How to copy Cassette to MP3 - to your laptop. 

Brilliant Tutorial! The world needs more people like you! Wife was cleaning up our office and came across a cassette tape of my sons on a visit to their grandmother in 1984 when they were 3 and 5 yrs old. Following your tutorial I was able to convert it successfully!

I have not tried it yet, but your instructions, voice and explaining encourages me greatly. Thank you. After all I have 250 tapes to go through (I have thrown away 200 last year) and this is a project I thought I would do in the spring.

You don't plug into the headphone jack on the computer UNLESS it's a headphone/microphone combo jack. You actually need to use the microphone jack as you're sending audio INTO the computer. Also, you should only install the Realtek drivers IF you've got a Realtek sound card/chip. Otherwise you're just installing unnecessary software that may also corrupt your actual proper audio drivers. There's also an option within Audacity itself that allows you to listen to the tape whilst recording WITHOUT altering any Windows sound properties. There was also nothing said about altering microphone input gain before recording that could potentially reduce clicks, pops, buzzing, etc. that the user is almost guaranteed to experience that are STILL present even after supposed noise reduction post-processing.

Why did you install the Realtek drivers when you were actually using the super usb cassette capture recorder/player??? Also, do you have a link to buy the recorder/player in the U.S.?

@TeflDude, I just watched your video about how to copy cassette to mp3 on computer. You said you have files in your g-drive, for which there is a link. I clicked on it a few minutes ago, but a message came up that it is no longer available. Which is fine, I guess. My only question, then, is about the 2 jacks. Where do I get these jacks, or what do they look like in their entirety - do you have a picture showing how the computer and the cassette player are connected with the two jacks?

Audacity is lovely software for conversion of analog to digital. I wonder whether there is an *ANDROID VERSION of Audacity* so that i can have similar experience on the Android mobile / Tab which is ubiquitous these days.

Hi, this is the best and most patient clip I have seen how to convert cassettes to mp3. My only problem I have, is that I can't get my computer to open up realtek after restart....weird. Any advice?

Do any of these methods pick up background noise or ambient noise while recording on audacity?

I do everything like you indicate but not getting any stereo even if it is there. The input signal does appear the same on both left and right.

Appreciated, but. Even with Realtek installed, it does not seem to be an app with various functions that I can open and access settings, etc. And when I connect my cassette player via headphone port on my laptop, there is no pop up window as you show and my laptop immediately assumes that I want to port audio from my laptop to my cassette player instead of the other way round. Any thoughts on how to get past this state of play?

Your laptop jack is just for speakes or hadphones, OUT, not IN. Is not possible to plug IN. How can you do? I can't. In my Realtek HD drive I can't click right on analog point

I do have this unit, but once I put the cassette in it, start recording, the sound vowels, changes the speed, pitch in between playback sometimes . Why ??? Is something wring with the player or I received A bad price??

Worked like a charm a couple weeks ago. Microsoft Windows installed updates (even though I have them turned off via metered connection settings), and deleted not only a bunch of my files (fortunately found some in my recycle bin) but also removed realtek for some reason. I get no option when I plug in now Can't even install it from the website. Microsoft Windows is like a virus -- breaks your computer. I'm on the verge of getting rid of microsoft altogether so I can continue to use my hardware, which I paid for, and should be able to use, whether they approve or not.

How do you set Audacity to detect the silence between tracks and create EACH SONG as it's own individual recording, so you don't have to spend hours manually splitting and saving the songs individually after the full album/cassette is recorded?

How good is this device? I hear most new cassette players use a cheap mechanism through which your cassettes won't sound as good as they should!

why are you asking folks to download the realtek audio driver for hardware they may not have? Looks like you are providing a hardware specific setup based on your equipment. Installing another driver may actually stop a computers audio from working.
