Great tips! My daughter says her favorite color is rainbow 😂 so rainbow stripes are our neutral that match everything else in her wardrobe. 🌈

Love this!!! Started out winter w a capsule wardrobe. But grandparents love to buy her clothes. We moved 450miles away and I dont let them buy her toys anymore except birthday and cmas, so a slightly larger wardrobe than I would like is a fair trade. My daughter is 5, and hates plain tops! So we do mostly black leggings, let her pick a pr of colorful ones, and then a couple pr of jeans. Then we let her pick all her tops. This seems to be working well for us right now. She loves all her clothes and wears them all, which in the past when she had a huge wardrobe definitely was not the case! Thank you for all your tips on minimizing kids clothes! It has helped us so much!!

@MyMumMakes
@MyMumMakes 4 года назад
@@ariannapflederer I would say that thrifting is still more cost effective than sewing it yourself, but sewing it yourself is still more cost effective than buying brand new from ethical companies (as I know you do too). I thrift clothes for them first and then sew pieces to fill in the gaps in their wardrobe. My oldest, Elijah, loves yellow but there is never yellow to thrift so I make him lots of yellow clothes. I buy fabric on special or buy big adult items to use the material from so it can be cost effective that way. I'd love you to stop by my channel (I'm very new to RU-vid) but I share my sewing projects over there or on instagram @mymummakes.marie

It's does save.. I only buy thrifted or very discounted clothes.. and 9 time or of ten I can room over this.. My kids have 3 uniforms for the year only!! For me I have to keep it sole cause of space and the amount of ppl in the home!! Thank u for this video by the way :)

Oh my..i just counted my kids’ clothes. They have about 20 jackets & sweaters, 40 tops, & 30 pants each! I barely bought any. Most are pass-me-downs and gifts from friends. 😣 I need to try to get rid off like half. Hopefullymy life will be much less stressful.

This is wonderful, Arianna! I love the rundown, explaining # of clothing pieces so clearly. Some days my kids can go through 3-4 outfits a day though 🤪 Especially through potty training! And YES for their individuality! It’s amazing how many times a favourite shirt can be worn compared to those they don’t care for!

i was very curious as to how you approach this. i do laundry every single day but my kids have around 8 tops and bottoms at all times. there have been holidays when it piled up so thats why i make sure we have extra. we can go with five outfits each and have at times but i like to have variety just because i love fashion lol. one thing i did wrong was i got my oldest all pink and black clothes and my youngest all purple and gray clothes and then when i tried to pass down clothing that my oldest outgrew nothing matched!! i have learned from that.

Interesting to see what works for other families! When I put clothes away from the older girls, for ren - I capsule it right then and there. I have two wardrobes to pair down since rev and aerie are the same size though. So I downsize it to one capsule for when ren is older. Because it was a capsule already, everything matches and is capsuled perfectly for Ren when she will fit it 🙂

Oh, my son, 21 month,alteady has favorite clothes. I kind of capsuled since he was born. I sew a lot and combine with some mostly neutral hand-me-downs. My daughter has more clothes now, because we are getting more additional hand-me-downs. Unfortunately this way your kids really wear down clothes. The smallest sizes can be reused, but when they grow more slowly... for my little one I will need some new clothes. But
@ariannapflederer
@ariannapflederer 4 года назад
I want to learn to sew some of my kids clothes, it’s on my bucket list! 😃 The only clothes that get worn out and can not be reused for 2+ years old is pants (from knee holes) from our experience. All other clothes we have been able to hold on to, to pass down to our youngest! We shop almost all used for our older girls too, but I try to stick to nicer long lasting brands like Hanna Anderson (lots on thread up and our local consignment stores). But, even if you had to buy a brand new wardrobe for each child, you’re only buying what you need. You would inevitably have a few pieces you can still pass on to the next. A traditional wardrobe that you can pass down entirely would equal the same amount of pieces purchased for a “new” minimalist wardrobe for the younger sibling 🙂 So in the end you end up spending the same or less based on number of pieces total when you use capsules. For us, capsuling is more about simplifying the stress of getting dressed and laundry, not so much money saving! But, we definitely still have saved money on our youngest versus before we were minimal with our oldest!

@@ariannapflederer Our Onesies (is that the word in english? In Germany you call dem bodies) broke because of our cloth diapers, not all, but some. A few were beyond repair ^^° But I am also content with our small wardrobe. And sometimes you want to sew new things for the second or the season does not fit anyway for the size (I have a july and a february child). I spend almost nothing and buy at second Hand Shops as well. Mostly I wish for sewing fabrics for birthdays etc. Shoes are the only child clothes I purchase new.
@ariannapflederer
@ariannapflederer 4 года назад
That’s amazing! I would love to learn to sew well enough to do the same for my girls some day. So cool that your kids get to wear a lot of pieces that you yourself make!

The hardest thing for me with a capsule is that I have the best thrift stores in my area and I can get mini boden and jcrew clothes etc. for kids for .25 cents. So how do I say NO to so many lovely items??
@ariannapflederer
@ariannapflederer 4 года назад
You don’t go to the store unless you actually need those items 😉 and, try to think about leaving those clothes for others who actually need them. When you purchase them, you are taking away the chance for someone who really has a need for clothes to buy them.

I wonder how a capsule wardrobe will work when all the kids are teenagers 😂
@ariannapflederer
@ariannapflederer 4 года назад
I have thought about that, but it will be the same probably! Except they curate it! When kids grow up to not be overly focused on consumerism, the hope is that things like feeling like they need a million pieces of clothes won’t exist. But if we could afford it, I would love to let them curate new capsules every other season if they wanted to switch it up! It would be a fun thing to do!
