Brilliant, I have just done my driveway parking in lawn with reinforced plastic netting. If everyone did this to their driveway, we would not have an eco problem in uk

The person prior to me got rid of the front garden in favour of a concrete driveway This is one thing I'd want to do to have the best of both worlds.

Can I do this in an area that develops a puddle in heavy rain?

This would actually solve the puddling as long as you dig deep enough down and put a layer of stone and then membrane, you would have more natural drainage.

Guess it's better than the usual; where I live most of the pretty gardens become spaces for ugly SUV tanks, & of course they 'need' 1 per adult; they're paying to live in a car-park 😂

Gravel, concrete, asphalt is the way to go for parking. Grass will not grow with vehicles parked on it and it will get muddy especially if you turn the tires when the ground is wet. Gravel is the cheapest but you'll drag it all over the place especially when you use a leaf blower. Just do concrete or asphalt.
