I recently found a neat tofu hack for giving it a more meaty or firm texture. After draining the tofu, freeze it and when you thaw it back out so much more water is released. Gives it a nice texture.
Kitt, I tried what you said about freezing the tofu and it really worked; thank you so much and God bless. By the way, you can read my other comment and if you wish, you can try my tofu recipe; it's very delicious!
I have been vegan for a few months, but have been intimidated by tofu! Imade it today for the first time, using this recipe. It was DELICIOUS! I had some left over pieces that didn't fit on my baking sheet, so I followed the same directions, but fried them in a skillet. Oh my! So good!!! I mixed vegan blue cheese and wing sauce, and dipped the tofu in it. I could eat this every day! Thank you for a good, simple recipe!
Happy Friday my friends! This is a video I have gotten SO many requests for so I am happy to finally get this into your hands. I can't wait to hear what you think. xo - Dani
Hi Dani! We're so excited to try this recipe in our house! Do you have any suggestions for turning tofu into a make-ahead meal? Can tofu be frozen or baked ahead and kept in the fridge as leftovers? Thank you so much! By the way, we love your new kitchen decor :)
I really want to change my diet to a plant based diet. I know to eat fruits and veggies but I honestly don't know what to get for actual meals. Thanks for this video. I have my work cut out for me.
Hope you had good luck! I would also suggest looking into Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisine or even Indian :) There are lots of interesting plant-based dishes or things that could be easily modified.
I made this tonight and it was a solid hit with the whole family. It was so delicious and so easy to make. We added teriyaki sauce and served it over rice with roasted tiny carrots, thin asparagus, sweet yellow peppers and boiled edamame. Thank you!
I followed this recipe, cooked some couscous, took a bag of Asian flavored veggies out of freezer and served in bowls w/ Duck sauce on side. Simple flavors but we were very happy. Desperate for a quick healthy short cut. You saved the day!! Thank you
I just made this recipe with one pack of tofu; after it had baked I kept half of it in a bowl, and set it aside to eat just as it is. The other half, I sautéed some thinly sliced onions and crushed garlic, then added chunks of onions, red and green bell peppers, carrots, a piece of hot pepper, and salt; poured about half cup of water and two tablespoons of oyster sauce; stir and let it cooked, when almost done, then add the baked tofu and finished cooking. I'm going to have my lunch which consists of coconut rice, a fresh green salad and the delicious tofu I just made; I've already tasted it and it's very delicious! Thank you and God bless.
tofu hack from Japan...wrap in a few paper towels and microwave briefly. instant draining! For this recipe I would cut the block into thirds first and then microwave each individually. Trying this tonight!!
I make my own miso sauce using white shirt pasted and throw the tofu in it to marinade but seriously now just watching the way to roast up tofu will be my new go to finger food. So grateful I came across this show. Cheers Shenoah, Moreton Bay, QLD, Australia
So true totally addicting, I am now a tofu lover become of these recipes!!! So nice as a new vegan to be introducing to tofu in this way, Thank you so much for sharing!
I'm a straight up carnivore, but I had the opportunity to live in south Korea for 2 years while in the army, and I am now a huge fan of tofu. Cooked correctly, it feels like chicken. Great video
Just became a Vegetarian and I think God i found you thank you for showing me a man from Meat rich WV West Virginia what to do with tofu I legit had no idea I am an animal lover and was sick of eating animals I wouldn't kill myself 2 mos meat-free I realized its much cheaper to just buy tofu but didn't know what to do with it you have amazing recipes and hacks going to try each one this week I've always loved to cook and now I can begin to enjoy again and will continue to watch ur videos for tips recipes and inspiration thank you
I turn to this recipe time and time again because it works every time and it’s absolutely delicious and the exact texture I was looking for. Very nicely presented video too! 💚
Great video. I used your method to drain, marinate and cook the tofu. At the point the tofu is ready to come out of the oven I get a wok and pour a little oil along with a small amount of sliced spring onion (think you guys call these scallions), green bell pepper, crushed garlic, chili flakes and a touch of salt and toss the tofu into this for a minute (Chinese salt N spicy chilli style).
I did the baked low sodium soy sauce one (no other sauces) omg I swear by it, flavourful, crispy and healthy in rice bowls or salads. Thank you for this recipe.
Have eaten Tofu so many times and never had a better recipe than this! It’s so easy and delicious I will be eating it very often. So glad I found this.
I made this tonight for dinner for my husband, my 27 year old vegetarian son and myself. We all loved it! 🙂 I made it with teriyaki sauce, rice & steamed broccoli. There was no leftovers! I have never made a tofu dish that my husband and I liked. My son requested I make it again when he comes over for his weekly dinner visit, but also requested I make a double batch of the Tofu. Thank you so much. I love your videos & cant wait to try more of your healthy recipes.
I just finished making this tofu and tossed it with a tomato red chili sauce. It is absolutely amazing! The tofu smells and tastes delicious and crispy. I highly recommend this technique for baking crispy tofu. Thanks Dani!!
I’m new to the vegetarian lifestyle. I made tofu for the first time tonight and followed all of the directions! IT CAME OUT AMAZING !!!! I can’t wait to start exploring these new recipes 😋🤙🏽
Oil is definitely an important component of making tofu taste better. Thanks for the seasoning idea! Good inexpensive meat alternative and extremely versatile.
Thanks for the recipe. Before cutting my tofu I put it in a vacuum bag with tons of paper towels and vacuum sealed it. I let it sit for a few minutes then opened the bag and it was thoroughly pressed. The atmosphere pressed a lot harder than I could have without breaking it up.
I'm going to do this tonight. The family is coming over tonight to celebrate my mother's birthday. I'm making chicken and shrimp teriyaki for dinner, but my granddaughter is a veggievore. I try to find new recipes for her, and this will fit in perfectly with tonight's menu. Thank you!!
Wowwy wow!!! Great video Dani!! Have some tofu that's been hanging around my fridge giving me accusing looks saying "Why haven't you used me yet!"... I'm on it now!
We make a lot of these and throw them in salads also. Not as crispy then, but still a great protein. I just wanted to say that all soy sauce is fermented. It’s made from fermented soy beans. It seemed like only Tamari was fermented. Tamari used to be the byproduct from making miso, but due to the demand, it’s made as a stand alone. Tamari is usually gluten free.
Tried this once in a pan and it was okay but baked is going to be SOOOO much better. Love your outfits and now you're linking to what you're wearing. That's a G R E A T idea in addition to the links to your kitchen supplies. Kudos, Dani!!
I tried this recipe bc I’m wanting to go vegetarian but I really like chicken. I’ve never had tofu before so this was a good way to try it. I tried it right out of the oven and it tasted exactly like a chicken nugget. I flavored it with orange sauce and terriyaki and made some rice with it. I still can’t tell if I like it or not but it’s not bad.
I’ve had tofu for the 1st time last week & thoroughly enjoyed it. So I bought a pack. Watching this video I’ll be making this tom.night . Hope it turns out for me . Thx for the video & different ideas of serving tofu
Helpful hint, wrap a brick from the outside, (you can buy one from your local hardware store for under $3) in aluminum foil and use it to put weight on top of your tofu and drain the water. Works great and super fast! Put your tofu between two plates and put the brick on top
I made this last night and it was so good. I've had a lot of tofu fails, so I am excited this worked for me! Will make again! The only thing I did different wasd I cut my tofu into 4 slabs before pressing it. I finished dicing it after it was pressed.
Just tried this out. Big surprise hit. As in, first time and nervous about the consistency and flavor with the end product. I cant believe how great it was just coming out of the oven! We're now looking forward to trying it as a substitute in a Mexican dish later this week. 😍
THANK YOU! I've made tofu by draining, then adding garlic salt, toaster oven, flipping half way, & just waited while watching RU-vid till it got crispy. This video is awesome.
Omgg this was legit the best tofu I have ever had in my life. My mom didn’t believe me that crispy tofu exists until I made this recipe. Def the best tofu in the world easily
Thank you so much for those. I have eaten them at Whole Foods but did not know how to make them taste like that. I would also love that good tofu scramble recipe. Thank you
Thanks for this recipe. I've always liked these in stir-fry at restaurants. Now I can have them at home. I will first incorporate them into traditional Thai fried rice. I then plan to try them enhanced with the three demonstrated methods.
thank you so much. My mom would fix Tofu a lot----but unfortunately I never learned from her how to fix it. She is no longer with me, so when I fix this, I know she is smiling some where.
thank you! just made this and was delicious! I ate quite a few with hot sauce as I waited for my bagel to toast up. This was awesome on a toasted bagel with vegan cream cheese, tomatoes, spinach and hot sauce. Thanks again :)
This is so much better than frying the tofu. Less grease, less calories. Will definitely try baking next time. I toss my tofu in tamarind, honey and sriracha sauce.
I totally appreciate the time you took to explain things and just give us a very informative video. I learnt a lot in this 8 minute while enjoying your beautiful personality. I'm subscribing ^^
I'll have to replace the avocado oil with sesame oil and “normal“ soy sauce cause I can't find the right ingredients where I live. Cooking it today for the first time and hoping it'll turn out good !
Just tried this recipe tonight opting for the BBQ sauce. Hubby was happy. Learned a new skill. Appreciate your skills and sharing. Coming back to your show. Aloha from downtown Saguache CO
If I could give this 1000 👍🏻 I would! Yum yum and more yum! I think I’m making all three of these tomorrow! Or at least I will be prepared to make them all week! Thank you so so much for sharing!
If only I looked at youtube like an hour ago... Just cooked tofu and it could have come out better. Looking forward to using your tips at my next attempt! Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful delicious recipe of tufo I will cook this today before the football game will start.....yesss cheers. More power to you, I will share this to my sisters....
I use a potato ricer to press the water from my tofu. of course you have to cut the tofu into cubes first. This works like a dream and no waste of paper towels or wet cotton towels and best of all there is no waiting for the water to come out of the tofu.
So great I found your videos! I can't wait to try this trick for preparing the tofu to add to dishes. We love Asian food so I will be adding it to stir veggies and other recipes we use with meat. I haven't liked the tofu in place of meat because we can never get that solid texture in place of meat. So, so excited! Thanks. I am a new subscriber.
Dear Dani, I've been wondering for ages how to make Tofu crispy! Now I know!!! Thank you so much. The recipes sound delicious. I will definitely put this on my meal plan next week. It is also fun to look up the items which are particularly American, like Buffalo wing sauce and Siracha sauce (called just 'chilli sauce' in the UK). Recently found your channel and love it!! Have subscribed and also will explore your web site! Thank you for sharing all of those great meal ideas. I saw a comment below about a young child taking to your cooking videos like a duck to water. Why am I not surprised? Keep up the excellent work!
