Regret a synth? How is that possible. Man I Do a synth per year and It’s beautiful stuff every time. It’s fun learning each one. No regrets in learning something new ever

Nice vid! Many say that Minilogue xd has simple modulation options but you did not even use the sequencer which can be used to create 4 parameter movements by step. That is huge when creating evolving pads.
@ArcAudios77
@ArcAudios77 5 лет назад
Exactly, 4 Parameter Modulations Per Step can really evolve and reconfigure a sound unrecognisable from the original.
@HotStrange
@HotStrange 5 лет назад
Yep. The motion sequencing, 1 LFO with a very unique implementation, 2 EGs, 3 simultaneous effects, plus the digital engine with 9 of its own separate parameters and that’s before you even account for all the user oscillators and effects. Also you can choose 2 from 29 parameters to assign to the joystick to add even more modulation options. This will be a very versatile machine.

Perhaps it’s my speakers, but this is the second XD video I’ve seen where the raw saw wave sounds really harsh, like the digital saw waves on the Korg DW8000 and the Ensonic ESQ1. Will have to try one in a store to see if this is just an artifact of RU-vid or my speakers.

I have a Roland jd xi, and if they would have put all the knobs that is on the front of this thing, it would be just as good or probably greater. That's my only problem, plus not having a mute button for each instrument itself, just the part, but I still love the jd xi, and overtime, my sounds are getting way more fuller and better. The thing that makes this korg monilogue so great is the fact that it has almost every button that you tweak your sound with on the front, and much easier and quicker to shape and mold to it's best.
@samueldavies8461
@samueldavies8461 2 года назад
The JD xi was my first synth, and the Minilogue XD my second. They're very complimentary. You'll learn synthesis a lot quicker with the XD. Hot tip - when using the vocoder on the JDxi the analogue channel doesn't work, but it still sends midi. So you can use that channel to sequence the XD

Im dealing with such a live hate Relationship with my minilogue xd. Mostly it falls short in character, filter, modulation possibilities and on board dsp effects. Iv been trying to love it for over a year. I do like it but I just can't seem to really connect with it which makes me sad and gives me buyers remorse.

Thanks for sharing. btw, in the first part you talk about saw wave. But you move the VCO octave switch ? Looks (and sounds) more like a square wave?

I agree. It has taken me a year of playing to realize I just don't like the effects. None of them. They either seem barely there or way too much. I use a 20 year old boss se 70 effects rack that sounds a hundred times better.

20 minutes of tweaking and you still missed that the filter drive is on which makes any setting a blast in your face.
@goldphinga
@goldphinga 3 года назад
Filter drive is switched on deliberately at 8:09. It wasn’t missed at all but was a deliberate part of the sound design which you can see by the way drive was switched in and out to compare the difference between driven and not. Also the drive effect sounds great so nice to leave it on for grit.

Why the module is more expensive than the entire synth is beyond me. Normally it is the other way around, modules, because lack keyboards are relatively cheaper than the actual synths.

Why, the A4 is more powerful but does not the digital wave forms
@russianvoodoo
@russianvoodoo 5 лет назад
@@matthewspring2496 I don't like the way it sounds, i don't like menu diving for every single thing, i don't like that you can't change knobs sensitivity, I don't like all this function+something to do something. It is powerful, but it killed me every time with it's workflow.
@matthewspring2496
@matthewspring2496 5 лет назад
@@russianvoodoo I know what you mean , but I use mine with the overbridge vst plugin which makes creating sounds easier. Not great for deep bass but good for leads pads atmosphere
@russianvoodoo
@russianvoodoo 5 лет назад
@@matthewspring2496 I've tried it with overbridge, but it still wasn't that good. You still have to switch pages and so on. I found that even working with Synth One from Audiokit on iPad gives me more pleasure just because of the way how you can customize it. Also scales, arp sequencer. Probably it was just not for me.
