In this video we're doing a wood decking for a Lowe 1436 Jon Boat. Wood is still a great option for creating the perfect casting deck. It's economical and can last a long time if done properly. One of the biggest advantages is that it's an economical way to go. Wood costs allot less than aluminum. So if you are doing a full jon boat to bass boat conversion or simply wanting to upgrade your boat decking, this is the video you want to watch. Enjoy the video!!!

The content on this channel is number one!!! Thanks for your time and effort in puting out the content. I am excited to see the finished product. Hopefully when you sell it there might be a video of the person taking it out and fishing from it. Thanks again BBFDMV. Tight Lines!!!

I totally understand why you used wood. I started a project a year ago and had most of the boat framed and sheeted with aluminum. I had no idea what my plans where for the rear of the boat till I purchased a new motor with jack plate. Decided to make a rear deck and had enough aluminum framing to do so. Went to purchase a 4x8 sheet of aluminum and was blown away with the price. I bought a 4x8x1/2" thick sheet of finished plywood for 50 bucks. Tbh I really like the wood for sheeting! Anyways keep up the good work!

Yea man. Aluminum sheeting is awesome but the price is off the chart right now. I recently spoke to my metal shops guys and they're saying buy now cause it's going to keep going up. SMH.

Hey, I'm in the middle of building my jon boat. You are absolutely right prices are outrageous. In your opinion do you think going with wood decking is a good idea or would you go with aluminum. Also fir the framing you would recommend 1/16 or 1/8 angle? I really enjoy your videos eh, keep up the great job. Cheerz

I know this video is old and I probably missed it, but what thickness plywood did you use?
@dsaavedra628

I'm currently planning on decking my 1436, planning to use 1/16" aluminum angle for the framing doubling up as necessary like you did. Am I seeing it correctly that you did not install any upright supports under the front deck? Is the doubled up 1/16" angle strong enough to support the front deck with no flex? I'm planning to use PVC sheet for the deck material, not plywood. 1/2" or 3/4" deck thickness, haven't decided yet.

What type of wood did u use and what size is it a 6x8?

What type of plywood did you use? I know a lot a guys opt for exterior grade plywood and then resin it but i can't seem to find any that's not pressure treated. I know pressure treated wood will eat the aluminum away but if i resin it i don't think it would cause any problems?

Surprised you didn't move the trolling mtr ctrls forward and provide a seat post behind it???
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
@BassBrothersFishingDMV Год назад
The further forward you install the foot tray the more unstable it can be to use on a boat this narrow.

Do you use regular stainless steel self tapping screws to attach the wood? If so how long do they hold for i know steel and aluminum don't mix well
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
@BassBrothersFishingDMV 9 месяцев назад
Yes stainless steel screws. They've held up well. I haven't experienced any reaction between the two metals.

@@BassBrothersFishingDMV sounds good! I used 1/16 angle. Will those screws strip with it being thinner or should i just double up the angle in spots im Screwing into to have 1/8 to maybe hold better?
