I didn't think anyone still liked fake wood - it looks tacky these days, IMHO. An aluminum look like this is modern, simple, and classy. That said, I kind of like the piano black trim in my E46, which has an all black interior and all black trim outside. But of course do whatever makes you happy. I might grab some dash trim at Pull-A-Part to paint, so I can see which I like better without ruining my factory black. Maybe a darker tone, like the "dark stainless" appliances I keep seeing. As if I need more projects! Edit: my bad replying to an old post - thought it said 4 months, not 4 years.
Nice video, I'm thinking about doing this on my 2001 330i. I think aluminum looks better in a black interior. I may also try to find these in a junk yard and go that route...
Vinyl wrap is so cheap now and much easier. If applied properly (which is not difficult) it will last at least 5-7 years if not longer for interiors and can be easily replaced.
oh god, ive seen this on so many tutorials fucked up. DO NOT screw the screws in right away, turn them counter clockwise until they "drop" or "click" that means you have matched the screw up with the exising thread. if you dont do this you can either strip the thread that exist or worse yet, break the plastic pillar holding things together. also if you found correct thread spot the screw will drive in easy no forcing required.
I really don't get why would you guys bitch about how it looks? Ultimately this is HIS car, not yours, and YOU can decide if you want to do it on your car or not. He likes it, and made a tutorial if anyone would like to refresh the look of their car. Geez, people on the internet should stop acting like someone is forcing them to do this to their own car.

Dude the wood trim still looked cracked afterwards....I don't get it. Were you trying to make it look shinier? You could have just bought after-market trim pieces to replace those old ones. Seriously I cannot be the only one who noticed this.
Not to knock the job you did, but you couldn't come out and tell us you couldn't fix the wood? Is that your only solution - to sand it down and spray silver paint over it? Why not just add a Kia badge on the steering wheel while you're at it?
+Brian Weir If I wanted to fix the wood then the video would be titled "How to repair cracked wood trim." It was a cheap and easy way to rid the terrible factory wood trim and mimic the factory aluminum trim at a fraction of the cost of a used set. Not to mention it makes it easy to repair in the future if it's paint instead of real aluminum.
johnny Harris its more a sports car than luxury so it having wood trim just makes it look old and out of place. And it was already cracked anyways so it didn't look good
