I've seen people do that as well! I might try to do a cute narwal version as well as a video! Do you have Ravelry? I would love to see your finished project!
Knit Grit I’d love to see a pattern/video on the narwhal ❤️ Also yes I do, I just made one XD I’m not sure if you wanted the name but it’s artrunswild I posted it as one of my projects- I’m new to it so hopefully that’s how it works heh
My first one was this about a year ago. I didn't understand that you did a different thing most of the rows so I ended up with a flat thingy me bob 🤣. I'm trying again with this to see how far I've come.
Yesterday, I saw this video for the first time. I have made five now and know the instructions by heart. I have a problem. I will make number 6 now. His name will be Billy

i'm a total beginner, i only knew how to make a square and a circle and i tried this... im pleasantly surprised!! mine looks more like a turtle seal but its adorable, i got stuck and my thread kpt splitting but hey it ended up adorable, thank you soo much!!
the amount of math in this... im going rogue and just gonna go in circles and see where that takes me. also the magic circle way you made is so lovely i live for it THANK YOU 💜
I’m confused. For round two in the white, I got the correct number of stitches, but for some reason when I did my last decrease, I used one of the loops that I just single crocheted into…
@@gameregg-1006 honestly, I personally got so confused, I stopped counting altogether and just kept going in circles, increasing and decreasing when my heart felt like it.
I’ve tried to learn to crochet a few times and failed! I finally decided to try it again and came across your tutorial. I made this little guy so easily! He’s not perfect. It was great practice, and I think completing this as a first project is pretty good! Thank you! I subscribed to your channel to follow along with more videos!
Thank you! I'm so glad this tutorial worked for you and helped. Practice and consistency is honestly the most important aspect to crocheting, so just keep at it!
Hi, I started crocheting and watching videos but I never finished any projects until I watched your whale tutorial and I LOVED IT!!! I love how you say "try not to split your yarn" and your just so amazing. I love your channel.
I’m having trouble trying to make this I can’t exactly see what you’re doing and it’s confusing. I have the first steps down but then when you increase for the 3rd time I don’t really know whats going on
Have you tried looking at the written pattern on Ravelry? I have a chart on there which may visually show how the increases work there better. The main idea is that you want to increase 6 stitches each round, so each time you're adding an extra stitch between increases. So, Increase every stitch after placing 6 SC inside a ring, then every other to 18, and then every 3rd to 24 and so on and so forth. Does that help at all? I may end up doing an addendum to this video, due to how popular it was and this was before I created a nice set up where my hands don't go out of screen so much!
Knit Grit Yes this is quite helpful Thank you for explaining it you me. I have one that I was trying to make and I over did it and it’s my first time trying to crochet. It’s quite hard for me to get the stitches tight but I mean at least I’m learning. It took me a couple tries to learn what I was supposed to do but I’ve accomplished by rewatching your video over and over so thank you your videos really do help
On top of her awesome tutorials it has quite a bit of benefit to understand the stiches she is using. Libraries have alot of books on crocheting. Once i got a book and practiced the stiches, her tutorial went very smoothly!
Found my own knit set. Never bothered to use it when i got it. I was super bored and fount it and decided to do it. Im so in love! Was able to work on this for a couple of hours absolutely enjoying it. He/she came out sooo cute def will be making more😭
Just finished him, he was my first ever crochet project! Just started this week and gifted him to my mum as she was the one to get me started on crochet
Just finished him after 5 hours! Took about an hour before I figured out how to start making rounds and I was so nervous about messing up the whole time but I'm so happy how it turned out! Can't wait to amass an army of these!
I was determined to make a crochet strawberry cow I during this long weekend (3 days) bought all the stuff from hobby lobby came home and realized I didn’t know how to do a single stitch. I’m on my day one today and this tutorial was the first thing I’ve ever made except for bracelets. It turned out very well thank you so much. 🥰😊😂
this is the first thing i've ever crocheted, i'd never done anything to do with crocheting before and this tutorial was so nice and easy to follow along that I was able to make it with 0 experience. i absolutely love how it turned out. thank you for this!♥
Omg this took me about 2 hours ( I have been wanting to make this for a while and I learned amigurumi yesterday) and it turned out adorable 🥺 I named him wally 😌
Hi! I saw this video a few months back when I was learning to crochet and I tried to make it, but it just ended in a disaster. I decided to try and make it again and it turned out so good!
I have been desperate to make a crochet project that wasn't a blanket (recently learned to do a rose) as I can't follow a pattern at all. I just completed my first whale and you made it so very easy to do and fun. Thank you for helping make my first critter.
Ok so basically, I have made 2 amigurumi eggs and this is my first time trying a new type of ammigurumi!!!! Thanks so are great at explaining things that are easy for beginners. Thank u
This went great until the tail >.< After the tail (which ended up having one fin bigger than the other) I didn’t have a nice neat round any more. There were slip stitches everywhere & it made the 30 become 34! Then I must have flipped the wrong way around somewhere because the white ended up inside out. Again, not to bad, he has a ridged stomach now... haha!!! He’s definitely a derpy whale. I think I’ll give my first attempt to my friend’s cat. 😀 I’ll try following the pdf after your video. Thanks so much for this tutorial - they’re super cute!!!
Hi, this was the first crochet thing that I ever made. It helped me so much along the way. Now that I am making giant, complex things, I wanted to come and thank you for getting me started. This was an amazing video, and it truly changed my life. Thank you!😘
Highly recommend that you watch the video and look at the written pattern. Coming from a absolute beginner, I was able to learn how to read a pattern so now I can pick up any amigurumi pattern and I know what they are referring to.
I'm a beginner at chrochet and i haven't even learned all the stitches yet but i was able to make this into a mothers day gift on my first try! Thank you for making your videos so easy to learn and follow along with!!
I can't actually believe I was able to do this! I've been studying crochet on my own for a week I think, and I had just succeeded on my first magic circle the previous day, and yet I was able to do a whale on my own!
I managed to sit down and knock out this project in a bulky yarn in just a few hours. Thank you for the tutorial, I'll be checking out your updated one next!
I have two updates and I would definitely recommend the 2021 one! 😁 Doing this pattern with plushie bulk yarn is my favorite! I bought a faux fur yarn and made HUGE baby whales that look awesome, I need to post pics!
One of the bets tutorials ive found, and would definitely use again. My whale turned out a little small, but i think its because my hook was a size smaller than my yarn recommended, either way i love my little whale. Thank so much :)
I did a better version of this tutorial lol it’s under my uploads as the “2020” version, where I explain things a bit better! I’ve learned from my mistakes from this tutorial, lol!
THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING AND ISOLATING WHAT TO DO. I’m very new to crocheting and lots of videos just say, “loop the first loop” but... it isn’t the first loop you actually see, but a different first loop... yeah, it’s confusing. So I appreciate you and I REALLY appreciate this video.
Omg thank you for thissss! I am a beginner at crocheting and I was about to order a crotcheted whale for my car mirror and I didn’t want to spend the money. This is exactly the video, look, and tutorial I needed😁🐳
I love my whale so much! I tried this as my first ever amigurumi project and it turned out so good! (albeit super wonky) He is so cute! I named him crosspatch.
i picked up crochet during quarantine and on a 1am binge of cute animals that i could make i decided to make this. he came out great. his name is wally
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am going to make a bunch and tie them on a small bush in front of my house for people to see when they walk by... I think everyone could use a few cute crocheted whales in their life right now. :)
this was SO great to follow even for someone like me who has absolutely no idea how to crochet! taught me a few things and helped me make a really cute present for my girlfriend
THANK YOU! I have been trying to crochet for the longest. I found this video and knew I had to try. I finished this little guy and I am so happy. This is also my first project, so again, thank you very much.
I have been crochet for about one year but I was taught wrong. It was kind of difficult for me to get the magic ring but I managed. My whale looks too tall and kind of funky, but I just made my first amigurumi! Thank you!
omg.. i started making this same version of the magic ring years ago... i thought i was the only one since i figured it out on my own. it IS easier and more efficient. also, i form my stitches exactly the same way... i love your tutorial on this darling little whale... i think i may need to make at least a dozen... just for starters... edit... i count my stitches on increase rounds the same too !!! Great minds think alike ... clearly ... lol
i love your videos so much. i have not crocheted much in the past few years, but it was really easy to understand your video and get right back into crocheting. My grandma taught me to crochet when i was six and now i'm 13 and really glad she taught me.
When i started crochet 2 years ago this was the first thing i learnt and i absolutely loved doing it. When i make a gift for someone, this is usually it Edit: Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, i just made 3 of these as gifts for my grandparents
Mine turned out so cute! I used hot pink for the head and pastel yellow for the belly. She turned out amazing! It took me about 2-2 1/2 hours to complete but def worth it. It’s my second amigurumi project. My first was a small bee. Thanks so much for this tut. Xx
Great video! You made this skill much more understandable. Perhaps your camera angle was a bit off but it hardly matters, nor does it take away from how well you present this info. Really enjoyed this!!
@@KnitGrit Well it is true. I am trying to learn crochet and likely have a mild form of dyslexia. My daughter has full blown dyslexia and I appreciate and admire others who are out that, unafraid to mention the things about themselves others might consider to be a 'disability ' but I consider to be something that makes us not only unique but better .
It took me a minute to figure out what you meant by increase but I think I got it. My whale is super cute! A bit wonky because its my first one but i love him!
I was unsure of your crochet methods at first but I decided to try it the way you did it and I gotta say... you are right its A LOT better. I have done other Amigurumi before, this is the best one I have done because of your method and easy instructions. Thank you so much. I LOVE my little whale and look forward to making him the little shark and octopus buddies. I love them a lot. You are awesome.
Thank you so much for this video! This is my first amigurumi so to make sure I am doing everything right I have the the written instructions you linked open and following. I would have messed this up terribly if it weren't for your video.
Started with your amigurumi ball and moved onto this one not realizing it was the same channel. I recently started learning to crochet and I really enjoy your videos. I will admit that i get flustered because some times you demonstrate a step but your hands are outside of the camera view. Regardless, i really love your videos and appreciate it. Cant wait to see more of ur tutorials! :) P.S. I love my whale! I used buttons for eyes. Suuuper cute
I did a revamp of this video and since I started using my new camera I go off screen less! It’s hard to see when I was using the old one. 😭 I also have an updated version of this video on my channel! Thank you for the kind words and I hope you have a great weekend!
I made my very first crochet project making your whale. Mine is purple on top and an off white underneath. Its also a bit smaller then yours turned out but i think it being smaller gives it its own charm.
This was my first project, my little whale looks like someone stepped on her but I love her anyway 😆 I will make her a friend to test how much my stitches improved, I felt like they were getting better about halfway through
Knit Grit! This is so cute. This is actually my first amigurumi project on crocheting and I'm thankful it was made by you. Love watching your videos, you're so great at crotheting:)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! You made it so easy to follow and make, even for such a beginner like me ^^ I try to read the pattern and then check the video and see if I was right because I’m awful at reading patterns currently! :)
It's my first time crocheting, and this tutorial was so fun! I accidentally made it too oval shaped, but it ended up looking like a baby chicken coming out of it's shell (I used yellow and white), which looks really cute!
That’s awesome! I’m working on Baby Yoda and Krampus tutorials now! My computer charger just died so that has halted my progress, but after Christmas it should be in! :)
magic ring 6 inc all 1 inc 2 inc 3 inc 4 rounds all 30 fins: sc in the next stich front loop,ch 5, skip first two, dc, dc, slip stitch slip stitch into front loop of next stitch, chain 4, skip first one, dc, dc, slip stitch, then slip stitch back into the front loop. back loops, all 30. 3 dec, 2 dec, 1 dec, dec eyes 10 stitches apart, above the last row of blue. fins: 32:22
Ok so I literally just started crocheting yesterday and all I’ve made was a simple chain 😂 so I don’t think I should be trying this right now but I’ll give it a shot. Wish me luck that it doesn’t turn out in a horrible disaster! 😂😖
Oh my goodness! So easy and fun and instead of safety eyes I just took my darning needle and black yarn and made eyes. That way I know they are safe for my grands. But thank you! I love this little guy! I'll be making a lot more!
I also wonder if fabric paint would be safe enough for kiddos, as well. I have tried to find research on it but failed. The black yarn and darning needle for embroidery is a good idea, though! ❤️
@@KnitGrit yeah paint depending on which one can be bad. But there is a gel stain that world probably work and is perfectly OK. Is called Unicorn Spit! I love it! Use it in all sorts of things.
Oh my gosh you do your stitches the same as me!!!! everyone told me it wasn't doing it properly but I'm like the end results look good so I'm ok with that lol
I just recently became interested in Miniature Crochet Amigurumi. I have been crocheting for years making the usual baby blankets, purses, belts, Halloween costumes, hats, scarfs, etc. I watched your video and my Whale turned out pretty good. I used embroidery thread and added a blow hole with water, thought I would show you a pic of my newest addition to my Gang of Miniatures. Not sure how to upload a picture to my comment. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Keep on crocheting! - Jennine (Sacramento, CA.)
