This was explained very well. I am looking for scan to BIM work for my team. this video I used to train them. thank you so much. you could have used trim command to make rectangle for roof instead of dragging line ends to other line end.

This was outstanding! Thank you. Really opened my eyes and changed the game for me in many respects. Graphics were great and clear. Your pace was perfect. Not too fast or slow. My only question is that when you did Edit Type on the Door and Window families to change sizes, was there a reason that you did not do Duplicate first? It seems to me that rather than create new sizes, you merely redefined the existing, and ran the risk of changing already existing instances unintentionally. Was this an oversight, or is there a setting that I'm missing? A somewhat minor point in the overall view, however.

It´s correct, it´s important duplicate the element so that the others do not change

4 things.. 1st. Great Tutorial, loved this and the one before it, where you stitched the scans together in 360.. both very clear and concise. 2nd, the front railing wasn't supposed to reach the floor, not a big deal, but I was getting invested in your tutorial, so it made me squirm a bit. 3rd, the roof overhangs 2 feet on all sides. The reason it appeared wider was because of the gutters which were only along certain edges. 4th, and I hate to say this, because you've got good presence and voice, but you need a better microphone, one that will allow you to swallow without it picking it up on the recording.. it was.. distracting, to put it nicely.. perhaps made worse by the fact I was wearing headphones.. Anyway, I look forward to going through the rest of your stuff!

Very good job, explaining the whole process. Thank you very much. My only question is about the trusses or rafters for the roof: how would you scan those elements? Would you get into the attic and run another scan? Also, how would you scan the roof in for a two (or 3) story house? Can you do it with a typical scanner, or you need a dron to capture that?

Are you not changing the width of all the previously placed doors when you are changing the width of some of the doors (which is a type parameter)? That is what happens with me at least. Is it possible to change the width of an instance without having to duplicate a type for every width of door?

Thanks a lot, Andy! Very useful video! I am trying to send a Revit project (version 2020) to a client that requires the file itself beyond the plans and sections. The project has a linked Point Cloud, which must be visible in the model when the client opens it. To make this possible, I copied the Point Cloud (.rcp file) into the following path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Revit Shared Thus, in theory, anyone who copies the same Point Cloud to this folder would be able to view it. The problem is that it didn't work. My partner tried to open the file on his computer after doing the same steps and the Point Cloud isn't there. He checked the visibility settings and the .rcp filme supposed to be activate there, but it failed. Has anyone been through a similar situation? How can I solve this? Thanks!
@leben1841
@leben1841 3 года назад
Hi, Did your client update the file path within Revit? He has to do it for hime to see the point cloud in revit. It doesn't work like for materials in renders. You have two possible solutions: 1- Since you put the point cloud in the "revit shared" folder. You can set that path in the Options of Revit at the file paths section. (but this is kind of weird. You should never put work files in the install folders of any software, NEVER do that. 2- You go to the insert tab of Revit and under the point cloud section you will find your file missing and reload it with the new path. As a conclusion i would say that the best practice is to make a folder that contains sub forlders. One for the RVT file and another one for the point cloud files. This way,everything is clear and safely stored. You can easily compress the hole and send one RAR or ZIP file to your client who will uncompress it to the path of his choice. He will likely have to do the reload path anyways. Good luck
@scansuremeasure9112

For anybody running into this issue, as already stated, one big piece of solving this puzzle is simply having the client use "Manage links" to reload the cloud by relinking the file to whatever location they saved the cloud on their local system. However, there is a 2nd big piece which I have seen people struggle with: the RCP file is completely useless to the client unless you also send along the RCS cloud files which ReCap automatically generates in the "support" folder. Let's say you have a point cloud called "House," ReCap will make a "House.rcp" file and a "House Support" folder which will contain something like "basement.rcs," "first floor.rcs," and "floor 2.rcs" (note, the naming and the delineation of the scans depends on the type of scanner you are using and the way you are publishing your files. You might also end up with something like "house 001.rcs" "house 002.rcs" and so on where each individual scan position is saved as an individual RCS file). The RCS files are the actual point clouds which is why these files are so much larger in size than the RCP - they may contain 100s of thousands or millions of points depending. But the RCP is simply like a "linking" tool that AutoCAD and Revit uses to display the points contained in the RCS files without LOADING the actual clouds, which cuts down on the file size of your Revit project (sorry I'm not a programmer so I may not be using the proper jargon to describe how the computer does it, but you get the "point" 😉) So to summarize, when you send the Revit file and the RCP file, don't forget to send all the RCS files in the support folder or their RCP file will not have any actual cloud data to display. And again, make sure they use "reload from" in the "Manage Links" dialog box to fix the broken link on their local machine. Hope this helps!!! If you would like some more assistance, please feel free to reach out: info@scansure3D.com

As you keep the point Cloud in your machine ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Revit Shared), only your machine can access it. Please try send it to OneDrive.

Ok, I really appreciate this tutorial but this is just working with a point cloud as a background. I thought this was going to be a revolutionary way to mesh directly from the scan and put it in revit. By the way I pretty much worked out how to mesh from scan and import the mesh using other processes, but I was hoping to see some advanced techniques...Still a useful tutorial, but this is not creating a revit model from a scan, its using a scan as a background image to model as close as I can to the scan.
