As with any other weapon, you got to analize your opponent. Remember that punishing does not only refer to whiff punishing! You can also intercept their attacks!! Let's look at some Greatsword example on intercepting Are they dashing to you and doing a side light/down light? You can use YOUR side light to outrange them the momment they dash forward! They will be hit by your attack but you won't get hit by theirs!. Are they jumping and then doing a dair at you? Your neutral light will serve as an anti air, so the momment they seem in position to throw a dair, press the light attack button!! Are they being too passive and only waiting for you to get close so you cannot react to their attack? Down light is very, very fast and has a lot of range, so if they are grounded, you will be able to hit them first! (Similar to bow down light) Now then, if your opponent is half good, they will start to adapt, and you should do the same! If your opponent knows that you are going to side light the momment they dash at you, they will instead dash but not attack, so they can punish you! Once again, you simply got to analize in which way they are trying to bait you. Are they doing a dash dance? Down light Are they doing a dash + empty jump?
