I’m not a beginner but also not and expert. I crochet blankets to put in care packages for people battling cancer. Basically lap blankets so I use baby blanket patterns, this was still to big so I scaled down some. Great video. I do love putting boarders in my blankets but just can’t decide what kind of boarder. Do you have any suggestions?

For people wondering about making different sized blanks I found it works to have even counts of 10 and then add 2 stiches to your foundation chain. For example is you want a smaller blanket it could be 72 foundation chains, if you wanted a larger blanket it could be 152. Is this correct Amanda?

I made the pattern a bit bigger ( I used either 130 or 140 chains I can't remember) and because of this I didn't end on the front post double crochet I just ended on the double crochet. Should I chain three and start on a double crochet the next time then, or start with the front post double crochet?

Amanda Luisa How many balls of yarn did you use for the couch blanket?
@karenbcz22
@karenbcz22 6 лет назад
Wow! Great vid! But 2 questions ... when you finish the starter chain, was the double crochet into the "4th" chain just an arbitrary number? You didn't say why you picked the 4th chain. Also, at the end of the FIRST row, you chained "3". Was that also an arbitrary #? I'm asking because my edges always look sloppy, are never even and the rows never have the same # of stitches. Nothing comes out "square" or rectangular.
@AmandaLuisaOfficial
@AmandaLuisaOfficial 6 лет назад
I picked the 4th chain because we are working in double crochet. As for the “ch 3” that is because when working in double crochet that ch 3 will count as your first stitch. It always depends on the author of the pattern

Why would you start with 2 DC(1 being the chain 3 you said counted as a DC and then next to it put another DC when the pattern is 1 DC and 2 fpdc?? I'm going crazy here!

I’m absolutely loving this tutorial and the blanket it makes! However, I do have a question. I’ve used nearly five balls of Bernat Blanket yarn (and the balls seem bigger than the Baby Blanket variety, too) and I’m still nowhere close to being finished. Am I doing something wrong? I watched the tutorial several times over to make sure I didn’t miss anything, but that much yarn doesn’t seem right.

@AmandaLuisaOfficial 5 лет назад

Amanda Luisa Yeah, I’ve done everything the same. This is my first time working with front post double crochets, so that likely has something to do with it. You mention its easily scalable but dont say the scale. Does the foundation chain need to be even or odd or a certain multiple of some number?
@AmandaLuisaOfficial
@AmandaLuisaOfficial 6 лет назад
Perpetual novice I actually mention it towards the end. The foundation chain needs to be a multiple of 2. If you know how tall you want it to be in inches you can divide that number by 2 and get how many rows you need.

I followed the pattern and it looks great just one issue, I chained 92 and started on the 4th one over and I’ve already gone through three balls of the bernat yarn. My blanket is way bigger than 44x44. It’s like 47 by 26 by the time I was done with 3 balls. Why did that happen when I chained the correct amount??

Geena D Did you use the exact same yarn and hook size?

@@geenad2377 everybody crochets a bit differently. If you are using the same yarn, hook size, and number of stitches per row, and still find that your blanket is using up more or less yarn than the pattern, then I'd guess that your stitches are a bit tighter or looser than Amanda's stitches. This isn't a bad thing necessarily. This is also the reason that many crochet patterns give a 'gauge'. Personally, I've never really been able to follow gauges in patterns, so I avoid them and make crocheted projects that don't require it. Don't worry too much about it. I'm sure whoever is going to be receiving your blanket will not notice at all :)

Okay so I think I’ve messed up somewhere. According to the video I should end my row 2 with 2 front post crochets. But I keep ending with a double crochet. I’ve gone back and redone the entire 2nd row 2 times now and I keep ending with a double crochet. What could I possibly be doing wrong??
@AmandaLuisaOfficial
@AmandaLuisaOfficial 6 лет назад
Cassey Brew No worries, if you’re not getting the exact one right it could be a number of things. Honestly I would just remember that you ended in a double crochet and then do the opposite stitch in the next row just like you have been. It could be from your foundation chain too.

I am having the same issue and have started over three times. I have counted and check-counted my foundation chain several times. I have even watched the video in slo-motion every time to make sure I am putting my hook in the correct chain every time. Something doesn’t add up.

I don't understand when they say repeat... Do I make another simple chain? Do I fpdc or double crochet first

After you lay your foundation row of 92, your next row goes by the pattern teo front post crochet, one double crochet. The next row goes two double crochet, one front post. FROM THERE your next row is two front post crochet, one double. Your next row will be two double crochet, one front post. It just keeps on going. Easy to follow but also really easy to flub!

I also rewatched her start the rows every time I started a row because it's very confusing. I think you always start with chain three, double crochet into the next stitch. Seriously rewatch her start the rows because that is where I messed up countless times.

Hello Can I make the blanket longer? Is there a certain number of chains that are needed, does it have to be odd or even or divisible by 2?
@AmandaLuisaOfficial
