In this video, I demonstrate how to create a soft, blurred background effect with Pan Pastels on Pastelmat so that the background doesn't compete with the subject. I also explain why some blurred backgrounds can have hard edges and incorrect values and not read correctly. I also demonstrate some other options for background effects with coloured pencils and other surfaces.
