This was fantastic! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this! I'm starting to sew dress shirts for my boyfriend since he's very tall and it's hard to find clothes that fit him well. I'm just awful at sewing button holes with my sewing machine 😓

Why would I want to bother with hand-stitched buttonholes? Because I'm too lazy to learn my mom's machine! :D Thanks, using the tape and pin to gauge the hole size was handy. One hole down, five to go! P.S: Subscribed!

Thank you. I recently got a Hawaiian style shirt that buttons up to the chest, but not to the neck. I wanted to add one more button to it so I could wear it in more formal situations like work. I'm a single guy and don't have a sewing machine so this was just what I needed.

Thanks for doing this video. I am watching from Australia. I did a button hold for men's shorts this week using a Janome machine; it did not work well, I unpicked and tried again. Now I want to repair and hand sew so it looks a bit better. I will watch this again if I need to do button holes from scratch.

I love this. I purchased some sweater knit fabrics and will be making some baby/children sweaters. I was somewhat apprehensive using a regular button hole maker on my sewing machine with this bulky fabric. I think I will try doing it by hand. Do you suggest I still use interfacing in the area where the button holes will be going when hand sewing these button holes? Becky

Many thanks for this. I have just made a skirt and because the waistband is quite thick my sewing machine just can't cope with the thickness. So this video is so helpful and I am going to give this a go :)

That would probably be easiest to achieve by doing button holes with a sewing machine. We have another tutorial for that too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-trBJqB96QK8.html

I appreciate the attempt, but I have some issues. The only visible thread was the gimp thread, so I couldn't see what you were doing. That was frustrating by itself, especially since you specifically said you picked a different color for visibility and thus already understood that visibility would be a problem. But even more frustrating was that the individual stitches were named not explained, and since I couldn't see the demonstration, I couldn't figure it out through context what I was supposed to be doing. Granted, now I know that a "buttonhole stitch," a "whip stitch, "and a "tag stitch" exist, so I can look those up individually now. But that leaves me watching three tutorials just to understand what could have been explained in one video.

Hi, Thanks for your video. As the purpose of your video states, and as the purpose of what you were supposed to show i.e. how to do a buttonhole stitch and since the actual stitching technique used is more important than all the other aspects, it is a shame that, that was the aspect which you fully failed to show in the detail it needed to be. On analysis let us examine the following: a) making a buttonhole--irrelevant (as the title of your video is ...create ""hand-stitched"".... not create buttonhole...) especially where a buttonhole already exists and only needs stitching. b) types of thread -- irrelevant because that is up to the choice of the owner of the fabric and their choice of the final colour- of- thread- look / end product of the stitching. c)the video was dancing about, making it difficult for the eye to follow but worst of all, was that you failed to show in slow motion how you were looping the thread over the needle before drawing the needle up to close the stitch. What a shame that you spent all that time to not achieve what your video said" how to CREATE a hand-stitched buttonhole.

@@gill8779 Hi Gill thank you for your response. I get the impression that you are upset?angry? vexed? taken offence at my comments, regarding the video in question. Please let me assure you that I meant no offence to the presenter of that video, nor any other viewer of that video and most certainly not you, in any manner at all. I do not know you, so how nor why would I wish to offend you? which is why I am wondering why you seem to have a quarrel with me. The way I see it is that I took an analytical view of the video and offered feedback to help the presenter to see the video from the perspective of other viewers. That is all there is to this simple matter. Please note that the presenter did not object nor wanted to know if I was for ""real"" nor asked about my location "" on the spectrum "". I do not use vernacular nor employ slang expressions, as they are proven to belong to a certain type of persons who belong to that type of language. This means that I am not sure what you are struggling to ask when you ask if I am for ""real"". I do not understand why you would ask that question when it is plain and evidently factual that since I did write the feedback notes it is proof enough that I am real. I know that if I existed in another plain of existence I would be unable to be real to write. So, yes I am real. As a gesture of goodwill I feel concerned about your ability to differentiate between real and unreal. If I can help you to clear this point please feel free to ask. Next is another (vernacular )"" spectrum"". Again you create confusion with this term. Please can you explain what spectrum you are referring to, and in what context you do so. As a friendly gesture perhaps you may be better off using proper language instead of vernacular. Such practices do define a person's social station, do you not agree? As was once said " life should be a regular effort to better oneself "" As someone who would like to help out with any language improvements you may need please do not hesitate to ask for my help. That is what friends are supposed to do for each other. Many best wishes to you my friend, stay Covid-19 safe.
