I made a mistake of getting my Google phone number before downloading the app. I can’t figure out how to tie that phone number to the app now. Any suggestions?
What's up, Ena? To retrieve your SMS messages from your Google Voice number, simply log into your Google Voice account on the website or app. Once you're in, navigate to the "Messages" section on the left sidebar, where you'll find all your SMS conversations. If you're looking for specific messages, you can use the search bar at the top. Just remember, messages are stored for as long as your account is active, so make sure to check regularly.
I have done this but when I call the google voice number assigned, it does not ring to my cellphone phone, the call ends before it rings through . Thank you.
Hi Margaret! Have you checked your call forwarding settings in Google Voice to ensure your cell number is linked correctly? Also, make sure there aren't any blocks or restrictions on your phone.
Google Voice typically requires a US phone number for verification. If you don’t have one, you might need to use a virtual phone number service to get a US number. Once you have that, you can use it to set up Google Voice. 👌
Yes Bill, you can forward your cell number to your Google Voice number, which allows you to keep your Google Voice number private. In your Google Voice settings, you can set up call forwarding so that calls made to your Google Voice number are forwarded to your cell phone. This way, you don’t have to share your Google Voice number directly.
@@TrevorNace Thanks!! It seems to me that by forwarding your cell # to the google, then your friends don't need to remember another # and since I'm only going to be gone 2 weeks, there will be others that I'd not think about that would call me. Thanks again for your time.
@@TrevorNace Actually, you can not forward the linked cell phone # to the Google Voice #. I tried. The forwarding only seems to work one way. In theory if you forwarded your cell# to GV, they/it would forward the call back to you, thus a circle in which you would never hear the ring. Apparently you could port your cell # to GV which would solve that, but I'd worry that I would never get it back. Charter Cable is that way they even though it's the law that they have to release your number, they won't. Been there done that. But thanks anyway for the video!!
Good question! When you use a Google Voice number, your original linked phone number isn't directly visible to people you call or text. However, Google Voice does have access to your linked number. For extra privacy, make sure you review your Google Voice settings and permissions. If you’re concerned about privacy, consider using additional measures like a separate email account or two-factor authentication.
Hi David! You can choose from a range of area codes for your Google Voice number, not just local ones. However, availability might depend on the options provided by Google Voice. If you’re looking for a specific area code, you can search for it during the setup process.
If there aren’t any available numbers in your area, Google Voice might suggest nearby area codes or offer alternative options. You could also try again later as numbers can become available over time. If you have more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask! 🤔
That was probably on purpose. He could not have shown it to us without giving up his security, so that would have been a bad idea. It was probably just a mild joke.
