When I started down this path of learning “card tricks” I didn’t realize there was so much more to learn and experience from these magicians than the “tricks”. Alex is a prime example of the value we can gain if we take the time to listen to his words of wisdom.

Paul Gertner does something he calls "dream storming". He goes to sleep while thinking about a problem, trick, or routine and lets his subconscious work on it while he's sleeping. Since I've started doing this, I've created three effects (soon to market I hope 😎) and I've filled notebooks with routine patter and jokes.

So with the performing arts moving online and evolving with the world wide pandemic, Do you still plan to do your magic in social environments or do you have a timeline of when you would feel comfortable doing so again? Just wondering how you plan to adapt and if you have advice on this subject for others.

(Question) Alex do u feel like over the years people have lost there appreciation of Magic, know that it is skill and it doesn't leave as strong an impact as it did in the past. For example you perform an effect and get a great reaction, everyone freaking out then later on in the night your magic is never mentioned again. Don't know if you ever find this?

Quick tip ,they're not lying when they say the best stuff is in the books. Although the books are older most of the stuff in there is more original than anything online. When you read a magic book you are reading something not many people have even seen. :)

I use a voice notes app for magic ideas I get. You can talk more than write and allows you to really let the ideas flow instead of being slowed down by writing.

For coin, see how to do coin magic or Eric Chien coin ( which is a little harder, but I started with it) cards, there are many resources and starts you can find

not so much for me but maybe modifying moves like top shot.. i noticed some younger viewers cant get pinky around i suggested using ring or middle finger... and tips for people with big knuckles aka huge windows on hands.. i use a leather ring on middle finger to hide biggest gaps that sort of thing.. love your vids man.

i personally feel like that some tricks that have a bit of failure in them about which we know but the spectator thinks that we messed up but instead we added that extra thing , so i feel like that is way more surprising for the spectator and exciting because they feel like okay he messed up but there comes the surprise element and boom !!!! do you feel he same way ?

Just about all my routines rely on the sucker punch. Mainly because when I started out they all went wrong! However I found it really works so I write them into my routines now. Nothing worse than a slick magician where everything works smoothly. When he messes up he's lost all his credibility and dies a performers death.

I was once performing the routine that David Blane performed on the, Tonight show. Where David takes ten cards out of the deck and keeps on increasing them. So, I was performing it and at the end of the effect the spectator said, "you have a lot of practice and you can just add cards when ever you like and you have got fast hands". Does that mean they got the idea how I did the effect? How can I perform so that the spectator won't call me out like this.

tbh i hate when ppl say u need fast hands to do sleight of hand bcz most of the time its not even true. I actually did that routine and i screwed up one time where they saw me place the cards so i dont think they know how u did it :) unless they said that they saw u place the cards

They say you've got fast hands because they think they missed something. The great masters would say the slower you do it the more convincing it is.

Practice more. Perform more. Shaking hands shows anxiety from not being confident in your magic. The only way to be confident is to practice, to perfect the technical aspect of the trick and perform for several spectators, to perfect the sociological and mental aspect of the trick. This also answers your second question

Ever since, this lockdown issue, I have just been performing for my family and friends, but as of now we can go out but, not in pubs or a place where a lot of people gather. So, I suggest perform for family and friends(that's what we can do).

@@sukhjandu911 I am locked down in Thailand. I used to perform in Night Markets and terraced beer gardens. I had a residency at the Bayoke Tower, Bangkok years ago as house magician. Thats closed now. I was teaching English for a while to suppliment my income and performed magic for the students. I am desperate for an audience. I did 1 show at the Guest House for 2 people (its empty) and so is Khao San Road, normaly a bustling hub for back packers. I need to find a country where I can perform. My visa expires next week.

@@sukhjandu911 Yes thats just part of it. My magic show is stranded in Cambodia and I haven't been able to go back and get it since 26th March when lockdown started. I had to order cards, coins and and gimmicks from China and have them shipped.
