Errors are fun to collect but you should know how easy it is to reproduce them. In this video I show you how they can be made and give a few tips on what to look for.
Even in store!! I assume that a person can do it, return the car as an exchange and voilà! You find an error... you can ask yourself: why would someone do this for no profit? Answer: sadism! LOL
John Smith who gives a fuck if it's rare ? It's broken xD . Would you pay double for an iPhone 7 if it had a defect that made the screen green no mater what ?
ThreeDaysOfDan considering a lot of people collect hot wheels, functionality doesn't mean anything, it's all about rarity. Why do you think misprinted money is so expensive? Because it's rare and not supposed to be like that.
I always thought misprints were so neat. Thank you for making this! I collect classic HW muscle cars and brand deal cars, all in the packaging. I've got a few with sun-bleached packaging, a few with very weak and torn packaging, but that's what happens sometimes when you buy from flea markets lol. +1 subscriber!
+Kount Five I've got one error car that only paid 50 cents for and it was in pack backwards but I figured someone put it in there like that to make a quick buck off it.
After two and a half decades in law enforcement, dealing with innovative a--holes, took its toll and I retired trusting no one.....and perhaps unfortunately, I passed that trait on to my kids! That said----as with coins, knives, stamps, comic books, old tools, antiques's----Caveat Emptor. Thank you so much for educating especially young kids----many of whom use hard-earned money to collect---and "older kids" who can learn as well. As for the A--holes out there considering doing this to make a "dime" off someone's ignorance? Street justice sometimes occurs. Not often....but sometimes.
Tuff to watch this video being an error collector. I have purchased a few fakes myself. Odds are if someone is asking a lot for an error, it's probably fake. Or if the error seems to crazy to be true. Despite the risk of fakes, I still buy second hand but only from people I trust. Even in the best attempts, reglued blisters are still easy for me to spot in hand. In buying fakes I have learned how to better spot them for next time. Sad that people do this, and sad that real collectors have to make videos to call it out. Thanks for the video...
I'm so glad you showed how to open and reseal the package. I'm going to customize a car to look like a friend's actual car. And now I can have it in the package like it came that way from the factory for him. Very cool. I know that's not why you showed it, but I think it'll be great to be able to give it to him like that.
Butthurt error collectors disliking the video, paying for a hot wheels more than what its worth because it has *_missing wheels_* or is *_upside down_*
They only sell for a lot, for example, if they are already a highly desired issue; the error enhances the desirability some, sometimes a lot. But the ones that are already cheap, the error only doubles or triples the value. Trust me, no one is getting rich on selling errors. "Kids to college" indeed. A couple of bucks is not worth a ruined reputation unless you are insane or desperate. That guy is a jerk
StandaLon Not getting rich maybe but it doesn't prevent people from trying. There are scalpers out there that buy whole Walmart exclusive bins before they hit the floor and sell the sets at three times the price. Lol
I liked the video, it's not what my comment is about. It's the error collecting that baffles me. These are not coins or even vintage Hot Wheels. They are cheep Chinese made toys, there will be plenty of errors
Nice video! I have a pretty big error collection from the mid-late 90s. Luckily, most of them were gifts from people who knew I collected them, so when I do sell them, I won't be trying to make any money off of them. I have a complete set of 1996 First Editions where each car is one type of error or the other. Most can't be authenticated, but a few can be rivet-authenticated.
Well done dude. I only have a few error cars in my collection. Fortunately I purchased them straight from the shop and not online so I know they are the real deal but I had no idea that the blister pack could be tampered with so easily. Thankyou for the heads up..... I will stick to looking for error cars at the shops Subscription earned :)
@@sillybilly7947 I received a casting that had the spoiler broke off that was in a sealed from the factory case, and last night I found the the 84 Corvette from the “HW: The 80’s” series that’s missing the entire interior. All it has is the casting, windshield, and wheels. The interior of the ‘84 Corvette has the door interior as well as the back lights. The casting is sitting on the wheels and I know it’s impossible to take out without drilling the rivets. Found it at my local Walmart.
That was a fun video. I tend to stay away from errors, as I don't care about them, but just like seeing restorations, it is fun to see how someone would go about it.
I stopped collecting Hot Wheels and Takara Tomy cars since middle school and have watched several of your videos. Thanks random RU-vid recommendations.
*_I got a Skyline R33 with a weird pattern of small silver dots on the side. But it seems like the car messed up when it was produced, due to how it seems to have the same blue coat layer painted over allthough you still can see the error. The paint might have been messed up but it doesn't look too bad, it makes my Skyline unique in a way :D_*
I have been stung by re-packaged older Thomas toys that are sold on e-bay. I now never trust whats termed Mint In Box because it's so easily faked. Looks like these fake errors are the easiest way to turn $1 into $20. My fav Hot Wheels error is defects in the die-cast. Thats impossible to fake, subtractive error that can only happen in factory.
Nice video. I've bought a few errors from the store when my wife worked at a Kmart. She would go and look for them every morning after they freshly stocked.
Thanks! I have been subscribed to your channel for some time now and I appreciate your help to learn more about car's of my youth as well as current ones. I had not heard anything about error car's, but this is mostly nostalgic for me. Solomon's credited with the phrase there is nothing new under the Sun. You have reinforced those words! If something is expensive surely more of them will occur. Had you heard the story of a few gold coins produced after the US had ceased production in the 1930's something like 8 were made by unscrupulous mint workers and the Federal Government went to great lengths over the span of much time and got them back. I think that the story of Sysyphus is what those who purposely fake a defect deserve, instead of a lot of extra money.
Until you figure out that you're buying a handgun every couple of months, only instead of a firearm you're buying it in the form of many Hot Wheels lol. Welcome to the hobby though. I went nuts last week and spent just under $100. The week before was only a couple cars, the same as the week before that. It does seem like at least once a month I over spend. I don't do series like a lot of collectors though... I do specific cars like Twin Mills (only first gen), Datsuns, Vairy 8 s, Deoras (only first gen) and so on.
I agree and Love the video, I have been wondering about all these error's I see on eBay and just can't fathom why someone wants to buy a error car that most likely has been counterfeited. I am sorry for all the people who has been scammed. I am also grateful that you showed me how to remove the blister and put it back on, I am a little confuse as to what the stuff was on the brush, I don't think it is water but LET ME KNOW if u can.
Great video I collect all kinds of hot wheels and would never buy a factory error for all the reasons your video mentions thanks for letting collector's know of the potential pitfalls of buying factory errors
I just watched your article on errors with hot wheels and have just returned to the hobby of collecting diecast vehicles, as I only collect fot myself and sometimes do mods it doesn't really bother me as I buy from my local Target, Kmart or Big W stores here in Australia if it has odd wheels I seek out a second car for matching wheels and put both cars on display so friends and family members can see the difference. Great article though and I did learn something, I also gave you a thumbs up. 😊👍🖒
I have a real error (I think) RRRoadster (not treasure hunt) the one side has decals but the other doesn't. Found it at toys r us for a regular car price within all the normal cars
I found an ice shredder at Walmart that has no wheels at all. It was near the bottom of a dump bin. I bought it but I'm not sure it's legit. Is there any possible way to tell?
+Bryson Dyer im sure thats legit bro. bcs u buy it from store and pay for normal price. i think the point of this video is when u buy it from another collector. but if u find it in on a store im pretty sure thats legit
I have a 1995 jeep wrangler. The cap to the gas tank is missing. I must have forgot to screw it back on when i was filling gas and drove off without it. Not talking about hotwheels but i just wanted to share.
Easy way around is buy your error from the stores, assuming they weren't tampered with first. All eight of mine were picked up from shops, some card errors, missing axles, badly spun & a paint error
Very informative. Thank You.. I found a Flame Edition without the flames, at a chain retailer, regular price. I have no desire to sell, but would understand a potential buyer's skepticism. I have searched thousands of hot wheels in the last few years, found maybe two legitimate errors. Fortunately it is not the category I focus on.
collectors wont mind about where or how this errors come. There are collectors who even bought the wonder woman invisible jet without a diecast inside which is more foolish and buy and sell for more than a hundred percent. The point is, collectors will still buy which is odd or unique and think of it as something special
I on e found a matchbox in the blister sideways at the store for regular price. This was factory, since it came from the store. However, I now know not to buy expensive "ERRORS" from random sellers. Thanks! :)
Looking at the rivet can be miss leading as well. Ive seen videos where u can take a high wattage soldering gun and heat the rivet making the plastic base hot enough where it will pull over the rivet with no distortion. Just crazy the ideas people would do to make a buck. Only errors i consider with a grain of salt is rivet errors where they smash parts when the car is put together. Thanks for the videos enjoy the content and tips you provide Thanks.
ferbbe02 no,not counterfeit.it came out of a case like that.i don't think someone would go through the trouble of buying, altering and then returning the car to the store.
I don't think so. It's like trying to find the TH and Super TH cars in stores. Although they're hard to come by but they can be found. I found a Flash Drive car with missing front wheels at work the other day in our dump bin. Besides who would really take the time to make the error so that it can be sold in a retail store?
The ability to sell the cars at I higher price because they are "errors" when in fact they are just tampered with. There are actual errors which are valueable, but the scammers just destroy the market.
By chance I came across your hot wheels video (I don't have an interest in them, nor do I collect, buy or sell them). It was an interesting expose on how some people manufacture fake product defects in order to sell that "special" product. I couldn' resist and had to check ebay. I found a corvette that was the same as yours except for the color and it was missing the tampo on the side, no doubt faked the same way you demonstrated. There were other ones for sale with different "factory defects", all of which could have been created as you described.
Great video, fascinating stuff. Makes me glad I don't collect errors, I just buy what I see and like at store prices. Thanks for taking the time to make the video though.
Thats good to know stuff! I did purchase a starting lineup from the store once with the players card upside down. Now that I think about it, it may have been the wrong card also. I should see if I still have it!
When I was a kid my mom would ask me why I would bring a water bottle with a brush inside when i went to a place that sold hotwheels I said I would clean a car after I bought it,but I used it to weaken the glue to steal a car with no traces,if I didn't have a water bottle I would use my spit
I remember Guys doing that acetone trick back in the late 90s when Hotwheels treasure hunts and first editions were stupid crazy popular. You can't even imagine what it was like hunting Hotwheels back in the late 90s. Its like a tour in Vietnam, still have flashbacks.
Very interesting that people are doing counterfeit errors. Luckily I'm not into errors myself but I know others like to find them. Good info to keep in mind.
So sad that this is really a thing, faking error cars. Seems there's corruption in all things. Me, I just try not to take things so seriously that I get caught up in things like "error cars" I just buy what a like brand new and hold on to them. I have a whole series of concept Camaros that I picked up as I saw them at a grocery store as well as a couple of 2006 Greenlight Barret Jackson sets I got at the auction that year. Maybe worth something someday but that's not why I have them, they're just kind of cool themed art to me. posted up on a cord board frame.
Go back to school! For it to be racism, it has to be about his race. Judging by the name, he's Hispanic and therefore a Caucasian. So you are saying that Kevin is being racist against a white guy. Dumb-ass.
@@92camarors98 No Hispanics are Caucasian. That's why there are separate terms for them. Spanish people (people actually from Spain) and their descendants, on the other hand, if pure are not Hispanic but instead Caucasian. I actually know one such individual, and he takes offense when he's referred to as Hispanic. I didn't know that's how it was until he told me, and naturally I had to check it out. Now it a running joke between us when I call him white boy lol.
Very informative indeed!!! Thank You indeed for taking the time to make this video and uploading it. I had no idea that certain individuals part take in such money making scams!!!!!
I actually bought one from the grocery store that was missing both axles. That was most likely an actual error I think, but this is making me think maybe otherwise, though it's not like anyone can profit from that I don't think.
So I got a hot wheels Acura nsx in red a few months ago and it had the entire top plastic windshield and roof put on the car backwards and I'm assuming that's pretty rare because I can't find any other ones like it online (I bought it at toys r us so it was not fake) but my being stupid opened it and tore up and destroyed the entire thing trying to fix it, how much would it have been worth if I left it in the package?
I started collecting in 2016...the first actual video I watched, been hooked on BMHW, ever since. I recently ran into a few douche-bags who tried to pull that Tampo removing stuff with me...huh, uh!! White Corvette Gran Sport, red Tampos. The card just didn't look right. I passed, thanx to you. Now I watch for idiots n errors in stores. thanx for the tip, man. Be you.
I like to say thanks for the info I have found some hot wheels with errors but I purchase them from retail stores. I just think they're cool. and to know that we're all human and we do make mistakes. the errors are just simple mistakes like one I have the car did not get ribbit. if you look at the car it look good but if you turn the package upside down the car comes apart. but like I said it's cool looking.
+Richard Richmond Don't get me wrong... if I see a mistake in a retail store I grab it too.. What I don't do is buy them second hand.. it is just to tempting and to easy to make them. However, I will happily buy other mistakes in other lines such as Greenlight... mistakes that are in tamper proof packaging. I completely agree with the human element to finding mistakes...it makes the hunt that much more enjoyable.
Great Video. actually there is a way for the rivets to appear as untouched and to disassemble the while car. Used a Soldering iron which is at least 100 watts in power and place that on the rivet. this will make the rivet expand and make the plastic melt for you to disassemble the car. when you are done with the car, just clean the rivet whole and reheat the rivet to lock the chassis in place.
I got a Datsun 510 wagon with the whole decal job done twice. Once about 1mm up and left to the base one. I also have a car with one of the wheels put on backwards. Only two errors I'm aware that I own...
Great job, thankyou! One question I have though, if you see one of those errors in the store like on a shelf or in a dump bin, is it an error? Since I don't think a counterfeiter would go and put back an "error" car in a store.
Hi ,I would take a picture of the item in the wild,at the store plainy in view to validate where you bought it and show its codition at the time of purchase,:)
I didn't read every comment so I may be repeating something, but even changing the color of a windshield can be done. It's especially easier on zemac cars or black and dark colored cars. Once the car has been removed from the pack you car dip it upside down in some Rit dye making sure to completely submerge the clear plastic. The dye will "stain" the plastic and may also dye paint and tampos. Buyer beware.
I am putting this out now so DON'T BE DECEIVED!! I have an old 90's White Camaro with orange/red stripes White Wheels Convertible Red interior, that I am going to put into the new 50th Anniversary package just to try it, then its going in my garage with my others Hey! It's mine and NFS! But yeah scary how easy it is to tamper with these packages. It makes me wonder if because of this, all hot wheels will be looked at differently from now on.
What about a offsetted paintjob? I found a blue bugatti and the tail/front lights paint, the two white stripes were offsetted to the left by 3 millimiters, does it have any value?
I buy errors right from the store And i dont know if i like this vid Or not ! i have found some cool ones Thanks for making my love of this Aspect of the hobby tainted ! ...Good Luck selling YOUR error collection, seeing as we know what you can do .... i think by demostrating the technique you are actually doing more harm than good.
Next thing you know youll tell us the ending of StarWars ,or that there is no Santa Claus .....Good Luck selling YOUR error collection, seeing as we know what you can do .... i think by demostrating the technique you are actually doing more harm than good.
+Phillip Ravanski I am not a psychologist but you may be suffering from the "Ostrich effect"... if you wish to keep your delusions unchallenged you should probably not get on the internet..
