Thank you!! I'm slightly colourblind and I'm rubbish at choosing colours so this is a lifesaver (I'm a fashion student and trying to get to graduation without any of my tutors realising I'm colourblind) all your videos are so helpful and my drawing's come on a lot since my friend recommended your channel
I have the same problem; I’m slightly colorblind (red-green deficient) and it does show when I’m choosing colors for paintings haha! For me, it’s as if there is a very slight sepia lens over my eyes so sometimes red and greens are really hard for me to differentiate. My yellows would turn green or my seemingly blacks will actually be blue! Usually digital programs help with it though
@@zoehongteaches I don't have red-green colourblindness (I can't remember the exact name) but I get colours close to each other mixed up like blues and purples / greys and greens / yellows and whites. Whenever I go fabric shopping with my mum (who's also colourblind) we're both there like 'why didn't we bring someone else? why do we do this every time??'
@@nadeshiko10s I find it way harder to work digitally! I had colourblind settings switched on for my browser but I kept accidentally ordering bright orange tops that looked like rust on my screen
I would tell instructors about the problem. They may have advice about tools or techniques you can use to overcome the problem. At very least, they will realize you are not just an idiot if something is really weird ! One of my grandsons has trouble with some colors. He had so much trouble in kindergarden, with the coloring pages that had color swatchs and words, as keys to completeing pictures. One day, at home, he became totally hysterical when his younger sister had chocolate drool all over her chin and neck. He thought she was bleeding, I thought he was joking. When I didn't "save" her fast enough, call 911, even though she was laughing, he became so hysterical I called his mother to leave work early. We brought them to our saint of a pediatrician, who assured the boy and gave him a tranquilizer. (He was that freaked) A visit and testing with specialist, showed his color difficulty. We taught him to read color labels on crayons and he excelled with the color pages. His teachers are now aware of the problem. Optometry team showed us color filters that helped him see "correct" colors - but being a boy, he isn't that interested right now.
Ms. Zoe! How wonderful, this is like a new universe for me. Just a few years ago everything looked great to me colowise. Then I discovered something called Color Me Beautiful. It was fascinating to me!! Now, thanks to your videos I am learning so much that I had not even an idea. You and your wonderful knowledge have made my hospital stay more bearable. Thank you, thank you. I am your grateful fan!❤ 🌺🤗🌺
I am sewing for myself, and I need to wear black. However, now that I've seen your video(s), I am glad that I should add about 5 more colors to my clothing for this season. I've learned so much, thank you Zoe Hong. These videos have cleared up a huge question mark on my face and in my mind about choosing fabrics, making color choices, and focus on which colors and why.
There is actually an app that gives you the analog, complementary, etc etc of a photo. The name is Real Colors is for free. But if y o u pay I think is like $3 once and it give you all the different options of color stories
Planning color selection from a favorite painting is just the key I needed for my illustrations. Art history study pays off again, wow, thanks. Off to check on the Vermeer.
A very warm Greetings from Egypt I really love you, love your passion love the authenticity you are talking with, and the value you added to the fashion designers seekers I am one of them, stay always blessed I am a big fan watching for several years. ❤❤
Zoeeee.... Amazingly presented the whole thing....ur videos are evergreen....very well understood the balancing of colours in a colour board...tysm ❤️❤️❤️
This is so helpful! Thank you!!! Indeed, a further discussion for the customer profile and how you can pull this information from jobs that do not give you a clear picture of their customer or they aim to expand to a new customer which maybe the brand itself is not certain about (?!). Thanks again!
Loved all of it, found all of it interesting. Especially interested in the idea that a starting point for a colour story could be a work of art your customer enjoy.
Omg this video came while I was thinking of trying to figure out where to start with a collection I want to do for kicks and I was totally thinking about colors.
Really great and informative, especially the design-seeds.com tip. Zoe, I had my Masters review at SCAD - Atlanta, and the professors were blown away by my drawings, which I learned a lot from you! My illustrations set the tone up front that I was talented (they thought ,at least) and cause them to establish a high level of respect from me. I passed all parts of my review. Thanks! I would love to share some of my work with you, if possible.
Thanks queen Zoe I wanted to ask if you can make a special video on Costumer profile like I see how you pretend your costumer I have problems with that
Loved this video!! I am designing a handbag collection and I had such a hard time picking colors I liked and also that made a collection. So I am going to put these tips to good use. If there is any other tip, I would deeply appreciate it! Thank you so much!!!
I love color stories thx for sharing your Fashion Info I wish I had the resources to print my own color fabrics at times its so hard to find a specific color you want for your project
One more question, how do you draw the line between being innovative and going costumey?? I'm trying to make exciting designs with being extra but making it wearable without being boring. 🤔😥
Hi Zoe, I like your work and learnt so much! Quick question though, must my colour story come strictly from the images from my mood board? especially if almost all sourced images are black and white?
never wanted this video to end , in india usually designers get their piece of fabric dyed according to customers needs , its cheap n just takes couple of minutes actually.,
Hey Zoe..I am not a fashion design student but recently I decided to go ahead on an idea I have had for years to start a clothing line. Once I decided I looked around and was OVERWHELMED! Can you please give me some much appreciated advice?? I found your channel and have watching to gain knowledge and motivation. Thanks in advance .
Thank you so much dear Zoe, this was really really helpful like always! I just want to design a collection and this was exactly on time! Just for the first time I noticed the voice of video is a bit flawed.. (like distorted in some parts and too low in some.) if possible please check it. Thank you. Love you and your channel so muuuch ♥️💖
Hi Zoe ! Good Morning and Thanks so much ! xxx Love Jennie Did you know a lot of people are so outraged at Pantone's choice of color they are making a new vid about bleached coral ) ?
I know people are mad at Pantone but I think that anger is misplaced. They should direct their anger at the big companies and industries that are actually damaging coral. "Coral" has been a term used to describe bright reddish orange for a long, long time. Pantone didn't make up a new term.
I'd love to see basics available in each chroma, so that every piece is available in at least one hue, a shade, a tone, and a tint. That way, whichever looks best on you is there. I'd also love to see individual outfits that are committed to a chroma without mixing them. Please designers, I'm bored of dark colors in fall and winter. Try to use some happy colors. Thanks.
May I ask you where your business in located? Are you in N.Y.C.? May I also ask where you went to fashion school? I can't thank you enough for your excellent teaching and videos. They are exactly what I need! I took your online class a few months ago and I felt it was a worthwhile investment. Rock on!
Thanks again for such a good video. My question is about lighting. I got one fancy lightbulb (after limited research) in order to see colors more accurately. What do you use to make sure you're seeing the true colors?
Would you recommend putting these in the tech pack, with flat lays, if you're sending garments off to be sewn for you? Have you already done a video on outsourcing your sewing (I can't sew but was advised if I can design, have it made for me)
You don't put the whole color palette in your tech pack. If you produce a shirt available in 4 colors, you would put those 4 colors in your tech pack. Let's say you do pink, blue, red, and white. Then you'll have the colors in your tech pack, you'll note which fabric for each including color codes from your fabric supplier and notes on what color button goes on the red one, what color button goes on the blue one etc etc. And yes, you can find sample sewers and production sewing factories.
Hey, I really enjoy watching your videos. I did find it kind of distracting that the volume was at different levels through the video though. I had to keep adjusting my volume :/
@@zoehongteaches Heyyy I'm watching your videos right now! I took a day off work to watch them lol I'm trying to create a portfolio to submit for FIT. And I feel very intimidated. I'm getting old too lol I'm turning 29 this month. I never went to fashion school but I always wanted to. I never got to and when I decided to I got pregnant at 21. So now I'm trying again! Thank you so much for making these videos!! People can't ever learn this much valuable content without having to pay like $300. 😩 This information gives those with no money a chance to catch up to those privileged who can afford these resources.
Hi, I have started working on my first collection project in college, one thing I was confused about was that do we have to strictly the color trends provided by wgsn or we can take up colors as we like which might have been in previous year's trends?
Your voice is so good! I love the way you draw please one drawing ✍️ video please... I will be waiting for your reply...I liked this video.... I love your channel and videos 👍❤️✍️🙄😍😘🎉
