Thanks Ian I really appreciate the feedback. I realize I must do more of the Build From Scratch in future videos. This one was not so complex so it was a bit easier, but the more complex ones would probably be separated over multiple weeks. Many people seem to agree with you, so your feedback is super helpful. Thanks so much.

Could hug you right now if I could :) In an amazing tut you have answered a gazillion of questions which were bugging me. It's awesome to have a project commonly needed by perhaps millions of people, explained fluently, coherently, in an easy to follow language and step by step manner. This is the kind of course i would enrol in. Thank you very much for your tutorial.

Hi Randy, Great instructional video. I added the following line .Range("E5").Activate into the Sub Cont_New section as I found it easier when adding a new customer to save the user having to click on the yellow field. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but I found it particularly useful from a data entry viewpoint. Keep up the great work, I've learnt lots from your videos. Thanks, Tony, Australia

So Randy.. this video is excellent.. and I much prefer walking through the building process with you step by step vs. only interrogating an already built solution. While it may take longer to create and or view the video, I think the learning is elevated by seeing and experiencing the construction live.. including mistakes.. which we all make. I find that I can pause and replay the passages that need emphasis. All in all, the take away is much more valuable and engaging than just being an audience to an explanation of an existing end product. I highly encourage more of this type of tutorial. Also, I'd like to salute you for being so generous and sharing your unbelievable and impressive EXCEL skills. Getting an insight into your techniques and creative solutions is invaluable. Thank you and Thumbs up!

Thanks so much Wayne. My first few videos were like this, then I kinda got away from it to try to create more complex applications. But based on the high views of this video, I really must return to this style of teaching, in some instances, since I believe it is easier to learn. It's a fine balance between people who think "yeah i know these steps already" to those who are thinking "oh wait, how did he get to that step?" I plan to release some comprehensive courses in the near future that get deep into the training and feature of large applications such as Reports Dashboards, Accounting, Scheduling, etc. Thanks so much for your extremely valuable feedback.

Hi Randy.. thanks and understood. I use the RU-vid playback speed to go faster or slower through sections that I feel I know more or less well. Even for something where I think I know the steps, I find that I learn something anyway by watching how a third party approaches it. I get that some might be impatient about that.. can't satisfy everyone. I look forward to your courses. If offered for a fee, I hope you host them on something like Udemy. I've taken a few paid courses there and like the interface and overall environment. If offered for free, well.. even better for all of us consumers out here. EXCEL is like a gold mine.. the deeper you dig, the more value you get. Thanks again for your generosity with the free tutorials.. much appreciated and I'll definitely consider your paid courses in the future, if that is how they are offered. Thumbs up!
@krn14242

@Wayne, I agree totally, couldn't have said it better myself. The learning is seeing it come together step by step. It is much easier to follow along then trying to check after completion all the code and how it all interacts.
@ExcelForFreelancers

Hi Wayne, thanks so much for your response. That helps me determine how to approach new training so I can better serve people. The courses will be comprehensive 15 - to 20 hours and I will host them on my own website (www.ExcelForFreelancers.com ), however it will be very similar to the Udemy format. I will make sure to set them at a very fair price, and to include a ton of value. Thanks again for your valuable feedback :)

Thanks for the great tutorial! Learned very much. I would like to ask if a placeholder frame (rectangle) for the picture in the sheet itself would make it easier to load the specific size of the picture and set the desired location rather than in the macro
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 5 лет назад
HI thank you for your question Xavier. I don't think a frame would help however you would just want to determine the maximum width and height of a picture, then use those max values to set the picture height or width depending up which is greater, and maintaining the aspect ration.

Great tutorial, thanks for all the hard work. I had a question though. If you were adding loads of new contacts, and tabbing between fields, how could you make it so that after adding the email field for each new customer, then the next 'tab' would highlight the 'add new contact' button so you can just press 'enter' on the keyboard instead of having to use the mouse?

One minor thing to remind people about: If you're going to have "Delete Record" delete an entire row, be sure all data mapping, and all variables in columns A & B get stored above the actual area where the records reside. Otherwise, that information might accidentally disappear; especially if those rows & columns are hidden.
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 3 года назад
HI and thanks so much. Within databases, I use row 1 for the data mapping, but yes you should be careful if you delete rows or columns, data mapping must be updated.

You can use a search using Index/Match based on user entered details (I have a search in the scheduling section of my Employee Manager on this channel in which you can see a sample) You can assign a delete button to delete the selected or contact row. I also have samples of this in the Employee Manager series as well. I hope this helps. Should you have any additional questions, please join our Excel For Freelancers Facebook Group in which we have thousands of Excel experts who can guide and help you with your Excel Questions. I was sceptical this VBA program will work on older Excel 2007. I follow and key in the code as you show. And in the process doing a little bit code modification to suit me. Wow, I am speechless, all the codes works on older Excel 2007. You guys are really fantastic. Thanks a lot. I was wondering before how to use the methods and objects in the VBA. You guys utilise and shows how to put it to use all the methods and objects. Will be learning other things later from your other videos.. Thanks again for making all these wonderful videos.

Hi Danny, thanks so much for your comment. Excellent video. This was really helpful. If I wanted to duplicate this worksheet and have the add, delete, save, cancel buttons work on another worksheet independently of the original worksheet, how would I modify the module code for this? instead of "With Sheet1" what would I need to change this to?
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 5 лет назад
Hi Anthony, thats a great question. My most recent training covers just that Part 1 and Part 2 of the Employee Manager (where the actual data is on a different sheet) covers data mapping when the data is on a different sheet. Part 2 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lba5z5RlzxI.html Covers 1 part of the data mapping, and Part 3 (out tomorrow) will cover the 2nd half of that. I do suggest you watch from the beginning in where I start from a blank worksheet here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iyr9WIyxlJc.html Thanks very much.

This is a really walk-through. I added an additional msg box line to the "delete contact" sub, to "double check" that you indeed want to make a deletion. I'm thinking of how to add something similar to the editing feature... you wouldn't want an accidental keystroke to unknowingly allow you to edit a contact.
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 4 года назад
Hi and thanks for the comment. If I were to turn this into a distributable application I would add protection to the table below so that users were unable to edit any of the table items, and only edited and updated by VBA. I hope this helps and thanks very much for your suggestion.

Hello! Thank you very much for your great work!!!!! I have one question, i could not fınd an answer for that.... I want the table with contacts showed below the buttones to be locked.. I tried to few alternatives, but i assume bcs there is a code for the worksheet (1st one in your video) for selecting cells it does not allow to protect/unprotect the table. I would really appreciate your help. Or maybe you can tell me in which of your video i can find it?
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 4 года назад
Hello Olga, thank you for your comments. You can protect the sheet and then make sure that Edit Objects in the protection pop-up is not selected. This will keep the buttons locked. If you use VBA to protect, you can add in xlUserInterfaceOnly in the code. This will allow VBA to make changes to protected cells, but not allow users to make changes to those same cells. I hope this helps. Hi, very useful video! Do you foresee any issues if the data is in an Excel table? I believe the table will add value, particularly when I have to summarize it with a Pivot...
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 5 лет назад
Hi Fabio, thanks very much for your question. Excel Tables are more limited in functionality however if you were to separate the data, you could then use it in any format. (meaning if you have one sheet of data) you can then bring it into a pivot table, or in a form like the one in the video. I hope this helps. I only have a few suggestions for you: 1- Whenever you refer to some involved steps, put a link to a separate video (or text file) that describes how to perform that step in more detail. That way you save time in the current video. 2- Why not label the different ranges and use those labels in the formulas and macros?
