Hello all. And thank you for watching.
If you enjoy my content and want to support my channel you can buy me a coffee at the following link'.
www.buymeacoffee.com/mjmtas
(This link is also shared with our other RU-vid channel @MJMTas where we are doing up our run down property... when not crocheting 😁). Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me.
This is my version of a hooded poncho and is easy to make. Made with acrylic yarn. However can be made with any yarn.
To make this poncho you will need:
4 balls of the acrylic yarn (540m each ball)
5.5mm hook
Enjoy and Happy crocheting 💖
If you do make up this poncho, please share your photos. I'd love to see how it turned out.

Have been looking for a poncho pattern to make for myself and a few other female friends and family members. I came upon this one and I have found the one that I will be using. I love the look and the simplicity of it. The use of different colors will give each poncho its individuality. Your tutorial was extremely easy to follow and I am so glad I stumbled upon this pattern. Thank you so much.

Your channel seems amazing! I am making this right now and I'm only starting my back rows so I have a lot left. I don't have any light yarn so I used medium and so far it seems like a great blanket poncho to chill with at home. Hopefully I will find out how to make a pocket to make it extra good to wear at home when sick and needing a small pack of tissues. I will probably manage to mess my poncho up because I'm a beginner and honestly not the brightest but I'm so excited about it so far, thank you! RU-vid is amazing, an australian woman helping me, a swede, make anything wearable for the first time in my life.

I am falling in love with this poncho! But I hope you don't mind me giving some tips that helped me make it🙂. It took me 3 tries to finally master it, and that is because the last few times, I dropped a few stitches, and I am not too sure why. Half double crochets, an easy stitch, an easy stitch for many, but for this girl, I know how to do a HDC stitch, but I don't know what happened when I got to the hood part, and one side had less stitches than the other. So, this is what I did to make sure everything was even. Before I would start a new row, I would count 10 stitches in and place a stitch marker inside that 10th stitch. I would continue to do this until I reached the end. When I had 10 stitches left, that is when I knew I was right on track. Also, if you don't have this beautiful multi-colored yarn this sweet lady that did the video for this poncho, and you want to change yarn color. To keep my knots from coming undone, I added a dot of Aleene's clear fabric glue to them. Meaning, you would do the first step as if you were tying your shoe, then add the dot of glue, then tie it in a knot. None of my knots came out, and then when I did the boarder around the poncho, I knew that they were extra secured. PS, I used a 4-ply yarn since it's winter, but I am planning on making a summer one with the yarn that was used in this video. So, thank you so much sweet Lucky Platypus lady for sharing this pattern with us, and I hope you were ok with me sharing some tips that helped me be able to make this beautiful poncho🙂. Happy Holidays to you😊!

Great tip. Wish I had read this before starting. I found myself many stitches out at hood making time even though everything looked even. I have gone with the 40 stitches for the hood hole and divided the other sides by two,

The measurements should be the same but the number of stitches will be less. You will need to Google the conversion as I have no idea in inches (I'm a metrics girl 🙂)

@luckyplatypus

Measure the length and width of your daughter and do the start chain to the width and the amount of rows to the length you measured. Keep double checking as you work up to make sure fits. Hope that makes sense.

I have another question… I’ve been working on my poncho but I’m not sure I got the measurements right (I did start with a chain of 120 but it seems far too wide and too short). Could you tell me the measurements of your finished poncho (length and especially width)? That would be so helpful! Thank you!

Love this and love when I come across an Aussie on here doing tutes...Q though...do us Aussies do a decent yarn at all, cause American yarn, delightful as it is, can be FO pricey. I buy online from Craft2U cause they tend to have a better range than spotlight.
@luckyplatypus
@luckyplatypus 8 месяцев назад
Thank you.❤️ Our decent yarns are way too expensive here on Aus. I only buy from spotlight and lincraft when on sale and I spin my own yarn (which I therefore get lovely yarn if I do say so myself😊) Otherwise I buy from Hobium in Turkey as cheaper, nice range and free postage when you spend x amount.

I love your poncho and just bought mandala yarn. I was wondering why it’s important to crochet into the back of the loop? Why does it matter whether it’s the front or the back? Is this a special stitch? Would it look differently if using the front loop? I’ve only just started crocheting so I’m not experienced.
@luckyplatypus
@luckyplatypus Год назад
Hi there, glad you like the poncho 😁. The way you do your stitch will also affect the way it looks therefore it is important to follow the pattern and when it says front post you do it front post or back post you do a back post and it makes it go in or out. Same with going into the back of the loop which will create what we call rib stitch and the front of the loop will have a different opposite effect. Hope that makes sense. As I always say experiment, experiment, experiment and that's the way we learn😉. Have fun 🤩

Just discovered this tutorial. It's exactly what I need because my husband has always jokingly said he wants me to crochet a poncho (with a hood) every time we watch Emperor's New Groove with our daughter. (There's a crochet joke.) What stitch count would you recommend for starting a poncho for a man who is 6'2 ft and a size XXL?
@luckyplatypus
@luckyplatypus Год назад
I would suggest do a chain that measures from one of his arms, behind his neck and down the other arm. Then work as many rows to be as long as his body and the length he would like. Then repeat that length on the other side.☺️ Hope that helps and makes sense.

If you need it smaller width ways do less stitches across, or do more stitches across if you need wider. If you want longer do more rows down. If you want shorter do less rows. But remember to do the same amount of rows on either side (front and back). Take your width and length measurements and use that as a guide. Hope that helps.

I'm about halfway through the poncho at the moment. It's a great design! However, I'm going to be way short on the length. I'm using exactly the same yarn and a 5.5mm hook and I don't crochet tight, but I've done 67 rows and it's only down to my waist!! I'm gonna have to do probably 90(?) rows to get to thigh level.
