I love this technique. I just took my Grandson to Disneyland and he loved the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and this cover will be perfect for a pirate album. I can't wait to make it. Thank you.
Very cool tutorial, you make it look so easy to do. My favorite is the one with gold shimmer. So yummy and a wonderful jumping off project. Mahalo for sharing your techniques.
Thank you Gayle!!!!! You always give us such great tips and ideas!!! You also make it fun and looks easy!! I can't wait to get back into making journals and give this a try!!! TFS📒💕😊🐚gracie
Great Tutorial Gayle ....... will be trying this for my nest round of Envelope Journals............it looks great .... really like the Pewter look with the Sparkly Mod Podge. thought this would look great for a Steampunk look. Thank you for Sharing.have subscribed so i can see some more of you Vids..
Sandi Letterman you can totally do it! Your creativity will lead you to all sorts of ideas for embellishing. The "leather look". Is just a really nice neutral place to start. Have fun creating!! ❤️
I've saved a bunch of craft paper to do this, great tutorial, Gayle. Thanks for sharing. And you're going to be busy making all those journals up now! Debbie :)
swtpeapati thank you, Patti! I'm glad you're here! Yes, really a pretty straight forward process to get a pretty cool look to your covers. I like to make a bunch in advance then I just have to decorate and off I go! Thanks so much for subscribing, watching and commenting! ❤️
You're welcome ... I made a cover up following your tutorial, it's turned out not to bad.... And I didn't waste a heap of my Vintage Photo Stain like some tutorials out there, that's a bonus.. :)
Debbie Baker thank you so much, Debbie! I'm so glad to hear that the instructions were understandable! I always worry that I've left something out! Thanks so much for your kind comment! ❤️
Thanks for sharing your tips, the wax paper tip on the glue jar, I will be trying . Your covers are beautiful. You can also use paper sacks, I use the ones Walmart has in the freezer section to put your cold stuff in until you get home or have a bit of light stuff packed in paper sacks at the store. It's a little bit thicker paper but it's free and environmentally helpful. : ) God Bless.
Lottie Faith Thanks, Lottie! Great tip about the Walmart sacks! The craft store where I got the sacks is now closed. 😢. So I needed a new source! Thank you! ❤️
At our Wal-Mart in Louisiana, they have a roll of masking paper in the paint dept. that is just like the paper your sack is made of. I think I paid about $4 for the roll. It works great.
Loved this video and plan to try it out. Don’t know if you have tried Sheena Douglass faux leather which I have found very effective, will let you know how it goes xx tfs
Where did you find the shimmer mod podge Gayle? That’s a new wrinkle I like. Wonder if a shimmer powder mixed into the regular one would work!? I do have Inca gold. Thanks Gayle hugs. Maggie. ❤️🥰🇨🇦❤️
Thank you! I'm going to try it tomorrow with the kraft paper that Amazon uses in its packages. I do have a question about the mod podge layers. Did you say to use it to attach the kraft paper to the envelope, then both before and after applying the antiquing medium?
Lisa Gonzales great question! I did use Mod Podge to adhere the Kraft paper to the envelope. Then you have two options: 1) Mod Podge over the top then stain (if I do this, I don't Mod Podge over the stain. JUst let the stain dry.) or 2). Stain first then then Mod Podge. (I did this with the Glimmer Mod Podge cover). I prefer number one because you use a lot less stain. Hope that helps clarify. Let me know if it doesn't!! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Oh by the way is that a pile of coffee stained glassine bags in the background? Would you mind letting me know how you dry them, is it in the oven or air dried?
Hi Gayle ~ you've given me so many ideas with your video. What size is the paper bag that you use to crumple for the cover, and do you by chance have a name brand for it? Thanks!!
Hi Michelle! The bag was a big one. I'm sorry I don't know much about it other than it was Kraft paper. So any Kraft paper will do. Recently I bought some masking paper in the paint section atHome Depot. It is like a lightweight Kraft paper. It's super cheap and will work great for covers like these. I've used a black paper...worked great and tissue paper works great with this technique as well. If you can crumple it and straighten it out, it will work. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching! ❤️
Hi Michelle! I just put a coat of matte Mod Podge over the top. Seals it just great. For a softer almost fabric feel, I use Golden Matte Medium. The cover itself dictates which medium I use. I hope that helps, Michelle! Happy creating! ❤️
I just use a three hole pamphlet stitch in all my journals. Quick and easy! I don't have a tutorial but there are a bunch out there if you search on pamphlet stitch. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️
Hi, I didn't quite catch the medium you used on top - called Apple Butter Brown. Got the name colour but not the product. Would you mind telling me what it was? Ta, Rosie
Hi Rosie! Yes, it's Folkart brand Antiquing Medium. I've been most successful finding it at Hobby Lobby. Thanks for watching and hope you'll give it a go! ❤️
Lorie Duff I do book folding and all I did was mode podge the book cover and put brown tissue paper ( recycled from gifts :0) ) on it leaving and forming the creases ( it slides easily around because it’s wet) and any little tear you add a small torn piece by dabbing it with modge podge to cover it ... you can add pieces here and there and it darkens giving it depth. Let it dry and give it another go with modge podge . No painting required and it looks amazing and it hardens beautifully .... I wish I could post a pic.
