I love when RU-vid knows what content you want to see. 😁 Just subscribed as I'm dabbling in this. Started with 3 fruit trees on an acre we have done nothing to in 25yrs but mow the "country lawn". I've been fascinated by James Prigioni as well. I've just started moving wood chips (slowly, I'm an old gal 😁). Now I'm searching contractor paper vs breaking down all these boxes.

Get plants in there! Life in the soil is supported by living roots! Think in terms of cover crops that can be terminated and longer term support species that will start fixing nitrogen. Amorpha fruticosa, seaberry, black locust or Italian alder. If you don't plant it, Nature will ;)

Thank you, it’s thriving now…. Lots of berries comfy a few trees…

No need to worry! The rotting leaves (and eventually, cardboard and more slowly, the wood chips) create an enormous amount of life - it's just not visible. The soil that results is rich, loamy, and plants love it. You just part the wood chips (and add more as needed) to put in seeds or plants. It works!
@Dumpmedia1

@@trumpetingangel it’s pretty amazing!!! Thx for watching!
@peterellis4262

@@trumpetingangel And it does even better when you get plants into it right off the bat. The plants encourage even more soil life, photosynthesis creating carbohydrates that get pushed into the soil as root exudates providing even more food and encouraging the right kinds of soil life for healthy plants. The plants also manage soil temperatures and reduce evaporation. Putting a cover crop on an installation like this is easy, takes less time than any other part of the process and is highly beneficial.

You don't need that base layer of leaves. Just put cardboard down first then add compost then mulch. Your going to suffocate your roots
