Jay that was such a clear, precise but simple explanation of using IPP2. I purchased a RED epic dragon and it has been a learning curve. Thank you Jay, excellent stuff.

Probably best to just go into the Red decoding settings at the project level and do all of that, then select to keep the iso, color temp etc "as shot" - much better way of doing it so you're not copying shot specific critical.settings

if you want to use RCM Resolve Colormanagement i understood so far that it's very important to grade in your camera ColorSpace and set the output space to whatever your final export needs. Example: Using RED Dragon it would be RedColor+Gamma 4 -- RCM output colorspace would be Rec709 gamma 2.4. --- where do you fit the IPP2 Settings and the conversion LUT?

I believe you can just middle mouse click to copy all the settings, no need to grab stills, etc.

Excellent very useful tutorial, many thanks. Pardon this one stupid question from a beginner. You have emphasized that the order of the workflow is of utmost importance. Yet in the video the first step was to apply a conversion to Rec709. Is that okay, as long as its on the last node? Or was it just for demonstration, but in practice you would not do this?
@LutifyMe3DLUTs
@LutifyMe3DLUTs 4 года назад
The order in which nodes are organised or placed in node tree is what matters. It doesn't matter if you apply first a log conversion as long as other nodes take place before it. Think of it as layers in Photoshop if you're familiar with them. The top most one is the last one applied to the image but it doesn't matter if that's the one you actually created first. What matters is that it's top most one.

Hello, just wondering how you would deal with multiple camera sciences in the timeline? I have r3d, DJI X7, slog3 and of course, gopro... Is there a catch-all sequence setting that would be a good starting point? Thanks for the video and LUT's, mega helpful!
@LutifyMe3DLUTs

The answer to that would be to use ACES colour management. We will have a video about that coming soon.

I noticed that in the raw settings in your video, there is a contrast slider. I'm on Davinci 18.5 and when I select IPP2 there is no contrast slider in the camera raw settings. Why is that and how can I change the raw contrast?

Can we use the Resolve Color Management (RCM) under Project Settings > Color Management? I went and changed my Color Science to DaVinci YRGB Color Managed but when I go into the dropdowns, I don't see IPP2 as an option.
@LutifyMe3DLUTs
@LutifyMe3DLUTs 4 года назад
Yes you can, you would do that in Project Settings > Camera RAW though. Then make sure you select RED, then 'Project' under 'Decode Using' so you can select IPP2.

Hi i have a client who wants me to grade there IPP2 which i sfine your video has helped massively thank you very much, can i ask they have asked for DCI Scope 4K as one of the 3 exports they want me to do... to get the correct grade is there any settings i need to apply before grading to get the correct grade on the DCI export they want? Thanks. Simon.
@LutifyMe3DLUTs
@LutifyMe3DLUTs 4 года назад
Hi Simon, for DCI you would need to use the IPP2 to P3 DCI log conversion LUT, instead of conversion into Rec709 at the end of your pipeline and of course monitor on appropriate P3 DCI projector or monitor.

What if you needed to qualify skin? Wouldn't that have to be done after the rec 709 conversion?
@LutifyMe3DLUTs
@LutifyMe3DLUTs 3 года назад
You don't have to convert into Rec709 to qualify skin. Yes, it can be easier to qualify in Rec709 but it's definitely doable in wide colour spaces as well and if done properly holds all of the benefits of making your color decisions in a wide color space. The "secret" usually is controlling the "Low" saturation and luminance level and adjusting the Hue range. Mainly the "Center" of the hue.

Would it be wrong if, besides the IPP2 I use the "davinci wide gamut/davinci intermediate sandwich" instead of the LUT?
@LutifyMe3DLUTs
@LutifyMe3DLUTs Год назад
If your footage is IPP2, you would need to convert it from IPP2 into DWG in that case. However, please note if you do that, the LUTs that you use (if you use creative LUTs) need to be tailored for DWG.

Why is it benefital to apply luts before the log-to-rec709 conversions? And since you have to use compatible luts with that workflow, have you converted your luts so that they work before the log conversion? In that case, how?:)
@LutifyMe3DLUTs
@LutifyMe3DLUTs 4 года назад
It is beneficial to apply LUTs before Rec709 conversion because after conversion has taken place you are locked in the Rec709 space. Outputting to P3 for example would require a re-grade. Also Rec2020 or any other space. If you save the log conversion for last step, the need for change after a grade has been locked would be minimal and all that would be required is a different log conversion. Because of this we offer IPP2 LUTs which are to be used before log conversion, however, yes that is for IPP2 RED footage only. As for other LUTs and workflows, we will soon be releasing a new product which will work exactly that way and allow you to make all of your colour grading decisions in a wide standardised color space and apply log conversion only at the end.
