Google Voice is a free service from Google that provides you with an additional phone number. You can use Google Voice for personal or business use.
One of the benefits of Google Voice is the option of selecting a number. You can search by your area and select the area code for your phone number that matches your cellphone area code.

Heyhey- just had a quick question for you..can you please tell me how the google voice number is issued? Is it per person or per email account or per other personal detials ? The reason i am asking is to find out if a person can have a second stand alone google voice number for free. if not then can i set up a second GV number by using my husbands details? It really doesnt matter in which name it is under, so long as we can have two google voice numbers, so basically asking how we can achieve this. Thanks

I need the Google Voice number to show while making outgoing calls using Google Voice on android 10. It still shows my carrier number when making outgoing calls and I’m not getting any pop-up to select which number shows when placing the calls. I am placing the calls through the Google Voice app. I already selected the option to select number before each call. It just goes automatically to my phone’s regular calling app. I do not want to show anonymous. I need to show the google number when placing outgoing calls from the Google Voice app. Thanks

Thanks for a great tutorial. I still have one question. When you make a call with Google Voice, I assume the person sees you Caller ID. Is this your phone number or does it include your name? If you try to call from outside the USA to the USA You get charged your long distance rate- If somebody from the USA calls You when You are outside the USA it doesn't charge the Google Voice number owner

Thanks for this great video. I am aware the video is old, but I would like to know how Google Voice handles service compatibilities with different network types. For example, how would my Google Personal Voice service handle calls to and from other networks including landline & mobile as well as Voice over IP (VoIP) services such as WhatsApp and similar applications? I am particularly interested in how the communication data is carried and paid for. You have mentioned using a different carrier, but that was not very clear to me, so if you can explain a bit more. Ok question, with the second number as the business number when I switch on the Do Not Disturb in the settings. Will my initial carrier phone number show (my personal number) when I make or receive phone calls. Thank you for a great tutorial! I live outside of the U.S. and set up a Google Voice number while I was recently visiting family there. I am unable to get that number to send emails or forward calls to my phone outside of the country. It appears that I needed to set all that up while in the U.S. but I didn't realize that at the time. I can access my account via my laptop but when I try to use the Voicemail app on my iPhone it tells me that Google Voice is not available in my country! Is there a way to get the number that I registered in the U.S. to a temporary SIM I was using during my trip, and access the settings so that calls to that number will show up in my email or voicemail outside the U.S.?

Yes; Google isn't providing cellular service with Google Voice. But if you combine it with Google Fi, you could drop your existing cell plan. 🙂

I just had my google voice account shut off, they gave me a msg that i was using it incorrectly against their "rules". I had ony called 3 numbers, and then on the 4th number, this is what happened. @@sammie7641 I'm new to this but under settings... "Show my Google Voice number as caller ID when forwarding calls..." ON will show your 2nd number. OFF will show the caller's number... So that would differentiate the two lines. I haven't had someone call me yet to confirm my understanding. Good Luck!

Can you help me out. I’ve had GV for years. I have 2GV numbers which I use for business. I had to change my google password which wiped out all my voicemail messages, texts and call lists.
