Hi Kay!! "Good style takes courage." I love this quote and will add it to my style journal! This is so true. It's easy to keep old and unflattering style habits. Better to be noticed for all the RIGHT reasons! Have a wonderful day!!
Wow! I just watched this, and I love your idea of creating good looks by using just one noticeable item. The shoes, jewelry, belt etc. I watch these videos to refresh my wardrobe for the day. Thank you!
I started belting my pants last summer after watching one of your videos. It has made such a difference!! It gives me a more polished and “finished” look. I thought I had to be skinny to tuck my shirt and wear a belt, but you don’t. It looks great, especially with a third layer. I used to wear my shirts untucked. I now realize it shortened my legs, added extra volume where I didn’t needed it and made me look frumpy! Thanks so much for your styling tips! ❤️
You’ve made me realize the importance of accessories! Earrings, necklace, bracelet or a belt pulls even the simplest outfits together. This past (COVID) year has had me dressing down. Thinking positive for better times ahead 🤞
Good Morning Kay! Perfect timing! I am in the process of packing for a 4 day get-a-way to Traverse City, MI with my husband and I can use your tips today so I don't overpack! Loved all of your outfits today!! You are always an inspiration!
Hahaha! Well I just know I have had some readers who have tried belting, felt awkward and swore it off immediately. But it really does take some getting used to.
Great video again! Appreciate the advice and how to pull together things that are already in closet. I started tucking and belting again after many years of longer tops and tighter bottoms - takes some getting used to but I do love it. It also makes me aware of my waistline and reminds me not to eat too many chips🤓 . I remember years ago when overalls were considered stylish and my friends and I realized we were adding to our waistlines due in part to wearing overalls so often. Funny how styles can influence weight gain/ loss.
Boy, you sure were describing me with the fear of tucking in and belting....lol. I actually pulled out some old belts and was surprised they still fit, albeit on different holes! Now to muster the courage to wear them to work! 😉
Thanks for this video. I love basic separates and I agree having a variety of footwear is crucial. This is timely as we look forward to traveling again. You look gorgeous in the pink blouse in today’s video, definitely is your color. Thanks, Kay.
I know others have said it, but a belt makes such a difference, I'm slowly tucking and belting, trying to gain confidence in that area. I have a denim skirt I was about to toss, I tucked a t shirt into it and put on a belt, Hello new outfit! Amazing, and I see that it is necessary/helpful to have belts in different colors.
Good for you! 🙌🏻 I think we just really got away from tucking and belting for a while and it makes going back to it feel strange. But it helps so much.
Love outfits 3 and 4 . Great video. I need a white blazer. I've been looking for one I like for 2 years. Can't seem to find it. I either dislike the material or cut of the jacket. I will keep looking. You look terrific in yours. The last outfit with black pants was lovely. Thanks for a great video.
My best friend and I had girl time today. We had pedicures at the nicest salon, Vertex in Blaine, MN. We know about COLD weather! But our feet did not freeze and they look gorgeous! We are ready for Mother's Day! Thank you for all your wonderful, helpful information and for the motivation!
I liked all of the outfits other than the first one. While barrel pants may be the new in thing, there are more flattering silhouettes. I would also choose a shorter jacket. Tim Gund talks about silhouette, proportion, and fit, which I find to be helpful guidelines.
Yes, last yr I began working on my wardrobe. Retired my scrubs which I'd wear nearly everywhere because they were so comfortable and tops have pockets...love pockets.🤗 Also packed away my country clothing ie demin long dresses. Still working on wt problem but am beginning to shape up but being short & have a disability, I'll never look chic as you but can deal with it. Thanks for putting out some advice I can find useable for me.
I really liked all the outfits you demonstrated today, especially the jeans with the pink t-shirt and white blazer. I haven't worn a shirt tucked in and belted in years. I, too, have a fear of my "belly area" showing and try to wear more loose fitting shirts. But, I think I might give it a try. I've recently rediscovered my love for blazers. That type of outfit would be perfect for our casual Friday work days. I've learned so much from watching your videos and reading your blogs. Thank you.
Kate I love your enthusiasm about style and probably 9 out of 10 times I think you're on point. However I didn't like the pants it isn't a good silhouette on most everyone but on you it look great I would not even put them in my wardrobe but to those of you who are going to try it best of luck
Thank you for mentioning that we might not feel comfortable with tucking in our shirts and belting them. I did that the other day and took it off. I will give it another try. :)
"Good style takes courage", haha I love that. It sure does take courage to wear the belted front tuck but I will persist until I feel comfortable doing it. I love the linen outfit, so classic and cool for summer. Lots of great outfits. I'm not a fan of the barrel pants, I don't think the silhouette if very flattering for anyone.
After seeing the third outfit, with the linen blazer. I have a white linen blazer in my closet. I could make an outfit almost just like that. Maybe not the same color tee. But I have straight leg jeans. Thanks for this video. I now know I have one cute outfit in my closet. I can probably make a bunch of outfits with the linen blazer and jeans and a tee, I can make a lot of outfits. Great video. This has been a big help to me.
Loved the linen outfit. So pulled together. I have the blouse and I am waiting on the pants so I can create this look. Loved your little dance in the outfit too! Ha Ha. Also like the jeans and white linen blazer. I have this blazer also and have done this look. Love the belt and tuck in look on these outfits. Also the olive green pants. Do not care for the barrel pants. I would not wear these personally. Love the pink on you also. Thanks for your tips.
Hahaha! I know the barrel pants are not for everyone. I personally love them. But we all need to wear what makes us feel our best. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks Sherry.
Aw, t’s over all ready? I really enjoyed that. It is amazing why we struggle to get dressed when all we really need is a few basics and some great shoes. That list would make a great vacation wardrobe. I love the retro sneakers.
Another great video, Kay. You continue to open my mind to new ways with my wardrobe and I appreciate the pep talk on the belt issue. After watching some of your videos, I edited my dusty belt collection and have added a few new ones. I never would have thought to tuck in my shirt at age 63. Last week I tried it and it wasn't as bad as I thought :). I especially love your outfit with the jeans and pink tee shirt. Very pretty. Also LOVE your hair cut. Absolutely beautiful on you!
Thanks so much Kim. Good for you on the belts! I mean when we think about it we used to belt and then we stopped. But we forgot how it’s supposed to feel I think.
Thanks for showing us some great new silhouettes for Spring and Summer. I'm realizing that I'm really in need of some new pants and a pair of jeans. About a month ago I started tucking in my tops and wearing a belt. I hadn't done that in a very long time. You're right, Kay, at first I did feel quite strange, but I love it now. Next up: I'm going to purchase the Nordgreen watch. I bought one several years ago. Absolutely adore it! Can't wait to order the Unika watch. I've been hearing that skinny pants are OUT now. I have several pairs of skinny jeans that I'm thinking about discarding. What do you advise? Actually, I've worn skinny pants/jeans probably for 10+ years and am quite tired of them. It's refreshing to see straight leg pants with high waists IN again. The barrel pants would definitely be a bit of a stretch style-wise for me, but I'm going to at least try on a pair and see what I think.
More great tips Kay! I really like the jeans with the white jacket.....simple, yet the jacket takes the outfit up a notch. I am a lover of watches and this one looks so nice. I know we have our phones to tell the time so much these days but a watch just adds that additional piece of jewelry to a wrist. Blessings,
Hi Kay. Great video. I have been experimenting with the front tuck and don't know what to do with the back of my shirts/t's. It bunches, looks too long, puffs. Can you show us how to manage that please? Thanks!
Those pants look like MC Hammer pants from the 90’s 😂. Love the looks. Never thought about wearing linen. I love the linen white jacket. Thank you for the looks. You always look so put together. What I’ve learned from you is that it takes planning to do so!
So glad you brought up the tucking of the shirt and belt issue. I LOVE that look. I think it looks so polished. I wear a size small petite and I just feel that I can not pull off that look. I will keep trying. Thanks.
Terri here. Your are perfect for this! Just remember to wear an accessory to pull the eye downward. A v-neck, leave the top few buttons undone on a shirt, a long scarf, long necklace, a jacket. Roll your sleeves. Be bold! We petites must speak out! (I’m 68...took me many years to get this in my head. I love being “edgy”...you will, too!)
Thank you Kay for sharing your advice and encouragement. I really enjoy your videos. I have an artsy, funky style. I try to mix in multicultural accents like colorful paper bead necklaces from Africa, embroidered shoes from China, beadwork from the Ukraine etc. I try to support groups that provide jobs for women in third world countries. Have you ever checked out groups like noonday collection? I think that would add a fun and charitable component to your channel and style. Blessings, Cynthia
Great video. You presented my style today. I’ll be 80 years old this year & loved the outfits. Although, my short body shape does not work with the tucked-in look, but sure do like it. I guess I go for a little more comfort. Thanks for your tips.
I am from Pakistan. 46 years old. Can you please do a couple of blogs on stylish Easter dressing for mid forties and above ladies. I would truly appreciate your effort. Love you ❤️
I am the opposite. I always tuck my shirts and tops in my pants or shorts not liking to leave them out. I am starting to try the half tuck which l am liking.
I am 5’8” as you are. I have a difficult time finding pants that are long enough (my height is from long legs😊) and that are a slimmer fit for my thinner legs. Do you have any suggestions?
You look great. You have great style. I appreciate all your work to bring simple styling into the light however tube pants- modern or otherwise, do not do many figures justice. I suppose, as with many new styles there is an adjustment period-for me. Other, not tight, but skimming straight cuts can be more flattering. Just say-in. Love W.
Well this isn’t meant to be a travel capsule or anything. I did mention that simple separates work well for traveling but I didn’t necessarily mean the linen pants. Now the linen blend pants from Everlane actually probably would travel well. They don’t wrinkle much at all.
Sorry Kay. I love you 💕 and really trust your opinion but those barrel pants just look frumpy to me. Pretty sure on my height frame 5’3”, I would look like a barrel. 😩
I understand why you say it's important to add some modern silhouettes to our wardrobes. However, I think we also need to keep in mind our height, weight, length of our legs, Etc., because these pants would not look good on me since I am petite and have short legs. They would make me look heavy. I believe that this modern silhouette would not work for everyone. Also, I know a lot of influencers encourage the wearing of sneakers, or trainers, as they're sometimes called. I actually think that this detracts from an outfit, especially for women who are 40 plus. I put them in the same category as ripped jeans. I think they are two things that we age out of. Just my opinion. Thank you for your videos!
One other thing I would add to the list of things that I believe we age out of after age 40 plus, would be jeans with frayed bottoms. This, along with white sneakers with any outfit and ripped or distressed jeans. I would also add pants that are too long and slouchy (which some influences are showing on their RU-vid videos). I just think it looks sloppy.
I have never worn heels or pumps with jeans, could wear flats, but just felt for me the heels were too dressy for jeans. Interesting for me to see you wear that look.
Because I absolutely love them. They’re comfortable, modern and, I think, fun. And fashion should be fun. But it’s quite okay with me if some people don’t care for them. However “yuck” is a little offensive and harsh. 😌
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms yuck is for me not you!💜 If u saw me in those pants u wud think yuck lol. I'm ur age but shorter and my legs are thick already!😝 in Christian love only.
That is a rude comment. I purchased it from a very fashion forward, contemporary retailer, so it most certainly is modern. And to call something dumpy is just plain rude.
I love all your styles, except those barrel pants, especially in the color brown. I am sorry but, they make you look short, round and frumpy, hence the style name “barrel”. Otherwise you look gorgeous
Hahaha! Well no problem. You don’t have to like them. But I’m 5’8” so I don’t think the pants are going to make me look short 😉. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. 🥰
