Love these sort of videos where it’s more chat/discussion based and you ask us to think about our whys. Jake, I achieved financially freedom at 28 and was able to retire. Your videos helped me see that there wasn’t ONE FIRE. I am now doing Barista Fire. I wasn’t working for a few months and now I work part time. Will I work full time again one day? Sure. Buts it’s nice to know I don’t HAVE to. You helped me along this journey so much and I still enjoy listening to your videos. Best of Wishes, Jake.

Such a thought-provoking question! The dynamic nature of the market, especially during periods of prolonged elevated interest rates, challenges investors to reassess their strategies. The idea of favoring state tax-free fixed-rate options with ~6% returns over historically lower-yielding alternatives like SCHD is a strategic move. The consideration of adjusting the investment style by potentially reducing dividend holdings and incorporating treasuries into the portfolio reflects a nuanced approach. It's a compelling discussion on navigating the evolving financial landscape. Your insights prompt careful consideration for investors looking to optimize their portfolios in changing interest rate environments. Thanks for sparking this crucial conversation!

Hi Jake! Curious about your thoughts on your preferred investment style during periods of prolonged elevated interest rates. ~6% fixed rate on short-medium durations (state tax free) is better than what SCHD and the like are paying and have paid historically. Given that the treasuries offer zero growth, would you alter your investment style? Maybe reduce your dividend holdings and add treasuries to your portfolio?
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 7 месяцев назад
Well the answer is not a one size fits all. If you plan to retire today and have capital in cash then ya sure short term treasuries or bonds would be a great option to consider in a high interest rate environment. But if you plan to retire further in the future, I would personally much prefer buying quality dividend growth investments at lower prices. The market works in cycles. I personally prefer not to time the market/cycle and focus on my goals based on my why and my time horizon.

One more thing. If you were in software sales, you at least had to be making over 200k, and at 600k dividends in 30 years with inflation would be like 200k today. So you have seen that kinda of money. Know what I mean?
@DividendGrowthInvesting

Yeah at the peak in my career, I was making a very good salary. Well it comes down to how inflation plays out over the next 30 years. @DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 7 месяцев назад
I personally would look for a conservative growth. In this case staying away from individual stocks and focus on index funds/ETFs that match your goals and risk tolerance. If you want growth, focus on high quality growth ETFs (I like VUG, VGT, SPYG for example) and the same would apply for if you wanted yield or just overall returns (e.g. VTI, VOO). I think having a balance of funds you plan to hold long term and others you have in case you need to sell to fund a big purchase. Focus on quality and stay flexible.

@DividendGrowthInvesting

Depends on the business and in some cases this happens in some sectors more than others. For example in telecom, we've seen that be the case with AT&T. You want to make sure the company is growing their EPS so they can grow their dividend. Slow or even negative EPS growth can hinder a company's ability to grow its dividend.

The only thing I'll say is that... Maybe, Just maybe. We don't have to work for money. What if instead, We make a million friends and ask each for a dollar then invest each dollar. Sure it would take time, but I think if we pick a hotspot for tourism or something, we could probably meet more than a million people in just a year and hopefully maybe some are kinder than others and give more than a dollar. Food for thought!

The best way I know to make money is by creating value. Maybe instead of asking for money you could do something that puts a smile on someone’s face or helps someone in some way. The more value you bring, the more you will get rewarded. And the reward can look different for every person out there
