a specific flavor so therefore you need to add a certain amount and is it the same reason for the crayfish I am just fascinated with the African traditions lately whether it be cooking or fashion or overall lifestyle

@faitht.4244
@faitht.4244 4 года назад
The oil has its own distinct rich flavour. It cannot be compared to any other oil you can find. Maybe something like extra virgin olive oil may come close, but still palm oil is quite differnt, as its richer n fattier . The crayfish lends smokyness and umami flavour. It heightens the taste of any form of savoury food. I guess that's why we put it in everything. But it can be overwhelming, so one needs to judge when using it.
